Abigail Anello shared thisAbigail Anello shared thisI am proud to share the brand new podcast series inspired by my first book, We Interrupt This Broadcast. Hosted by broadcast legend Bill Kurtis and narrated by NBC’s Brian Williams, the series celebrates the crucial role broadcast journalism has played – and continues to play - in our culture. Each episode unfolds with the brisk pace and tone of a thriller while presenting an in-depth look into the reporting of, and reaction to, the major news events that have since become benchmarks in history. You’ll hear these stories as you’ve never heard them before. 12 episodes of Season 1 are up now. Today’s the anniversary of Apollo 11. Apparently, it meant packing boxes and buying furniture because for the third time this year, I’ll be moving again. I’m so excited to announce I’m moving to Detroit to be the Corporate Communications Coordinator with the Detroit Lions! From Miami to Cleveland to NYC to now Detroit, I am extremely grateful for every experience that has brought me here. I’d like to thank everyone who supported me at Hunter and the Cleveland Browns, pushing me to try new things and being a loud cheerleader through every transition. I’m so excited to see where this new chapter takes me. And if you don’t hear for me in the next week, it’s probably because I’m drowning in a mountain of tape, boxes and too many clothes!

Launching October 26, we’re putting this into action by rewarding how our Relationship Tier clients already bank and invest with us, while giving them a compelling reason to deepen their relationship with Citi. I recently spoke with Barron's about our strategy, how we’re challenging the old banking playbook, and what this launch means for the future of retail banking. As AI reshapes every industry, small- and mid-sized communications agencies like ours have an opportunity to thrive. Why? Because generative AI doesn’t threaten our business model. Spring Green Communications is made up of a select number of senior comms pros delivering strategy and execution, 360-style. The arrival of AI to the way we work doesn’t represent replacement, it levels the playing field of sorts, offering increased efficiency and inspiration. While we experiment with and adopt AI capabilities to improve research and content development, we’re staying true to our Spring Green AI Principles — a set of internal standards guiding the ways we do and don’t use generative AI, to responsibly manage projects, budget and client IP. As you look to retain comms and marketing support for 2026, this may be the right time, for maybe the first time, to consider alternatives to a big agency with a big price tag and give a proven boutique firm a look. Here’s what’s in it for you: - Faster, more creative solutions because these firms (like us!) have fewer legacy systems and less bureaucracy - Personalized attention from a nimble team that is AI-enabled but authentically human - Competitive pricing providing more services and deeper engagement for your investment AI is redefining how communications and storytelling are done best — and reshaping who can do it best. The traditional ‘who’ might be changing. And we’re here for it.

This was an interesting course from Robert Shiller (the Yale economist and co-developer of the Case-Shiller index) focused on how viral narratives shape public beliefs and drive economic conditions. A few takeaways stood out as particularly relevant from a strategic communications and reputation management perspective: 1. The truth is not enough to stop false narratives: We talk often about counter-narratives, particularly in the context of issues management, but this is sometimes viewed as secondary (a “nice-to-have”), while the heavier emphasis defaults to sharing “truth” or “facts” via rapid response statements and background media management. But the truth is not enough once the seed of a false or damaging narrative is planted; belief requires credible and equally-or-more compelling narrative alternatives. 2. The most important narratives aren’t always the most talked-about: In the push to demonstrate value and quantify results, narrative success is sometimes conflated with volume of mentions — but Shiller shows that influential and durable narratives aren’t always widely or frequently discussed. Foundational narratives can be so deeply embedded that they go unmentioned, even as their effects permeate. 3. “Narrative constellations” drive the most impact: The idea is simple, but I really appreciated the new (to me) terminology. Narrative repetition is important (another key principle), but single narratives aren’t as effective as a “constellation” of unique and mutually-reinforcing narratives. https://lnkd.in/df8FeNm5

Good read from PR Daily's Allison Carter. Language matters. Word choice is important. As communications professionals, nuances can make a huge difference in how we set expectations, counsel clients and talk about the work we do so that everyone "gets" it...including understanding what's possible, what isn't, and what we actually need to do (and how!) to achieve our goals. https://lnkd.in/gr6AtMNN

