The Copper Age is a game drop that was released on September 30, 2025 as Java Edition 1.21.9 and Bedrock Edition 1.21.111.^[1][2] Its theme is about new copper uses. It introduced copper armor and tools, copper nuggets, and also others like various copper decorations, copper golems, copper golem statues, and shelves.

During development, the update was referred to as Fall Drop 2025 and Drop 3 2025. The final name of the update was revealed in a Minecraft.net article on August 28, 2025.^[3]

Experimental features for the update have been released prior to the finalized release as part of Bedrock Edition 1.21.100.

Copper bars

• A new type of bars.
• Oxidizes over time.
• Can be waxed like other copper blocks.
• Crafted using 6 copper ingots.

Copper chain

• A new type of chain.
• Oxidizes over time.
• Can be waxed like other copper blocks.
• Crafted using a copper ingot and 2 copper nuggets.

Copper chest

• A new type of chest.
• Oxidizes over time.
• Can be waxed like other copper blocks.
• Crafted using a chest and copper ingots.
• Can be spawned by placing a carved pumpkin or jack o'lantern on top of a block of copper and also spawning a copper golem on top.
• Can be interacted with by copper golems.
• Placing two will create a large copper chest, like the wooden large chest.

Copper golem statue

• After a copper golem reaches full oxidation, it will become a copper golem statue, with a random pose.
• Oxidizes over time.
• Can be waxed like other copper blocks.
• Pose can be changed by interacting with it.
  • Every pose has a unique comparator signal.
  • The poses are Standing (default), Running, Sitting, and Star.
• Using an axe on a copper golem statue will remove oxidation and eventually bring it back to life.

Copper lantern

• A new type of lantern.
• Oxidizes over time.
• Can be waxed like other copper blocks.
• Crafted using a copper torch surrounded by 8 copper nuggets.

Copper torch

• A new type of torch.
• Does not oxidize.
• Crafted using a stick, coal and copper nugget.

Lightning rod (oxidised variants)

• Added exposed, weathered, and oxidized variants of lightning rods.
• Lightning rods now oxidize and can be waxed like other copper blocks.
• If not waxed, lightning rods struck by lightning will return to their unoxidized state.

Shelf

• A new storage block.
• Crafted using stripped logs.
• Can store 3 stacks of items.
• When powered by redstone, its front texture changes.
  • When powered by redstone, interacting with the block will swap the rightmost items in the hotbar with the contents of the shelf.
• Can be connected to other shelves to switch out more than just three hotbar slots.

Copper armor

• Added copper helmet, copper chestplate, copper leggings and copper boots.
• Copper armor has higher armor points than leather armor but less than golden armor. Its durability is higher than golden armor but less than chainmail and iron armor. It has an enchantability of 8, less than iron armor (9) and giving it the lowest enchantability out of any armor type.
• Provides a total of 10 () armor points.

Copper golem spawn egg

• Used to spawn a copper golem.
  • Does not generate a copper chest.

Copper horse armor

• A new type of horse armor.
• Provides 4 () armor points.
• Generates in the same loot tables with the same chances as iron horse armor.
• Cannot be crafted.

Copper nugget

• Copper equipment turns into copper nuggets when smelted.
• Nine copper nuggets can be turned into a copper ingot, and vice versa.

Copper tools and weapons

• Added copper axes, copper hoes, copper pickaxes, copper shovels, and copper swords.

• Copper tools and weapons are crafted and repaired using copper ingots. They do the same amount of damage as stone but have higher durability. Copper tools have higher mining efficiency than stone tools, but less than iron tools. Copper tools have an enchantability of 13, higher than diamond (10) but less than iron (14).

Copper golem

• A passive mob that can be built with a carved pumpkin or jack o'lantern placed on a block of copper, creating a copper chest along with the golem.
• Drops between 1 and 3 copper ingots when killed.
• Automatically picks up items from copper chests and sort them into chests and trapped chests.
  • The golem does this by taking an item out and carrying the item in its hand to a chest.
  • Will only put the item in a chest that is empty or already has 1 or more of the item.
  • Can pick up a max of 16 items in a stack at a time.
    • The holding item can be picked.
• Can open non-iron doors.
• Oxidizes just like copper blocks do, can be waxed, and loses oxidation when struck by lightning. It does not take damage from lightning.
  • When it fully oxidizes, it becomes a copper golem statue and freezes in a random pose.
• Can have a poppy placed on its head when interacted by an iron golem in which case said poppy can be sheared.
  • The poppy pops off when the golem gets fully oxidized.

