When did Chemistry Cachet start?

What is your background?

I have a BS in Professional Chemistry with a minor in Mathematics (I love math). My professional chemistry degree means I did my focus on chemistry too. All of my classes and specialties in college were chemistry classes with additional writing classes. Some chemistry degrees have a focus on something else like biology (biochemistry) or criminal justice (forensic chemistry).  I loved chemistry so much, I just wanted to take all the chemistry classes I could. This is why I went with the professional degree choice in the hopes I would someday be a professional chemist…I guess running Chemistry Cachet has allowed me to do that 🙂

Why do you only publish one new post a week?

I try to publish one new blog post per week for a few reasons. One, I am a mom of two young kids, and I work from home. I don’t have as much time to work as I used to 🙂 Also, I spend many months in testing and research for each blog post, so there is a lot behind the scenes going on to get a blog post prepared for readers.

Why do you always use Dawn?

Since I started making DIY cleaners and household recipes, I have tried many dish soaps (formally known as dishwashing liquids). I always preferred the way Dawn mixed in things and cleaned. Before I started this blog, I used Dawn for everything. I continue to recommend it to get the most out of your homemade cleaners. You want to make products that minimize ingredients, but also work effectively at cleaning. If you don’t want to use Dawn, you can substitute with a concentrated dish soap. Just keep in mind my recommendation on this.

Why don’t you post many homemade skincare products?

I only share homemade recipes for cleaning, skincare, or gardening if they work as well as a store-bought item. Skincare is tricky because you can’t formulate products at home, so everything homemade needs to be safe. This limits what you can make at home when it comes to skincare. Cleaning products are easier because the results are more achievable versus getting results on skin. My goal with skincare is to find products that work the best for the best cost. I research in-depth ingredients, the purpose of the ingredients, then I test skincare for months or years before sharing it. Homemade skincare products are more basic. So for things like body scrubs, lip scrubs, basic masks or serums, you can get quick results with a DIY recipe. When it comes to treating specific problems like aging, acne, dark spots, red spots, or anything like this, it is best to stick with products that are created specifically for that issue. Homemade skincare is not always the safest choice!

Why do you have ads on your website?

Running a website and a newsletter are expensive, so having advertisements allows me to pay for web hosting, maintenance, themes, and product testing . My newsletter has grown a lot over the years, and the cost continues to increase! It is very expensive to keep a newsletter going which is why many bloggers don’t have one. I also like to keep Chemistry Cachet authentic, so I don’t do many sponsored posts as you have noticed. I also don’t take on many affiliates. Ads are neutral and mean I can dedicate more time to researching and testing things just for readers! I have my ads set on the lowest setting they have, so I actually make way less money than most websites! I don’t want the ads to be too annoying 🙂 Since I am like this, I take a large pay cut, but I care about the readers experience more than making money.

Why don’t you have more YouTube videos?

I only have a handful of basic videos for this website, and I host them through YouTube. I don’t really have a YouTube channel or produce videos at this time. It takes so much time, and I do all of the work myself. I’m also a mom of two working from home, so I have to prioritize what is important. I stick to Instagram videos for now! If you came over from YouTube, I’m glad you are here! I don’t monitor my YouTube channel lol

Why don’t you have a hard copy available for the eBook?

Maybe someday there will be a hard copy book, but for now, I just have an ebook. This was specifically written to be an eBook with links throughout, so it won’t ever be a hard copy. You can print it out if you’d like though! If Chemistry Cachet has the opportunity to have a hard copy book, it will be a little different than this eBook.

How did you get into cleaning and skincare?

I went into this field because I have always been intrigued by the science in personal and household products. I love to find out how and why something works. Getting to research and test products for this website is a joy to me! I did it for myself for many years before starting this website. Now I get to do it for all of you too.
