How can I make my shell script pause before continuing?

You mean sleep? Or do you want to have something that waits for input before continuing? You can do that with a read call.

readis what I was looking for! Unfortunately, it's not present in my embedded system (using busybox).. :(Student– Student2011-03-14 20:56:36 +00:00Commented Mar 14, 2011 at 20:56 -
@Tom Brito:
readis a shell builtin; you won't find it in /bin. Does it really not work in your busybox shell? (it works in mine, but I guess maybe its possible to compile busybox w/o it)derobert– derobert2011-03-14 21:37:59 +00:00Commented Mar 14, 2011 at 21:37 -

He might also be looking for CTRL-Z, which pauses the current process.
