Alec Sosnowski reposted thisAlec Sosnowski reposted thisWe're hiring our first Account Executive at Offstream. I've been sitting with what that actually means for a while. This isn't a role where you show up and work the inbound queue. There's no SDR handing you qualified leads. No marketing engine warming prospects before you call. You build your own pipeline, write your own sequences, and go find the deals. High ownership from day one. And honestly? That's what makes it interesting. What we're looking for: → 2–5 years of B2B sales where you sourced the deals yourself (not just worked what landed in your lap) → Comfortable in technical conversations - our buyers are project developers, not procurement → Actually AI-native (your default step 1 is in Claude) → Curious about carbon markets - this space rewards people who genuinely understand what they're selling → Ideally based in Denver or San Francisco In return, you work directly alongside me. Full visibility into pipeline, strategy, and where the product is going. There's a real path to revenue leadership as we grow. Offstream is the MRV and compliance platform for biomass carbon project developers in the US — backed by YC, trusted by dozens of developers, and working with registries like Isometric, Puro, and Rainbow. If you know someone who's been waiting for the right moment to sell into a category that actually matters, I'd love an intro. 🔗 Full Job Description: https://lnkd.in/gaFqvr7Y

Alec Sosnowski reposted thisAlec Sosnowski reposted thisWe're hiring a Customer Success Lead at Offstream. Carbon project developers are navigating some of the most complex compliance and certification requirements in any emerging market. They're building projects from scratch, often without in-house MRV expertise, and under real pressure from buyers and registries. Our next CS Lead will be the person who makes that feel manageable. This role sits at the intersection of climate science, customer relationships, and operational rigor. You'll own onboarding, retention, and expansion for a growing portfolio of biochar, biomass, and carbon capture projects and work directly with me to shape how we deliver value at the platform level. What we're looking for: → 3+ years in carbon markets — registry, ratings, broker, marketplace, or buyer side all count → Experience reviewing projects with a critical eye: where they fall short, and how to fix it → Someone who can hold a highly technical conversation and a relationship conversation in the same call → A bias for action when the path forward isn't obvious → Denver or SF preferred, remote considered Carbon markets is a small world, and the best people in it tend to know each other. If this role isn't right for you but you know someone who'd be exceptional, I'd genuinely love the introduction. Referrals mean a lot. Alec Sosnowski liked thisAlec Sosnowski liked thisDuring a very warm London Climate Action Week, we hosted a chocolate tasting with carbon buyers and fellow biochar producers. We shared the live dashboard from EcoFix Kenya Ltd (EFK), streaming production data from our recently commissioned facility in Nanyuki, so people could watch croton nut shells moving through the system and being turned into biochar. Mateo, who's setting up the facility on the ground in Kenya, was there in person with biochar he brought straight from the site. Thanks to everyone who joined us. It was encouraging to see so much interest in the operational side of scaling biochar, from facility commissioning to verification and what it takes to keep sites running day to day. #LCAW2026

Alec Sosnowski reacted on thisAlec Sosnowski reacted on thisMy pickems took a huge hit this week but honestly, so did everyone else's, so I'm choosing to feel fine about it. Germany 🇩🇪 — GERMANY — just lost their first ever penalty shootout at a World Cup. To Paraguay. The Netherlands are out on penalties too. Brazil nearly blew it to Japan before a stoppage time goal bailed them out. Canada squeaked through on a 92nd minute screamer in what was, by all accounts, a deeply uneventful match until it very suddenly wasn't. The US plays tonight. I'm not nervous. 😬 Here's what I keep coming back to: the teams still standing aren't necessarily the ones who looked best on paper coming in. France, Norway, Morocco — none of them are making it look glamorous. They're grinding. Executing when it matters. Doing the unglamorous work that the group stage didn't require. That's the CDR market right now. A lot of companies had a solid group stage — targets set, SBTi commitments made, sustainability reports published. Real progress. But the knockout question is different: when mandatory durable removal requirements land in 2035, do you have actual supply secured, or a vague plan to figure it out when it feels more urgent? The companies building durable CDR portfolios now aren't necessarily the loudest names in the room. They're the ones locking in supply, understanding what permanence actually means, not waiting for the requirements to feel urgent. Germany waited. Paraguay didn't. Alec Sosnowski liked thisAlec Sosnowski liked thisIsometric has raised $40 million in Series A financing from AVP, Plural, Lowercarbon Capital, and legendary venture investors John Doerr and Walter Kortschak. Heavy industry is back. Across manufacturing, power generation, data centers, waste management, and more—the industrial economy is seeing a resurgence. But every industrial project needs to be certified against regulatory, safety, and sustainability standards. Until now, certification involved a tradeoff: Do it fast, or do it right. Never both. Isometric is the world’s first AI-native certification company, deploying AI agents to make the certification process instant and invisible, unleashing the potential of the industrial economy. We proved it in carbon removal—where we’re now the largest certifier globally, contracted across 200+ projects by the likes of Microsoft, Anglo American, and Boeing—and are doing the same for energy, fuel, and building materials. Now we’re bringing agentic certification to the rest of the industrial economy. Richard Tyler told our story in The Times: https://lnkd.in/e_QxNsKm

