Michael Katchen shared this+$17B of net deposits in Q2. $155B in assets. 3.6M Canadians now trust Wealthsimple with their financial lives. It's easy to look at numbers like these and focus on growth. What I'm most proud of is why they're happening. Every quarter, more Canadians decide they want a better financial experience. One that's simpler, lower cost, and actually built in their interest. This quarter we launched Business Banking, Prediction Markets, IPO Access, and Futures. Monthly Millionaire became our fastest feature ever to reach 1M users. And for the third year in a row, Wealthsimple was ranked #1 in customer satisfaction by J.D. Power. We're still in the early innings. Thanks to every client who trusts us with their money, and to the incredible team building the future of finance in Canada.

Michael Katchen shared thisTake Your Kids to Work Day is the best! Always a highlight of the year.Michael Katchen shared thisLast week we hosted our annual Take Your Kids to Work Day and the office was full of some very special guests. From face painting and Lego building to an intro to coding session, the kids of Wealthsimple got a behind-the-scenes look at where their parents work. We also asked them some big questions: 💰 What is money? 💻 What does your parent do all day? 🚀 What is Wealthsimple? Their answers did not disappoint. Equal parts thoughtful and very cute. Watch what they had to say 👇

Michael Katchen reposted thisMichael Katchen reposted thisExcited to share this feature in the Toronto Star from this past weekend. Alma Care started as a retreat in Yorkville, where we could support ~10 families at a time. In 2025 we shifted to bringing that same care directly into families' homes - and it's changed what we're able to do. Today our team of 170 postnatal care specialists has supported over 450 families across Ontario and BC, over 100,000+ hours of care; night and daytime nursing, lactation support, postnatal massage, mental health support, and more. The part I'm most focused on now is accessibility. A Manulife study found 40% of women consider quitting after having a baby - a number I believe would look very different if more families felt genuinely supported postpartum. For many, that support is closer than they think: if you have a health care spending account through your employer, there's often already a pathway to get this covered. That's the shift we're building toward — working with employers and benefits providers so postpartum care becomes a standard part of how new parents are supported in Canada, not a luxury. Thank you to Jared Lindzon and the Toronto Star and to our team and the families who've trusted us along the way.

Michael Katchen posted this10 ways we automate your finances at Wealthsimple, so you don't have to: 1. Paycheque routing — the moment your paycheque lands, we automatically move money to your TFSA, FHSA, RESP, savings, or wherever you want it. 2. Recurring investments — automatically buy the stocks, ETFs, or crypto you believe in on your schedule. 3. Scheduled bill payments — set up your mortgage, daycare, phone bill, utilities, and more once. Then forget about them. 4. Credit card autopay — never miss a payment or due date. 5. Scheduled e-Transfers — send money automatically for rent, allowances, gifts, or anything else that happens on a schedule. 6. Dividend reinvestment — put every dividend back to work automatically. It's one of the simplest ways to compound wealth. 7. Auto-staking — earn rewards on eligible crypto you're already holding. 8. Automated Investing — choose your portfolio and we'll keep it on track by rebalancing, directing new deposits where they're needed, and harvesting tax losses where applicable. 9. Auto-filled tax returns — we pre-populate your information so filing takes minutes instead of hours. 10. Recurring deposits — automatically move money from your external bank accounts into Wealthsimple. Our goal isn't to automate people out of the equation. It's to automate the repetitive financial tasks that no one enjoys doing. What should we automate next?

Michael Katchen reposted thisAt Wealthsimple we're all in on the transformative potential of AI. At the same time, one of our values is "be human" and we hold a high bar for how we show up for our clients and each other as humans. Reconciling these tensions is something that I think about a lot as a People leader. An important role my team now plays is to navigate with judgement the ways AI helps us deliver on "be human" and where it detracts. Curtis Norman's post is a great example of using AI to give new hires a more human experience. Just this month, the People team also shipped: 💡 The Throughline, our culture and values interview. Candidates often use AI to prepare for interviews, and the result is highly rehearsed answers that make it hard to know who someone really is. Our new journalism style format cuts through the rehearsed answers to understand how the candidate actually thinks, builds and acts. 🧠 A "second brain." We use AI to build personal wikis of what we're working on and why it matters. One of our leaders uses his to pull together meeting notes, project docs, and Slack messages, so he walks into every 1:1 already caught up. Staying human at scale is a choice. Sometimes that means using AI, sometimes it means building AI-proof. I don't think this work will ever be "done," but luckily I get to work with an incredible team on it. 👏Michael Katchen reposted this🎉 We just rebuilt New Hire Onboarding at Wealthsimple. Introducing O-Days. The goal: make your first days here as simple and human as opening a Wealthsimple account. So we rebuilt the program — shipped it in two months, testing and iterating the whole way through. What's new: 🧭 A new onboarding hub, tailored to each person's path 🎯 Every session anchored on our values, straight from the culture manual https://lnkd.in/g_ThdAMd 🛠️ Way more building. New hires build something every single day that makes their journey simpler 🚀 Week one ends with product time, conversations with leaders, and something valuable shipped New hires don't just go through O-Days, they own it. We build in the room for people to shape their own journey and get out exactly what they put in. Maker-owners from day one.

