"A praetorian state is one in which the military frequently intervenes in national politics and dominates the political system while *professional officers emerge as a ruling class* and play a leading role in the country’s institutions."

Ironically, Bhutto gave an idea to Ayub to appoint himself as a Field Marshal, so he remains head and shoulders above other "Generals". Ayub called it a "brilliant idea". And Ayub won a Rann of Kutch skirmish with India and secured a stalemate in '65 after starting Op Gibraltar.

Field Marshal Asim Munir. Sounds good. This one actually won a war. Congratulations.

"..how to place myself head and shoulders above..elevate his own rank from that of a General to that of a Field Marshal." History doesn't repeat itself, but it often rhymes.

Indian society, esp liberals has been so radicalized by hyper-nationalism that even the deaths of innocent women & children are met with indifference. Former Maharashtra I.G Mushrif, in "Who Killed Karkare?", attributes this to the control of Indian media by upper-caste elites.

I know Modi has made the majority of Indians Hindutva Zombies, but any Indian with critical thinking should ask their airforce why they are going to admit their losses after 3–4 days of the operation? Losing 4 expensive jets just to do *symbolic* strikes on Jihadi infrastructure?

Ayub, Yahya, Zia, Musharraf, Kiyani, and Bajwa tenures comprise more than four decades. Lost half of Pak, the remaining half is embroiled in active militancy & political turmoil. Baqi ki qasar Hafiz sb poori karain gay. Colonial force with all powers but without accountability.

Why do Pakistan's army chiefs harbor the delusion that their tenure is synonymous with national stability? Is it a mindset?