End sky

• Added the End flash to Java Edition which makes the sky periodically emit purple glow and play various sounds. These were previously only in Bedrock Edition with Vibrant Visuals enabled.
  • Block lighting becomes purple tinted during the flash, which is more noticeable on lower brightness settings.
  • There is a 30 second delay between flashes.
  • Each flash lasts between 5 and 19 seconds.
  • While the ender dragon fog effect is active the flash source in the sky is not visible and the brightness of the light affecting the world is reduced.

Iron chain

• Renamed from "Chain" to "Iron Chain" to distinguish it from the copper chain.

Copper trapdoor

• The crafting recipe now uses 4 copper ingots, instead of 6.
• The crafting recipe now produces 1 copper trapdoor instead of 2.

Dyes

• Updated all dye textures.
  • This was done to enhance visual cohesion across the dye set while maintaining distinct shapes to support color blindness accessibility.
  • Each dye now has a unique shape, and appears on a brown palette.

Iron golem

• Can now interact with the copper golem by planting a poppy on them.

• 1.21.10 was a minor hotfix update.

• 1.21.112 was a hotfix for PlayStation 5 only that fixed a critical issue.
• 1.21.113 was a hotfix which fixed some bugs.
• 1.21.114 was a hotfix which fixed some bugs.
• 1.21.120 was a minor update which redesigned the pause menu and fixed bugs.
• 1.21.121 was a hotfix which fixed some bugs.
• 1.21.122 was a hotfix for Windows only which fixed some bugs.
• 1.21.123 was a hotfix which fixed some bugs.
• 1.21.124 was a hotfix which fixed some bugs.

The Copper Collection challenge,^[4] also referred to as the Copper Community Challenge,^[5] is a community challenge promoting the release of the game drop.^[6] Announced on August 29, 2025, the challenge lasted 4 days, ending on September 2, 2025. In order to complete the challenge, players on Bedrock Edition had to collectively mine 50,000,000 (50 million) copper ore.^[6] Upon completing the challenge, a character creator item was given out.^[7] The Oxidized Copper Collector item was given out to certain Minecraft creators who help promote the Copper Collection challenge.^[8]

Three special reward drops were available to promote the release of the game drop. One was available through TikTok,^[9] and the other two were available through Twitch.^[10]

To promote the release of the drop, a special three-part community challenge has begun on September 30, 2025. Players will try to complete three challenges to earn the Copper Cape. By completing the first two challenges, all Bedrock Edition players will earn the two character creator items, and all Java Edition players will earn a skin pack. The third challenge requires individual players' participation to earn the cape.^[11]

1. First Challenge: Players must summon at least 75 million copper golems between September 30–October 6, 2025.^[12]
2. Second Challenge: Players must uses their Copper golems need to organize 500 million items between October 7–13, 2025.^[13]
3. Final Challenge: Players must choose either one of the following tasks in order to obtain the cape.^[14]
   1. Pick up a copper golem statue and place it somewhere in Bedrock Edition in any game mode. When done, you get your cape by October 31 in the Dressing Room (Bedrock only).
   2. Complete either one of the WatchTime Quests: Watch 3 minutes of any Minecraft livestream on TikTok, or watch 5 minutes of any Minecraft livestream on Twitch. Once you have your code, redeem it at Minecraft by Nov 19.^{[note 1]}
   3. Claim your code in-person at The Copper Crown event in San Diego, CA between October 17–19 , 2025, then redeem your code at Minecraft by Nov 19.

As part of the drop's promotion, a special edition of MC Championship was announced, organized in collaboration between Mojang Studios and Twitch. As with prior editions, it features several figures from across the community, including Seapeekay, CaptainSparklez, hannahxxrose, and Grian. It took place on October 19, 2025, 18:00 UTC at the 2025 edition of Twitch Rivals.
