His legacy so far: - Running a $13.3B per year deficit (even bigger than Covid), racking up debt faster than anyone before him ever has - Literally tripling BC’s outstanding debt to $234.6B (your share of that is now $27,000 going to $40,900 by 2028) - Meanwhile, services keep getting worse: he’s watched over 1,800 ER closures, and has no legitimate plan to change anything - His government collapses BC’s complex history into a narrative of self defeat, perpetuating the idea that British Columbians are “unwelcome guests” and giving First Nations groups huge swathes of land in backroom deals with no care for the interests of average British Columbians, or even other First Nations Meanwhile, this is terrible timing for an election: - It is less than two years into his existing majority mandate - He has not lost a confidence vote, and there is no confidence vote on the horizon - He has already passed his budget - He has only one piece of legislation before the B.C. legislature, and - Municipal elections are set for October 17, and the Union of B.C. Municipalities has passed an emergency resolution demanding any provincial election be kept entirely separate from the municipal election season So why now? Because the BC Conservatives, his official Opposition, were momentarily without a leader. That’s why. That’s the only reason why. Not only did he call the election, he called it for October 24, less than a month from now - literally as fast as possible. Fortunately, the opposition has united around Lorne Doerkson, a reasonable centre-right good normal guy. And now, three of Eby’s most competent cabinet ministers, who otherwise would have continued their jobs, have resigned after this election call. His team of cronies was already lacking competence, and it’s only getting worse. This election isn’t about Trump, no matter how many time Eby says his name. It’s a referendum on Eby. Let’s thank him for it, and show him the door. We cannot let Eby succeed.

Wolf Midstream has made a final investment decision on a $500 million expansion of its NGL North system. It will create new processing capacity northwest of Fort McMurray and near Mariana Lake. This investment will also include a new cogeneration facility in Sturgeon County, and a bigger rail terminal to move product to market. Here is what that means: ✔️More ethane, propane and butane recovered from Alberta natural gas. ✔️More feedstock for the petrochemical industry in Alberta's Industrial Heartland. ✔️More product moving to customers here at home and overseas. 🚀Stephen Jagger liked this🚀Stephen Jagger liked thisDavid Eby can’t be trusted. By almost any measure, David Ebys time leading the province has been a failure, and the gap between what he says and what he delivers has become the defining feature of his premiership. He has now called a snap election, two years early and with a majority in hand, to stand up to Donald Trump, he says, but his purported nemesis looks more like a role model: the same instinct to embellish, and the same confidence that voters won’t fact-check when he takes credit for achievements that either dont exist or that he had nothing to do with. Nowhere is the gap between Eby’s rhetoric and his record wider than in housing. On the campaign trail, the NDP leader now claims credit for falling rents and rising affordability, though neither traces to provincial policies. Rents and prices have eased: because Ottawa sharply cut immigration; because economic growth has stalled and job losses are mounting (not least in the housing sector itself); and because the market is awash in supply that was conceived and financed under entirely different conditions. When fewer people are competing for more homes, prices ease – that’s market economics, not a provincial policy achievement. Having benefited from a supply cycle he did nothing to create, Eby would have been wise to keep that supply flowing; instead, he seems intent on shutting it down. Voters may have little sympathy for developers sitting on unsold inventory, but these are the same companies British Columbia will soon rely on to build the next wave of rental and affordable housing. The construction industry employs more British Columbians than forestry and mining combined, and pushing its builders out of business means fewer homes and less investment and economic activity in communities across the province. Imagine, for comparison, Ontarios premier taxing automakers on unsold cars until they lose money on every vehicle they build and are forced to close their plants. Yet this is what we have come to expect from a government that, only months ago, froze funding to non-profit housing providers and left roughly 4,000 affordable homes in jeopardy, many of them after years of work and millions of dollars spent preparing projects for a promised provincial funding program. It’s the same government that rejected a federal proposal to eliminate the GST on new homes, a tax that comes straight out of the buyers pocket, and that two-thirds of British Columbians say they want gone. A premier who claims to be on the side of affordability shouldnt have to be talked into accepting help from Ottawa, and a government that adds a new tax every time a policy falls short shouldnt be trusted with forming the next one. There’s an old saying that you’re better off watching what politicians do than listening to what they say. Having seen Eby in action, you might take that under advisement. 🚀Stephen Jagger liked this🚀Stephen Jagger liked thisI asked ChatGPT whether a tax on empty unsold units is a good idea (to be clear, I wasn't waiting on it's response to make up my mind!): Copy and Pasted: "The government has identified a legitimate problem: - 5,000 completed condos sitting unsold while housing remains unaffordable is an uncomfortable outcome. The NDP cites those units at approximately $4.45 billion in value. - But there are two fundamentally different diagnoses: Diagnosis A: Developers are withholding scarce housing to manipulate prices. Diagnosis B: The market-clearing price for newly constructed housing has fallen below—or too close to—the cost required to produce it. If A is predominantly true, the tax makes considerable sense. If B is predominantly true, the tax could be exactly backwards. The current evidence from CMHC—collapsing condo starts, weak presales, high construction costs, increasing completed inventory and projects unable to obtain financing—is much more consistent with a feasibility and demand problem than simply a withholding problem. And that's why I think the much more interesting question for the NDP would be: If 5,000 completed condos are worth less today than developers need to sell them for, what does taxing the developer change about the cost of producing the next 5,000? It doesn't reduce land costs. It doesn't reduce construction costs. It doesn't reduce DCCs. It doesn't reduce financing costs. It doesn't increase buyers' purchasing power. It just reallocates the loss. That is a very different thing from solving housing affordability. EXACTLY BACKWARDS!!!! If only everyone had access to such a logical tool! Time for a change.

This is the city that raised me, and where Jessica and I are raising our three kids. This riding was decided by 419 votes last time. Four hundred and nineteen. That's a handful of doors on every block. Most of you know me from the business side of my life, so let me focus there. Families deserve a government that respects their money. Right now, every conversation about B.C.'s deficit turns into a conversation about cuts. Almost nobody talks about growth. I've spent my career helping build companies, and I've never once seen one get healthy by shrinking. You get healthy by building something people want or need. That's the case I want to make in Victoria. Reward investment in our resources and our technology sector instead of taxing it out of the province. Clear the permitting and red tape that has founders, projects and capital quietly relocating to Alberta or the United States. Then grow the economy faster than the debt, so the next generation isn't left paying for this one. If you've tried to build something in this province, I want to hear what got in your way.
