1I like "démonstration" better than "preuve". But it seems to me you misunderstood my point: the crucial point is that science is falsifiable, not unprovable. Your attempt suggests also the alternative "mise en évidence": "Une affirmation extraordinaire appelle à une miss en évidence extraordinaire" is not so bad.Jean-Denis Muys– Jean-Denis Muys2011-09-12 16:54:54 +00:00Commented Sep 12, 2011 at 16:54

@Jean-Denis Muys: I think I fully understand your argument, and as I said, still disagree with the gist of it. But I don't think here is the proper place to have an epistemological debate (and I doubt we would come out any more convinced of each other's position: both having equally valid arguments to back them up). BTW, I'm not sure "mise en évidence" would be an appropriate translation here (despite its tempting etymological similarities with the English).Dave– Dave2011-09-13 01:46:31 +00:00Commented Sep 13, 2011 at 1:46

How to Tag
A tag is a keyword or label that categorizes your question with other, similar questions. Choose one or more (up to 5) tags that will help answerers to find and interpret your question.
- complete the sentence: my question is about...
- use tags that describe things or concepts that are essential, not incidental to your question
- favor using existing popular tags
- read the descriptions that appear below the tag
If your question is primarily about a topic for which you can't find a tag:
- combine multiple words into single-words with hyphens (e.g. choix-de-mot), up to a maximum of 35 characters
- creating new tags is a privilege; if you can't yet create a tag you need, then post this question without it, then ask the community to create it for you
