Bob G. shared thisHotel sales teams currently spend about 70% of their time on non-revenue tasks. That's why I'm excited to announce that Trevor MacLean from the Event Temple team will be speaking at HSMAI's upcoming Commercial Strategy Conference in San Antonio. Trevor's going to share more about our "Hybrid Sales Workflow". It's a practical framework that assigns low-value admin (data entry, initial qualifiers) to AI, freeing humans to focus purely on negotiation and closing. This framework will help hoteliers like you move beyond AI hype to operational scalability. For commercial directors, the ROI is: • maximizing revenue per employee by fixing "Speed to Lead" issues • reducing staff turnover by eliminating burnout • providing a standardized automation blueprint that can be deployed portfolio-wide without increasing headcount Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/gMrKZk5E #hotelindustry #hoteltech #salesandcatering

Bob G. posted thisImagine if... Your hotel sales and catering system could: Help you win new business. And it could help organize your events and groups too. And it was easy to use and learn. And you didn't need 8 different tools for proposals, contracting, signature, payment, crm, etc. And it wasn't too expensive. And if you wanted unlimited users, you could do that. All connected to your PMS, if you needed. And they would update it constantly. Always making it better. Keeping up with the latest technology (yes, AI too...) Every day, week, month and year. Obsessively. At no extra charge to you. Wouldn't that be something...

Bob G. posted thisHotels have a lot of turnover. New staff members need to be able to get up and running fast - so they can do their job today. Your hotel systems need to reduce operational risk, not add to it. They don’t have time to learn those giant, confusing systems from the past. Your hotel needs a sales system that just works. Anything else means a loss of profit. Every decision adds up, and either hurts you or helps you.

Bob G. shared thisThe Event Temple team recently volunteered at the Salvation Army. One thing stuck with me. The sign at the front door read: "Unfortunately we currently have no more beds available tonight. Please come back at 1045pm just in case to see if any beds become available. No guarantees." Inside, the people were some of the nicest you could expect to meet. It was a reminder that each one of us could be an event or two away from needing help. Nobody there expected it to be them either. It was a pleasure to spend the day with my team volunteering. Thank you to Purposely for helping to line it up. And thank you to the The Salvation Army in Canada for running such an amazing organization. You are helping so many people and doing it in such a kind, thoughtful, efficient way.

Bob G. posted thisEvent Temple’s goal? The world’s best Hotel Sales And Catering Software. I don’t aspire to win other markets such as restaurants or museums, for example. I don’t aspire to building more products. I am solely aiming at being world class at this one thing, for this single market. Sales and Catering for hotels. With that single goal in mind, year after year, we are making significant progress. The most important part of this strategy is to protect the focus. This simple idea is what separates us.

Bob G. reacted on thisJust finished speaking on the Technology & AI panel at the Touching Dreams panel in partnership with our customer Dream Hotels & Resorts. There was real excitement about the adoption of AI to improve change management and technology adoption. What I enjoyed most was hearing and seeing real hotel use cases where teams are using Stayntouch's APIs and AI to build applications solving real operational challenges and drive more revenue for their hotels. Kudos to Chris Snyman for diving in head first to embrace and innovate using these new tools!Bob G. reacted on thisPanel Discussion 2, Technology in hospitality is no longer just about keeping up, it's about staying ahead. Facilitated by Samantha Williams, this insightful panel featuring Sarah Marron, Janine Louw, Jacob Messina, and Chris Snyman explored how technology, AI, and innovation are reshaping the future of hospitality. Some of the standout takeaways included: - Best-in-class vs all-in-one technology: Every hotel is unique. The future lies in connected ecosystems where specialised solutions integrate seamlessly to create the best guest experience. - The guest remains at the centre: Technology should never add complexity. It should create a frictionless, personalised journey that guests remember. -Change management is just as important as technology: Successful digital transformation isn't about implementing new systems—it's about helping people adopt them. - Don't just sell rooms, sell experiences: From spa treatments and dining to local activities and curated packages, ancillary revenue presents a significant opportunity to increase guest spend while creating more memorable stays. - AI is changing how guests discover hotels: If your property isn't visible in AI-driven recommendations, you're already missing potential bookings. Rich content, authentic reviews, compelling imagery, and an effortless booking journey are becoming essential. - Discovery earns attention. Trust secures the booking. Hotels that combine strong digital foundations with exceptional guest experiences will be the ones that thrive. One message echoed throughout the discussion: AI isn't replacing hospitality, it is enhancing it. The hotels that embrace innovation while maintaining authentic human connections will be best positioned for the future. A huge thank you to Samantha for expertly facilitating the conversation, and to Sarah, . Jacob Messina, and Chris Snyman for sharing practical insights, honest experiences, and a clear vision of where our industry is heading. #HospitalityIndustry #HospitalityTech #AI #GuestExperience #DigitalTransformation #Innovation #HospitalityLeadership #ThinkTank #FutureOfHospitality

