I was adding tag descriptions to those without description today on Movies&TV, and for every tag I got an error when I pressed Submit.

An error occurred submitting the post.

If I reload the page then I can Edit the description, and it gets submitted without error. (I don't have tag edit privileges, if that is relevant.)

I checked the browser console and it shows me an error 500. Could it be somewhat related to It is now impossible to make a suggested edit to a tag-info?

Lifted from bobble's dupe question:

Steps to reproduce

  1. Go to a site where you don't have full tag wiki edit privileges.
  2. Click "Improve tag info" for any tag, e.g , either from the tagged-questions page or from the tag wiki. Make an edit.
  3. Attempt to submit the edit. You get an error, "An error occurred submitting the post": An error occurred submitting the post At this moment, the suggested edit is already created (for the tag wiki only, not the excerpt); you just don't see it.
  4. Attempt to submit the edit again. You get an error, "You can perform this action again in 10 seconds": You can perform this action again in 10 seconds (The wait-ten-seconds error doesn't occur if you actually wait ten seconds between the first attempt and the next time you press the button.)
  5. Wait ten seconds. Now the edit works fine.

Edit: it's 2025 and I still cannot submit tag descriptions without bumping into this error. Am I the only one getting this error?

I can confirm this is still a problem. Thankfully persistence pays off eventually. Commented May 29 at 17:41

  • @horsey_guy oh no it's spreading! I hope it gets fixed soon... Commented Aug 18 at 12:10
  • Had this on RuSO since several months now iirc. Just wait 10sec and try again. Commented Aug 18 at 14:00

@Darce thank you for fixing this, I can confirm it works now. Usually, an answer is posted as well, which will gain you a couple of imaginary Internet points and the beginning of fame among the community. Also, as Sonic notes, tag-only edits don't notify the question author so they might not even discover their bug has been fixed at all. Commented Aug 21 at 18:44
  • ...as well as notifying the author and followers that the request is completed (tag-only edits don't trigger any notifications). @Darce Commented Aug 21 at 18:59
  • Has any come across the read-only tag form that might appear, or am I the only one..? Commented Sep 9 at 16:32

FYI, it seems the bug has resurfaced. Commented Sep 9 at 15:09
  • Yes, I don't have much to add to what is already in the link that Glorfindel provided, apart from highlighting the read-only form that stopped me in my tracks, whilst making tags edits. The read-only form doesn't seem to be mentioned in the OP's meta question. Commented Sep 9 at 16:29
