No LTS by Ubuntu-Mate, no hesitation, please only indicate the current state. I would prefer it would be going on.

2You'll have to wait; there was NO Ubuntu MATE 26.04 LTS release; but existing users will be able to release-upgrade to it, and new installs (of Ubuntu or other flavors) can switch their systems to Ubuntu MATE (26.04), but the new development team have not said anything about how the project will be in the future (ie. Ubuntu MATE 26.10) so any answer currently will be inaccurate/speculation or "you'll have to wait and see". Martin's last posts highlighted linuxmatters.sh/80 so have you listened to that?guiverc– guiverc2026-04-29 21:25:41 +00:00Commented yesterday

2Ubuntu MATE Discourse closure schedule has been delayed a tad due to some complications; but its still being worked on (just dates will be a little later those listed on plans) [ Inactive accounts (created by never posted anything) have been purged etc so some stats differ, also reducing size of archive ] For official news on the project, I'd look on Ubuntu Discourse, but other than Martin's recent post (my-yesterday) there is no news (we were given some details on who has stepped up to take over etc)guiverc– guiverc2026-04-29 21:26:32 +00:00Commented yesterday

3This question is similar to: Ubuntu-Mate 24.04, help for understanding : No 26.04 LTS version will be released. If you believe it’s different, please edit the question, make it clear how it’s different and/or how the answers on that question are not helpful for your problem.Daniel T– Daniel T2026-04-30 04:10:26 +00:00Commented yesterday

There is no Ubuntu MATE 26.04 release
https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/ubuntu-26-04-resolute-raccoon-lts-released/80833
Ubuntu 26.04 LTS, codenamed “Resolute Raccoon”, is here. This release continues Ubuntu’s proud tradition of integrating the latest and greatest open source technologies into a high-quality, easy-to-use Linux distribution. ...
...
The newest Edubuntu, Kubuntu, Lubuntu, Ubuntu Budgie, Ubuntu Cinnamon, Ubuntu Kylin, Ubuntu Studio, Ubuntu Unity, and Xubuntu are also being released today. For more details on these, read their individual release notes under the Official flavors section:
https://documentation.ubuntu.com/release-notes/26.04/#official-flavors
The Ubuntu MATE team didn't meet the required milestones and their leader stood down asking for new maintainers, see
https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/ubuntu-mate-seeking-maintainers/79264/
In fact only ~hours ago posted an update, via link to the Linux Matters Podcast where Martin talks about who is taking over. The new team are expected to have their first release with Ubuntu MATE 26.10, but as of now there is no posts by them; it's too early !
The Ubuntu MATE Discourse is still closing down as per https://ubuntu-mate.community/t/31342 though timelines have been pushed a little due to some 'complications' (mostly related to size; so discourse is still running as its helpful to resolve some issues for the archive that is still yet to be run).
Ubuntu MATE did not, and will not have a resolute or 26.04 release.
The lack of release, should not impact existing users, as their OS is treated as a Ubuntu system by the Ubuntu Release Upgrader tool, and the MATE component is only packages, which will get upgraded like all packages. I've written about it at the following places
- https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/what-will-be-the-upgrade-options-to-new-releases-versions-for-current-ubuntu-mate-users/80091/2?u=guiverc
- https://ubuntu-mate.community/t/upgrade-question-once-again/31216/2?u=guiverc
and Thomas Ward wrote about it at
which is the most up-to-date information we have. We'll know more when the new Ubuntu MATE team get started & give us more.
