For several weeks, the FaceTime on my MacBook hasn't been working.

On calls, we can see each other and I can hear them, but they can't hear me. I've confirmed the settings for the microphone are good and have rebooted the computer, which is running macOS 15.5 (24F74). People can hear me on Zoom, Google Meet with the microphone I hope to use with FaceTime app.

What can I check to get this working?

  • Welcome to Ask Different. What steps or visual indication do you have to confirm that mic settings are good for FaceTime? Commented Jun 15 at 14:37
  • You mention "...the microphone I hope to use with FaceTime..." Can you not use the built-in microphone? if you open the Sound control panel to "Input" does the Mac show the other microphone when you plug it in. It would be helpful to add the version of macOS and the model of MacBook to your question. Commented Jun 15 at 14:51
  • @SteveChambers We don't know which microphone, and I edited in what might be the "latest" OS - shouldn't matter, though if it's not macOS 26 which is the latest and is at least Sequoia. Commented Jun 15 at 15:27
