Jean-Paul Genay a aimé ceciThanks Daniele for the short update on the important and essential multisite fungicide based on copper.Jean-Paul Genay a aimé ceciCopper is the oldest pesticide we still use, and the one we still can't agree on... It's a candidate for substitution under Reg. 1107/2009 — renewed in 2018 for seven years instead of fifteen, capped at 28 kg/ha. Officially, something we should be moving away from right? It's also one of the very few fungicides organic farming can genuinely rely on: take it away and you don't get a greener vineyard, you get no vineyard. And it's an element. You can't design a friendlier metabolite profile for copper. It doesn't degrade, because there's nothing for it to degrade into. Our whole risk assessment framework was built for molecules that break down over time. Copper politely declines. In July 2025 the Commission pushed the approval to 30 June 2029. Not because the science was resolved — because the dossier queue is long. Regulatory time and agronomic time have never been the same thing. So the question I find more interesting than the toxicology: what does it mean to regulate a substance that is ancient, essential, unavoidable and officially undesirable to some of the EU Member States all at once? I'll be speaking at a webinar on the copper renewal on the 25th of September (link in the comments) — the CfS logic, comparative assessment, and the scenarios I think are realistic between now and 2029... and beyond. Before that, I'd rather hear from you: is copper a transitional problem we haven't solved, or a permanent exception we haven't admitted to? This 5-year-old vineyard has been treated with EliVitis® for the past 3 years as part of a multi-year study. The objective is to assess the effects of the solution, applied three times per season, on: • young vine establishment, • vine physiology throughout the season, • yield, • and must quality after harvest. For this year’s harvest, 6 replicates of the microplot were harvested and measured: number of bunches per vine, total harvest weight, bunch weight and berry diameter. Samples of 200 berries were also collected for oenological analyses, including parameters related to water stress, with the Labexcell laboratory in Floirac, France. This work is carried out in collaboration with the Charente Chamber of Agriculture (Chambre d'Agriculture de la Charente), which manages the applications on the microplot and also provides technical expertise and access to its network, alongside our teams who monitor the plot throughout the year. Thank you to Chloé CARDOT, Benjamin Hirondeau, Isabelle Chat-Locussol and all the team members who took part in this new stage of the monitoring process. Agronomic research is also about this: observing, measuring and monitoring crops over time, as close to the field as possible. #EliVitis #Viticulture #UgniBlanc #Cognac #Agronomy #Research #WaterStress #Vineyard #Charente #ElicitPlant

Jean-Paul Genay a aimé ceciJean-Paul Genay a aimé ceci🌍Drought is putting European farms under pressure. How can crop diversity support more resilient farming? ⬇️ ️This summer has shown us more clearly than ever how severely heat and drought affect European agriculture. With record-breaking heat and hardly any rain, drought is drying out soils, putting crops under pressure and causing significant losses for farmers across Europe. Dry soils, difficult crop establishment and yield losses are becoming familiar challenges in many regions. 💧Soya needs sufficient water throughout the growing season, especially during flowering and pod formation. 🌱But soya is a relatively adaptable crop. Compared with some crops, such as maize, it can cope better with short periods of water stress. Its deep root system and ability to temporarily slow growth can help it manage changing conditions. This makes European soya relevant to the climate adaptation debate. Not because soya is a single solution. But because it can contribute to: • More diverse crop rotations • More resilient farming systems • A stronger European protein supply • Reduced dependence on imported protein As a legume, soya also fixes nitrogen from the atmosphere and can support more efficient nutrient management within the rotation. 🎯The key question is how the right combination of crops, varieties, soil management and water availability can help farms adapt to a changing climate. Current drought conditions are also contributing to feed shortages in parts of Europe. This underlines why soya matters as an important source of protein for livestock feed. Strengthening European soya production can help make feed supplies more resilient. ➡️European soya has a role to play – when it is grown in the right place and as part of a wider strategy for resilient agriculture. #DonauSoja #EuropeSoya #ProteinTransition #Sustainability #Agriculture #ClimateAdaptation #Drought