Bob G. liked thisBob G. liked thisFor me, trust starts with integrity. It’s the quiet commitment to do what’s right, even when no one’s watching and I have found in my career (and life) that this is the same principle that makes technology adoption work. Whether we’re talking about predictability in IT delivery or AI/tech adoption generally, the throughline is always trust. 🛡️Trust between technology and the business 🤝Trust between leaders and their teams 🔗Trust between an organization and its own data This is the work I show up to do every day. My goal is always to help people and teams gain clarity and align on what is required to make technology not just possible, but trusted. Here's my take - when trust scales, adoption follows. Adoption means everyone is on board and the technology is making a real and measurable difference for each individual. When this happens, it's just magic. This is what I'm truly passionate about making a reality for those I work with. I may see it before they do, but once they feel it - there is no going back. #Integrity #Trust #AIAdoption #Leadership #PredictableDelivery

Bob G. reacted on thisBob G. reacted on thisHospitality is about giving more than expected. Last week, in Victoria….I saw a diner that understands this comment exceptionally well. Floyd's Diner understands this more than most. They have something on the menu called “The Mahoney.” Your only choice you can make, is breakfast or lunch. Then, the chef makes literally whatever he or she wants. Every single one so different. So, if you are a picky eater or have allergies, not the right menu item for you. Here is another thing that makes it fun, you can choose to pay the menu price, or flip a coin. You win the coin flip, it is free….you lose the coin flip, you pay double. My family each ordered a normal menu item, I….of course chose The Mahoney. It was fun to see it come out, and was actually extremely good. Poached eggs, raspberry syrup, French toast, rolled pancakes, waffles. I barely made a dent in it, but the fun of when it arrived…,and the touch of a gamble all made it worth it. Also, my kids thought maybe it is a joke with a double sided coin (it is not). They actually bring you three coins, and let you choose. All of the coins were normal Canadian coins. I did indeed win the coin flip, and even the table next to us got in on the fun and clapped when it happened. Win or lose on the coin flip, it would have been a great experience and fun. Floyd’s diner understands what hospitality really is, and took something as simple as breakfast and turned it into an experience. Would love to hear any ways you have seen hotels or restaurants do hospitality in unexpected ways.

Bob G. liked thisBob G. liked thisRainmaker Hospitality grew from 16 to 28 hotels without adding accounting staff. The constraint was not demand. It was the back office. ❌ Bank reconciliations happened manually once a month. ❌ Reporting lived in spreadsheets. ❌ Finance and operations worked from different systems, so each property added more coordination, more reconciliation, and more room for error. Rainmaker consolidated its PMS data, financial reporting, bank accounts, approvals, and portfolio dashboards into Hotel Investor Apps (HIA). The practical changes were straightforward: ✅ Bank transactions flowed into the accounting system automatically. ✅ Managers reviewed invoices and approvals from their phones. ✅ Leadership could see cash positions across the portfolio without waiting for month-end reporting. ⏰ The team cut reconciliation time by 50% and moved from monthly reconciliations to weekly ones. Books closed faster, and the portfolio grew by 75% without a larger accounting team. 🚀 Growth exposes every manual handoff in the back office. 💡 Before adding headcount, operators should identify which recurring tasks still depend on spreadsheets, delayed data, and people moving information between systems. Which back-office process would become the biggest constraint if your portfolio grew by 50%?

AI Startup Cohere Projects $200 Million Revenue Pace Ahead of New Funding Round: Cohere, a Canadian AI startup competing with OpenAI, is nearing a $200 million revenue run rate. They're preparing for a new funding round, which clearly signals strong investor interest. This growth highlights how demand for AI tech is expanding beyond the US market. It's interesting to see a Canadian company making such waves in a field often dominated by US giants. Perhaps this indicates a shift in where AI innovation and investment are headed. Cohere's progress also points to an increasingly competitive environment in AI development. I think it’s worth watching how this funding round unfolds and what it means for the wider AI ecosystem. It’s not often you see a startup from outside the usual hubs scaling so quickly. This milestone might suggest that the AI race is getting more global and diverse. Investors seem to be betting on more than just established names, which could shake things up. Overall, Cohere’s story is a reminder that AI’s future isn’t limited to one geography. It’s exciting, but also a bit unpredictable where this could lead next. We’ll see if others follow suit and how competition shapes the next phase of AI growth.

