Whenever I save a my notebook (filename.nb), I get the error "RenameFile: Directory or file "..path..\filename.m" not found.", and the file doesn't save.

It happens both with ctrl+s and ctrl+shift+s. I have tried changing the file name and path to remove problematic characters, getting rid of initialization cells, getting rid of similarly named packages, turning off backup apps etc. and nothing worked. The "AutoGeneratePackage" setting is off. The problems stops if I just copy everything into a new file and save it, but then it comes back after a while.

I have tried just making a .m file, and then the saving works fine and the .m gets changed to .wl. The next time I save the problem just comes back.

Does anyone know of something that can cause this?