Alec Sosnowski reacted on thisThe most ambitious CDR project developers are choosing Offstream. And it's starting to show. A 180,000 tonne industrial CDR offtake with Altitude. A 20,000 tonne deal with Boeing through Supercritical. A Groundbreaker of the Year Award from BBI International & Biomass Magazine. Nine project sites across five countries - in less than six months. The best projects in this space don't just issue credits. They transform the communities around them. And the teams building them can't afford to waste time, money, or momentum on tools that weren't built for this. That's why they're choosing Offstream. Less headcount. Less spend. Less time. Less risk. More speed. More certainty. More projects online. More lives transformed. Less, it turns out, really is more. ...Except when it comes to cappuccinos or pints. I'm heading to London for my first London Climate Action Week (#LCAW) 🇬🇧 - I’ll be there June 22–25. Here's where you can find me: Monday, 6/22 Carbon Removal London 2026 (hosted by Puro.earth, Supercritical, Cula Technologies, Carbon Business Council, Negative Emissions Platform & Charm Industrial) Tuesday, 6/23 Enabling Equitable Participation in Global Carbon Markets - From Access to Agency (hosted by VCM x Climate Action Platform for Africa (CAP-A); Scaling CDR Summit (hosted by Isometric) Wednesday, 6/24 From design to investment: building carbon projects that scale (hosted by BeZero Carbon); Bean to Biochar to Carbon Credit (hosted by Terraton); An Evening of Pétanque with Rainbow (hosted by Rainbow Standard) I'm keeping Thursday morning open for a proper English breakfast, and I'd love to share it with project developers who'd like to connect. Message me if that's you. 🇬🇧🍳🥓🫘 See you in London ☕🍺 emma@useoffstream.com

Industrial-scale data centers will require industrial-scale carbon removal. Meeting the scale of AI and cloud infrastructure growth will demand solutions capable of processing millions of tons of biomass, operating continuously, and rapid deployment. Looking forward to discussing why biochar is uniquely positioned to meet that challenge. #biochar #cdr

Alec Sosnowski reacted on thisAlec Sosnowski reacted on thisGreg was on a breakfast panel at Carbon Unbound East Coast this week on insetting in cocoa and coffee supply chains. Insetting requires coordination between the brand, their producers, and a technical team to put it into action. When that happens, carbon removal becomes part of how a supply chain already runs instead of a separate purchase on top. Biochar facilities work the same way. A lot of the work is assembling the right operators, financing, buyers, and technical partners, and creating a win-win for everyone involved. The Terraton-branded Dandelion Chocolate bars were, by all accounts, the highlight of the morning. #CarbonUnboundEastCoast

I just attended Peter Merholz Design Leadership training. (HI PETER) He said one thing stuck with me more than anything else: If you're trying to change everything but haven't delivered value yet, people don't take it well. (lol) And honestly? I've been that person. One of the conditions of being a designer, especially a design leader, is that you spot all the problems. You see all the things that could be better. Often to the point that most others don't even recognize them. You're clawing so desperately at your mouse and keyboard to want to fix the issues that are RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOUR FACE. But here's the trap: 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝘁𝗿𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝗼 𝗯𝗶𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗼𝗼 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹, 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆'𝘃𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲. Before they've built trust. Before they've earned credibility. You have to make it clear that you're delivering on the value expected before you're given permission to start affecting huge change. This connects to something I've talked about before: the trust/respect gap. Without trust, nothing else matters. You could be the best designer in the room, but if people don't trust you, you're invisible. If they think you're just out to help yourself? All is lost. Trust isn't built overnight. It's built through hundreds of small moments. Shipping. Delivering. Proving you understand the business. The instinct to fix everything is why you became a designer. But the discipline to earn the right to fix it? That's what makes you a leader. 💬 Ever tried to change too much too fast and had it backfire? I'd love to hear your story. 🫵

A couple weeks back I posted about the swirl product teams are stuck in right now, and the five tensions I keep seeing no matter where Design or Product sits on the org chart. I saw a lot of head nods, and more than a few people asked some version of the same thing: "Ok, you get it but what do you actually do about them?" Totally fair question but WAY too lengthy of an answer for another post or comment, so I decided to sit down and write the long answer on my blog. In the article I walk through all five tensions, how each one has shown up inside a company (as I've experienced it), and how I've tackled each over three decades of leadership. A few beliefs and lessons I share in there: why a customer should never feel a cost reduction, why "more work, smaller team" is the real story for most design teams right now (a build on a great poll from Blair Hasty), and why, as I said last time, almost none of this is ever about talent. Admittedly, it's fairly long, so if you're responsible for your company's products (regardless of your title), grab a coffee and settle in for a read. I suspect you'll recognize some of your own experiences in it. Link's in the comments. And again, if one of the five hits a little extra close, I'd love to hear which!

Design leaders — I’m curious how you think about titles. When I first joined Buildertrend, design operated more like a studio model: brought in late, asked to execute, and largely separated from product decision-making. We called it product design, but in practice it skewed heavily toward UX/UI support. Over time, I’ve landed on a simple articulation that’s helped reset expectations across product, engineering, and leadership: • UI designers care about what it looks like • UX designers care about how it works • Product designers care about solving customer problems It’s a yes-and, not a mutually exclusive choice — but the distinction has mattered. For us, “product design” signals that designers are embedded in teams, close to customers, involved early, and accountable for outcomes — not just outputs. It’s also shifted how candidates perceive us: as a product-led SaaS company where design has real influence. I’m curious how other design leaders approach this. Do titles meaningfully shape behavior in your org? Have you stayed with UX, shifted to product design, or something else entirely — and why? Would love to learn how others are navigating this.