Michael Katchen reposted thisMichael Katchen reposted thisA quick update on Wealthsimple's North Star program. 🇨🇦 Last fall we posted an open invitation to Canadians living abroad. With no marketing budget - just a few gatherings with likeminded Canadians abroad - we posed a question about coming home to build ambitious, world-class products here in Canada. Everyone talks about brain drain. What gets missed is the flip side: a lot of Canadians abroad actually want to work on hard problems that are connected to home. → ~7,000 applications since launch (the appetite and excitement to build for Canada is real!) → 100+ live conversations (and counting, we're still talking to folks) → 7 offers made → 5 who are now working with us - building across AI, crypto, engineering, investment research, and treasury We're not done - if you're a Canadian abroad wondering what's being built back home, the door is open. Come build with us. More: https://lnkd.in/e2iHV5NAInside Wealthsimple’s “simple” effort to bring Canadian talent homeInside Wealthsimple’s “simple” effort to bring Canadian talent home

Michael Katchen reacted on thisTen years ago, my dad grabbed my hand on his way into brain surgery and asked me to make decisions if something happened to him. Thankfully, he recovered. But that moment showed me how unprepared we were, even with a tax lawyer for a father. I realized that even families with wills and good intentions can leave loved ones facing impossible decisions without the information, context, and conversations they need. That experience eventually led me to found Estate Kit. I'm incredibly grateful to Erin Bury and the Willful team for taking the time to share my story. Our partnership is built on a shared belief that every family deserves both a strong legal foundation and the practical information their loved ones will need when it matters most. I hope this encourages even one family to start the conversation they've been putting off.Michael Katchen reacted on thisImagine one of your parents is being wheeled into the operating room at a hospital. On the way, they grab your hand and ask you to handle any decisions if something happens to them. Would you know their wishes - if they wanted to stay on life support if it came to that, what type of pain medication they would want, what quality of life looks like for them? And if the worst happened, would you know how to honour their legacy? In this month’s edition of Willful Stories, I spoke to Estate Kit founder Amy Baryshnik. Her experience during her father’s brain surgery inspired her to create a company devoted to helping Canadians document their wishes. At Willful we're proud to be partnered with Estate Kit, and to share in the mission of helping families have the hard conversations now, to avoid hardship later. Otto is Framework Venture Partners AI powered data collection, scoring and matching service. Otto’s data corroborated Leaders Fund work. Startups in the software space in Canada peaked in 2018 at just under an estimated 20,000. As of the beginning of 2025 Otto estimates that number is below 10,000. While there is a rebound from the nadir, it is clear Canadian startups have had nearly a decade of decline. https://lnkd.in/g39A2Fqw

9 out of 10 top Canadian VC exits of all time are life sciences companies. But it remains a difficult asset class for LPs to understand, and it's costing them returns. Life sciences VCs aren't gambling on molecules. They're building platforms that generate multiple shots on goal with asymmetric upside: → Platform plays, not single assets Life sciences VCs build companies around technology platforms that can address multiple diseases. One platform, ten programs, diversified risk. → Capital efficiency at scale A $50M Series B in life sciences can create $1B+ in value. → Strategic exits, not IPO dependency Big pharma needs innovation pipelines. They acquire early and often. The exit isn't dependent on public market timing. → De-risked by design Modern life sciences VCs use AI for target discovery, biomarkers for patient selection, and platform approaches for risk mitigation. The data speaks: • 90% of Canada's top VC exits • Average exit multiples 5-10x higher than software • Shorter time to meaningful exits (5-7 years vs 10+) The LPs who understand this are getting access to some of the best returns in Canadian VC history. 👉 Register here: https://lnkd.in/eR-3j-hY 🎙️ The Fundraising Process: Turning Performance into LP Conviction 📅 November 18, 2025 at 12PM ET

⏩ State of early stage funding in Canada - a helpful lens 💡 At Panache Ventures, we've spent time building a robust dataset looking at YoY and QoQ startup formation in Canada, a demand-side indicator of what to expect in the coming 12-24 months. Latest trends across provinces, the role AI is increasingly playing in startup creation and the make-up of our Canadian founder pool. The most honest conversations in venture happen in person - so we recorded one. During Toronto Tech Week, Ripple Ventures and Carta hosted an intimate LP fireside chat at moomoo's Canadian flagship store in the heart of Yorkville. The room was filled with venture firms, institutional LPs, and family offices, together for a candid conversation about where this market is actually heading. I had the chance to sit down with two people who study and obsess over the data and the dynamics up close every day: Peter Walker (Senior Director, Insights, Carta) John Rikhtegar (Vice President, Northleaf Capital Partners) We dug into the things people usually only say behind closed doors: ✅ What LPs are really looking for in this fundraising environment, beyond the pitch deck. ✅ How GPs are adapting strategy, pacing, and portfolio construction to a tougher market. ✅ Carta's data on valuations, deployment, and liquidity, and what it signals for the next 12 months. ✅ How the Canadian and cross-border venture ecosystem is evolving, and where the real opportunity sits. Here's the part I'm excited about: we recorded the whole thing! The full conversation will be released soon as an episode of the Tank Talks podcast. If you want it the moment it drops, subscribe now (link in comments). Thank you to Carta, moomoo, and everyone who filled the room. Already thinking about the next one. #tanktalks #venturecapital #canadiantech #carta
