As new types of Stack Overflow posts are there, I am unsure how the score is calculated.

For instance, one of the new types is "Advice" questions.

I see there are no upvote/downvote buttons to cast votes and answers there are more of a comment section or conversation (actually, you can't even comment such questions).

But I am unsure if and how votes on questions of new type (such as "Advice") are counted. Same question for answers.

Since there is no voting there, there's no reputation gain nor loss.

However, as with comments, you can like or dislike a post. Does that count in any way towards tag score?

For example, if there's question of type "Advice" with , will getting likes on my answer there count towards score?

Are there any clear docs on Meta Overflow or Stack Overflow covering this information?

The only "documentation" that exists on the Opinion Based posts, at this time, is what exists in the annoucement. Commented Dec 11, 2025 at 11:02

If the question seems to be looking for advice, then up-vote. If it is a question not looking for advice, then it is not a question but something else. Also upvote: questions ending with question mark, questions which are about programming, answers that are not questions. This is our new quality standard, enjoy. Commented Dec 11, 2025 at 11:40

You do what the average visitor of the site does - as you please. That would be the point of the experiment... to see what the average visitor today wants so they... you know... might decide to actually come back and do more stuff. So if you want to stick to very old ways based on rules and regulations of a site that was built for the previous decade - go ahead. Ask meta what you should be doing. But this is your opportunity to break free. Commented Dec 11, 2025 at 12:26

If I could unanswear the one such question I took I would get rid of it just to keep my profile clean... What a horrible Q&A format. Commented Dec 12, 2025 at 4:57

Besides the terrible layout and total lack of threading (no comments), the big downside for me is not getting any notifications when people upvote my posts, or other posts reference mine. I often look back on old answers when someone upvotes years later, and frequently find something to improve (which is worth the effort on old answers that seem to be getting some attention.) Seems to me opinions are at least equally likely to be worth updating years later vs. factual answers, so this is a huge downside. Commented Dec 13, 2025 at 19:44

For example, if there's question of type "Advice" with tag1, will getting likes on my answer there count towards tag1 score?

Yes, it appears that upthumbing will count towards tag score for a user.

I found this user who currently has a score of 3 for

The tag information from the user profile shows the "algorithm" tag has a score of 3 and 1 post.

and they currently have only post for it - a reply to an Advice question and the visible score on that post is 3.

The listing of all posts tagged "algorithm" from the aforementioned user has 1 result, with score of 3, and the type of post is "Advice".

Are there any clear docs on Meta Overflow or Stack Overflow covering this information?

No.

Considering opinion-based questions don't need to have on-topic "answers" this seems like a horrible idea. I can make a funny comment in a reply to a post and if it's upvoted get tag score without actually having expertise in the tag. Awesome Commented Dec 11, 2025 at 21:57

Does this mean a user can get a gold tag badge from (only) opinion posts? Commented Dec 12, 2025 at 2:55

@gunr2171 I think it's very likely it would work that way. Commented Dec 12, 2025 at 5:48
