How do you find an AirTag on the web using iCloud.com's FindMyiPhone (not the app?)
-
iCloud 'Find My' page shows AirTag so it MAY now be possible. Although iCloud User Guide doesn't mention AirTag, but maybe they simply haven't updated it. AirTag uses bluetooth so it can't directly tell iCloud, however every iOS device checks for AirTags near it & relay its location (GPS coordinates from helper phones likely) to iCloud. Apple calls this the 'Find My network' as detailed on its main pagegregg– gregg2022-09-15 17:06:45 +00:00Commented Sep 15, 2022 at 17:06

AirTags can only be tracked with Find My app, either on an iPhone/iPad or Mac - but not on the web.
Instructions from Apple for locating and AirTag:
Open the Find My app, then tap the Items tab.
Choose the AirTag you want to locate in the Items list.

2Has this changed? Will they be adding it to iCloud eventually?Aaron_H– Aaron_H2022-03-06 19:16:23 +00:00Commented Mar 6, 2022 at 19:16

2It's true, but it's sooo annoying. Why is this not available in the browser?! Thanks Apple!user643011– user6430112024-01-14 22:47:42 +00:00Commented Jan 14, 2024 at 22:47

Have they ever given a reason for this? Or is it simply greed?Turkeyphant– Turkeyphant2025-10-01 23:43:04 +00:00Commented Oct 1 at 23:43

@Turkeyphant It is likely a result of the Find My network being semi-end-to-end encryptedEzekiel– Ezekiel2025-10-02 01:24:27 +00:00Commented Oct 2 at 1:24
You can't find it on the web using https://www.icloud.com/find.
It is only visible in the owner's iPhone via the Find My app. It works away from the owner's phone.
Basically, it updates its location every time the tag finds any iPhone around.

It's available on any of the owners iPhones, Macs or ipadsTurkeyphant– Turkeyphant2025-10-01 23:43:37 +00:00Commented Oct 1 at 23:43
If you want to DIY: You may be able to extract the data from a Mac.
macOS 10.x, 11 (Big Sur), 12 (Monterey) and 13 (Ventura) have all been found to have an unencrypted FindMy cache at $HOME/Library/Caches/com.apple.findmy.fmipcore/Items.data.
This data is observed in macOS on official Mac hardware or in a virtual OS container using Docker-OSX. The Docker approach is notoriously finicky, but could still be worth checking out if uptime isn't a big concern. You would need to host a frontend to display the data.
To see all your tags on a web map or get location via API, there's Airpinpoint, has a web view with a free tier for up to 32 AirTags and 400 location requests per month.

1yeah not sure why either. I work with this stuff every day and this is the current answer, and answers the question asked - if you want to see it on the web you need to use a service like AirPinpoint or scrape cache and self host a web frontendtejas bhakta– tejas bhakta2025-04-08 08:07:37 +00:00Commented Apr 8 at 8:07
As of iOS 18.2, you can now share a link to view your AirTag or other Find My-compatible tag in a browser to help other people find it, but you can only share them when they are missing. Sharing stops when you reunite with the item, after 7 days, or when you end it manually.

It doesn't have a built-in GPS signal sender, so it can only be used by your cell-phone App which means the range is under 15 meters.

2But you can find AirTags that are more than 15 metres away - so how does it do that? AiurTag uses any devices on the Find My network not just your iPhonemmmmmm– mmmmmm2021-05-07 19:39:24 +00:00Commented May 7, 2021 at 19:39

1Also AirTags don't have GPS in them. No way they could last for a year with a coin battery if they did. You can find the location when you're far away because every Apple Device that receives them will report their location when they see one.Chris– Chris2021-10-02 21:22:36 +00:00Commented Oct 2, 2021 at 21:22
