What Dependent Dropdowns for Google Sheets™ does

It creates and maintains connected dropdowns in the spreadsheet you have open.

Dependent Dropdowns for Google Sheets™ reads the source table and output cells you select in the current spreadsheet. It uses that access to create data-validation rules, show only valid next choices, and clear later answers when they no longer match.

Your spreadsheet cell values and dropdown selections stay inside Google Sheets™ and are not sent to Codeprint. Codeprint receives only the account, usage, and billing information needed to provide the Free and Pro plans.

The idea in 10 seconds

Your list already contains the rules

You do not write conditions. If a combination exists in your source table, people can select it. If it does not, they cannot.

One picker or a whole table

Use the same source data in two different ways. The add-on walks you through both.

Repeating table

Pick one starting cell. The add-on places each level beside it and fills down for every row.

  • Ideal for logs and trackers
  • Hundreds of entry rows
  • Each row works independently

If your choices have an order, this fits

The labels can be anything. What matters is that each choice should narrow what comes next.

Three decisions. The sidebar does the rest.

If you can highlight cells, you can build this.

1
Highlight the list you already have

Select the headers and the rows beneath them. The add-on reads the level names for you.

2
Confirm the order

Put the broad choice first and the specific choice last: Make → Model → Trim.

1 → 2 → 3
3
Choose where they go

Assign exact cells for a Form, or one starting cell for a Repeating table. Then press Create.

Fast where it matters

The next choice is ready when you are

Form dropdown options recalculate inside Google Sheets, so the next list narrows immediately. The add-on safely clears a later answer only when it no longer fits.

01Your sheet stays yours

Spreadsheet values and dropdown choices are not sent to Codeprint.

02Native Google Sheets controls

People use familiar dropdowns directly inside the cells.

03Repair without panic

If a rule is removed, the sidebar shows Needs repair and gives you one clear action.

04Grow without rebuilding

Use up to five connected levels and manage multiple configurations from one sidebar.

Quick answers

What people want to know first

Do I need to write formulas?+

No. You choose the source table, the dropdown order, and where the dropdowns should go. The add-on handles the working setup.

Can the source data live on another sheet?+

Yes. Your source list and your finished dropdowns can live on different sheets in the same spreadsheet.

What happens if I change an earlier answer?+

The choices below it narrow immediately. Any later value that is no longer valid is cleared safely.

Can I build a form instead of filling an entire column?+

Yes. Form mode lets you choose one exact cell for each level—even when those cells are far apart.

Does Codeprint receive my spreadsheet data?+

No. Spreadsheet values and dropdown selections stay inside Google Sheets.
