What is the recommended reading order for Hugh Howey's "Silo" series (including those by other authors)?
1 Answer
Howey, on his official webpage, recommends that you read the main works; Wool, Shift, and Dust, in their original published order (e.g. rather than chronological in-universe).
You may wish to note that the three books were published as a single omnibus edition in this same order.
WOOL introduced the silo and its inhabitants. SHIFT told the story of their making. DUST will chronicle their undoing.
In his blog he discusses adding part numbers to help people make the move into the new prequel series, Shift (e.g. First Shift – Legacy: Part 6 of the Silo Stories) clearly indicating that it's intended to follow on.
The various author-written short stories and authorised fan-fiction stories focus on individual characters and situations, and contain spoilers for the main series. It seems obvious that they should be read after enjoying the three omnibus books and may have their own internal reading order.
