Well…

Here we go.

My username is Malachi, and the chief Worldbuilding AND writing project I’m working on is called The Blue Flood. It’s a near future sci-fi and alternative history story, that centers around the formation, galactic-scale expansion, and slow decline of a near-global country called The Empire of Earth. And when I say “near-global”, I mean that intentionally.

A few countries, or small portions of them, are still independent, and most of them play important roles in the plot. These include the Vatican City, the Baltic states, North Korea (kneecapped militarily, don’t panic), Puerto Rico, Haiti, and parts of Saudi Arabia and Israel.

The lore regarding the formation of The Empire of Earth is a bit… odd, especially since it’s still being worked on, but I’ve generally narrowed it down to this:

  1. The Great Recession isn’t handled like it was in the real world, and eventually turns into a Second Great Depression.
  2. A semi-right wing radical political by the name of Andrew Carnegie, and their party, the Knights of The Great Revolution (KGL) garners major popular support by preaching benevolent totalitarianism (sound familiar???)
  3. Second Great Depression doesn’t end, and doesn’t look like it will any time soon.
  4. The KGL launches several coups in pretty much every major and middle democratic country in ~2009

And it sort of spirals from there, and through the will of the people Supreme Emperor of Earth, the KGL and their seemingly endless tide of partisans conquer most of the world by 2012. If that all seems extremely unrealistic, it’s not really intended to be the most plausible scenario.

A whole lot of stuff follows this, some events more important than others. Including, but not limited to:

  • A short succession crisis in 2037
  • The start of a galactic scale war of conquest in 2033
  • Quite a few constitutional crises
  • A civil war, from 2061-20651
  • A near comical amount of political assassinations in the 2050’s
  • The formation of an Imperial Inquisition, for the investigation of traitors and “political heretics.”

And a whole bunch of other political intrigue, military campaigns, and events regarding individual characters. It’s a big universe, still heavily a work in progress, and a relatively long timeline (2001-2109).

The principal way that I'm currently expanding my project is by participating on Stack Exchange, mainly in Worldbuilding and Writing. I also try and make my submissions for the writing topic challenges all2 take place in, and be canon too, The Blue Flood universe.

Also, if this seems like a somewhat poorly organized lore dump… you’re not wrong. If you took the time to read all of this, and actually comprehended it, thanks, and good on you!

1 When I was first drafting up the Human Civil War, I didn’t intentionally make the years match those of the American Civil War, but it works out pretty nicely…

2 Notable excluding this one here, for the “Ironic Contrast” challenge. It’s not to be taken seriously (quite ironically[ha, double irony. Or triple? Who’s keeping track at this point?]).
