    Hi, 
    the prod i am getting has a 9 inch draw. the look i want for my crossbow would preferably have a larger draw. are there any string types which can make the draw longer? so with any elasticity in them, like a rubbery core or something?

    Rubber-cored strings just wouldn't work except in a slingshot rather than a crossbow.   Is this for a LARP, or real-world crossbow?

    Generally we don't design and build crossbows for the "look" at full cock, but for optimum draw weight and overall functionality.  

    Prod size, shape and draw weight are basic determinants for draw length.  A longer, lighter draw weight prod might work for you.  A prod with designed-in deflex could have a longer draw.  Or a prod made of something like solid fiberglass or wood-fiberglass composite (similar to a vertical bow) rather than steel.   

     I used solid fiberglass fence bars 1/4" x 3/4" to make the 2-bar loose-laminate that prod you see on my avatar bow.  That prod, with stacked 28" and 18" bars, has a 4" brace height and 14" draw from the prod to the trigger, with a draw weight in excess of #250.  A single bar might have an 20" or more draw, but perhaps only #80-100 draw weight.

    Hi Jasper.
    The rule of proportion for late gothic crossbows was length of tiller is same as length of string, assuming you are after a correct medieval look