1,500 people. Supported by AI agents. I had to see the workflows myself to believe it. Most companies are still hiring people to do work that AI handles today. Hai N. from AGI Ventures Canada came on This New Way and walked me through how his team actually operates. They qualify inbound leads with agents. They write follow-ups. They generate SOWs. They support a community of 1,500+ people. What blew my mind - they're not a massive team. The agents are doing work that would normally take 10-15 more people. And Claude Code is at the center of it. Not just for developers. Non-technical people are using it too once they understand how context engineering works. Hai showed me what "go-to-market engineering" looks like in practice. Teams are shrinking SDR orgs without losing output. Skills, sub-agents, how to structure context so agents can actually execute. Real examples of AI filling out forms, responding in Discord, handling work most teams still do manually. You don't need to be technical to start using this stuff. But you do need to see what's possible. This episode is a good place to begin. Full episode on YouTube below 👇

Canada just made the biggest change to SR&ED in over a decade, and most founders haven't adjusted their numbers yet. Bill C-15 passed in March. Here's what changed: The expenditure limit for the enhanced 35% refundable credit doubled from $3M to $6M. That's up to $2.1M in refundable credits per year. Capital expenditures are eligible again, reversing the 2012 cut. Equipment bought for R&D now counts. And the CRA introduced a pre-claim approval process that cuts review timelines from roughly 180 days to 90. The catch: none of this money shows up automatically. If your 2026 claim is built on your 2024 assumptions, you're likely leaving six figures on the table. The consultants charging 15-30% contingency fees already know this. Their pitch decks got updated faster than most CFOs' forecasts. Worth re-running your R&D numbers before year-end planning locks in. Curious how many teams have actually done that since March. #SRED #CanadianStartups #RDTaxCredits #StartupFunding #Innovation

We just closed a $4,000 mobile app deal with a Canada-based founder. No hype. No buzzwords. No “AI-first” pitch. What made it work was time and clarity. Here’s what actually moved the deal forward 👇 1. We spent time explaining the tech (before selling anything) Not every founder is technical — and that’s okay. Instead of jumping into frameworks or architecture: - We took a few calls - Explained what each tech choice means in plain language - Clarified trade-offs (cost, speed, future scalability) Once the founder understood the why, decisions became easy. 2. Budget first. Tech second. Always. Before suggesting Flutter, backend choices, or infra: We aligned clearly on the $4,000 budget Then we asked: - What must exist in the MVP? - What can wait? - What will actually validate the idea? Only after that did we suggest the right tech for this budget, not the “ideal” tech for a fantasy roadmap. 3. We cut features without killing the vision The idea had more features than the budget allowed (very common). So we: - Reduced scope without reducing value - Focused only on user-critical flows - Designed it so Phase 2 wouldn’t require a rebuild That built trust fast. 4. MVP mindset over startup pressure The goal wasn’t scale on Day 1. The goal was clarity + validation. That shift alone saved weeks. Founder takeaway: If your MVP feels stuck, it’s rarely a development issue. It’s usually: - Unclear understanding of tech - Budget not guiding decisions - Or trying to build everything at once Curious — what’s harder for you right now? Understanding the tech, fixing the scope, or aligning budget?

The biggest fundraising mistake I see? Founders going public with a round before a single cheque is committed. I watch it happen constantly. A founder announces they're raising. LinkedIn post. Email blast. "We're opening our seed round." And then nothing happens for three months. Investors notice. Other founders notice. The longer a round stays open with no momentum, the harder it gets to close. People start asking questions you don't want to answer yet. Here's what I tell every founder before they go out. Do the pre-work first. Quietly. Secure your first one or two commitments before you announce anything. Even soft commits change the dynamic. When someone asks "who else is in?" you need an answer. Then when you go public, your round already has energy. People feel like they're joining something that's moving, not propping up something that's stalled. 💡 Create FOMO through a tight process. Not desperation through an open one. If you're raising in the next six months, start this prep now. The raise starts long before anyone sees a deck. Opening doors, Rupa PS: I'm running a fundraising masterclass on this topic, comment "DOORS" and we will send you the link to sign up. ♻️ Repost this to the founder in your life who needs to hear this before their next raise Follow Rupa Ganatra Popat for opening doors into the angel and VC world

"𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗽𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹." That phrase used to close deals. In 2025? It's a red flag. Canadian SaaS founders aren't hiring for potential anymore. They're hiring proof. 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗳𝘁? Investors are cautious. Budgets are tight. Every hire has to carry real weight from day one. Founders can't afford the ramp time. They can't afford the learning curve. They need someone who's already done the work outbound, cold calls, territory development, revenue generation. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀: Your narrative needs to shift from "I can do this" to "I've done this." That doesn't mean you hire the most experienced person. It means you hire someone with recent, relevant proof. They've shipped product in the last 12 months. They've closed deals in the last quarter. They've built a team, process, or system that's still working today. Not five years ago at a different company in a different market. Recently. Because the market has changed. The playbooks have changed. And what worked in 2021 doesn't work now. Founders who are still hiring for potential are getting burned. The ones who are hiring for proof are building teams that can actually execute. There's no room for passengers anymore. Is this too harsh, or just the reality? 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗱𝘀, 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗽𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹? 𝗪𝗲 𝗰𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗼'𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝗱𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸.
