Most headlines about Shopify’s earnings focused on revenue growth and GMV. The headlines focused on the stock reaction. The real story is the structural shift underneath it. Shopify is leaning hard into AI-driven commerce. Products discoverable and purchasable inside AI conversations. Checkout is happening without the traditional storefront flow. Commerce is moving from site UI to agent interface. That’s not a feature update. That’s a shift in control. If customers can search, compare, and buy inside a chatbot, why visit the brand’s storefront at all? When the AI becomes the interface, platforms lose their traditional control point. And brands lose something too: Direct influence over the moment of decision. This is where #loyalty becomes existential. If loyalty only resides within your app or site, and commerce shifts to AI agents, your “program” has just been disintermediated. The future isn’t loyalty tied to a channel. Shopify's getting so expensive. We've outgrown it.'   I hear this every few months. I've even watched brands try to leave and quietly come back. And I get it, On the P&L it's a chunky line: → Shopify Plus from $2,5K/month base. → Transaction fees. → App stack. → 0.25% Revenue-based fee that scales if you start doing over $1m a month. When you're growing fast, you look at that and think: 'We could build this ourselves for less.' 🤑 You can't. The thing most people miss: Shopify invoice is one line. But inside it's basically a team of engineers you don't have to hire: → HOSTING: Infinitely scalable. You don't need an FTE on standby in case something breaks at 2am on BFCM. → SECURITY: Hacks are getting more sophisticated every month. You really cannot put a price on this until you've had to. → ROADMAP: Shopify ships new features at a pace no in-house team can match. That's R&D you're not paying for. → YOUR SANITY: You don't have to think about any of the above. I spoke to a legacy 9 figure brand recently who was desperate to move to Shopify. The thing that broke them was It was taking forever to get subscriptions live on their bespoke system. 😅 It's 2026, subscriptions are something a Shopify brand would have launched in an afternoon. You don't realise what you take for granted until you don't have it. Shopify simplifies business to the point you now have 8 figure brands run by teams of 5. You get to focus on the things that actually move the business (product, CS, ops, advertising). Everything else is handled. We're in the renaissance of ecommerce. If you're scaling and things are working, optimise what you have. Don't rip out the foundation.

"𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗽𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹." That phrase used to close deals. In 2025? It's a red flag. Canadian SaaS founders aren't hiring for potential anymore. They're hiring proof. 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗳𝘁? Investors are cautious. Budgets are tight. Every hire has to carry real weight from day one. Founders can't afford the ramp time. They can't afford the learning curve. They need someone who's already done the work outbound, cold calls, territory development, revenue generation. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀: Your narrative needs to shift from "I can do this" to "I've done this." That doesn't mean you hire the most experienced person. It means you hire someone with recent, relevant proof. They've shipped product in the last 12 months. They've closed deals in the last quarter.