Last week, PRSA-NY hosted our kickoff event, “Navigating 2026’s Toughest Comms Challenges,” moderated by Heather Landy at Bloomberg, with insights from Paul Cohen (Attention Comms), Matthew Panichas (Hunter), and Kim Wix (Daiichi Sankyo US). Using new research from The Conference Board’s C-Suite Outlook, the discussion sought to answer how can communications leaders help organizations navigate a complex landscape and emerge stronger. A few takeaways I jotted down: - Economic uncertainty remains the top concern for CEOs, especially in the US (43% vs. 29% of global CEOs) 📈 - Demonstrating the value of AI investments is their greatest priority. Good news for comms teams: we have the data on our side now that we can more deeply understand the effectiveness of GEO and where these models are pulling data from. ❇️ - Brand risk is evolving, as is the landscape that shapes our response. From incorrect or even synthetic information in LLMs to other issues like geopolitical tensions, organizations must ensure their story is both accurate and authentic. 💯 A key quote I heard: “ambiguity really is the order of the day.” As comms pros, our role is not just to react to situations, but to help leaders focus on what truly matters and communicate with clarity. Our industry has been screaming this from the rooftops forever, but it is pleasing to see the data proves what we have always been saying: that comms is an essential part of business and deserves a bigger seat at the table. Thank you to our speakers and to everyone who joined us for such a thoughtful and engaging conversation to kick off the year! Generative AI and personality-led news are reshaping the future of journalism - and fast. A new article from the Reuters Institute underscores just how dramatically the media landscape is shifting as we head into 2026: • The creator economy’s disruption. 70% of respondents worry personality-led news is pulling time and attention away from publishers, and 39% fear losing editorial talent to creators who have more control—and often better pay. • AI as a dominant force. GenAI is changing how audiences find and consume news. “Answer engines” and AI-generated summaries are increasingly diverting attention away from original reporting and news sites. • Low industry confidence. Fewer than 40% of media leaders feel optimistic about journalism’s prospects this year, citing declining trust, political pressure, and economic strain. • Search and social referrals are falling. Publishers expect traffic from search engines to drop by roughly 43% over the next three years as platforms prioritize direct answers over clicks. • A shift in content strategy. In response, many news organizations are doubling down on original reporting, distinctive storytelling, and greater investment in video and audio to keep audiences engaged. At the same time, it’s worth noting where AI systems are sourcing their answers: Reddit threads, LinkedIn articles, and yes—old-school press releases. The media ecosystem is evolving as quickly as the technology that powers it. That means PR and marketing strategies have to evolve, too. For those of us responsible for getting company news out into the world, adapting to these changes isn’t optional. It’s what we’ve always done, and it’s what we’ll keep doing. https://lnkd.in/gRd7uuBj

Complex, unforgiving markets with the potential for crisis have elevated professional communicators to the C-suite. As evidenced in the below Wall Street Journal coverage, communications counsel has now become indispensable to executives. (one point for WSJ headliners, professional communicators are not necessarily "publicists.") #crisiscommunications #CommunicationsCounsel #publicrelations #StakeholderRelations https://lnkd.in/ghx72auR

Like lots of my comms friends, I too read Katie Deighton's very interesting story on corporate storytellers in today's The Wall Street Journal. I am all for going direct and telling your own story in a controlled way through your own channels. But I think companies overlook the "earned" media channel at their own peril. There is still an incredible power to independent third-party validation. It's difficult to quantify, which has made it just a bit passé in today's age of analytics and KPIs and OKRs. But as a simplified example, I think about all the holiday shopping I've done: I might learn about a product I'd never heard of before via an Instagram ad or the company's website (owned), but if I go look up that product and it has lousy reviews (earned), I'm not buying. Now scale that up to a complex B2B sales process like a private fund vehicle, where everyone's got a book to sell and there are so many more validation checkpoints along the way. Owned alone is not enough. There is trust in independence. I also think it is short-sighted to only want to tell your own story. The most relevant companies are not only telling their own stories, but are participating in broader dialogues that span their sector, industry, or the whole economy. To be relevant beyond your owned channels, you need to be a point on the map (big or small), and you need to connect yourself to the broader web of your customers'/clients'/stakeholders' understanding. Otherwise your "story" is going to be self-serving babble. My 2 cents -- please read for yourself! https://lnkd.in/eG9NQGfx
