Albert Lilly shared thisYou may not think much about the underlying software that operates your car/truck. Until it gets recalled. If you drive a Tesla, chances are it's getting fixed over Wifi. If not (like me and many others), chances are you'll be visiting the dealer. Here at Sibros we're helping automakers take a proactive approach to detecting, responding and fixing software issues before they turn into recalls and safety concerns.Albert Lilly shared thisSoftware-related recalls skyrocketed 🚀 🚀 🚀 🚀 4X from 2023 to 2024, exposing a growing crisis in automotive software reliability. The surge, backed by National Highway Traffic Safety Administration NHTSA data, highlights a stark reality: as Software-Defined Vehicles (SDVs) become the norm, so do software failures. While these numbers reflect the U.S., emerging markets heavily investing 💰 in SDVs likely face an even greater challenge. To prevent software defects before they turn into product safety and brand nightmares, automakers must double down on proactive approaches: AI-driven vehicle data monitoring, predictive diagnostics and full-vehicle 🚗 🏍️ 🚚 🚜 OTA updates. It was great to meet so many friends and peers in person again! In a nutshell? Technology does not see a quantum leap every year, this year was more about scaling and growing options. And that is awesome, so many more electric cars & motorcycles, integrated skateboard platforms, connectivity solutions and new partnerships (like Sibros and e.GO Mobile, see pic), keep them coming, great time to be an engineer 😀

Albert Lilly liked thisAlbert Lilly liked thisOn July 1, Porsche dissolved its standalone software unit. The board seat went with it. That is the fourth major rewiring of an auto software org I can count in two years. The first generation of these units mostly got the theory right. Dedicated divisions, board-level attention, agile from day one. What was missing was leaders who had run software at scale. That experience was rare in this industry. The org charts will keep moving until the experience catches up with the theory.

Albert Lilly liked thisAlbert Lilly liked thisWhat does a Black Belt have in common with the SOP in Automotive Software? 🤔 👉 They are both frequently misinterpreted as the end of a journey, but in fact they mark the beginning of the bigger journey! 😉 Many fellow mid-40s guys buy a convertible - I decided to take on Martial Arts. 🥋 👉 On one hand because I already have 2 convertibles... well technically not really, one of them is modified to a point that it does not open, the other one does not have a roof, so neither can really be "converted". 🤣 👉 On the other hand, Martial Arts turned out ot be our perfect family sport - and our 7 year old red belt student loves the old 80s Karate movies now, so win-win! 🕺 💡 And here is the quint essence: One thing martial artists learn through their "apprenticeship", aka the color belts, is that the first degree back belt is in no way the final destination, it is actually the step over to be a real martial artists, the transition to when you start to really learn the craft. 👊 👉 Many people don't know or realize that. Kind of like SOPs in Automotive Software. 🧐

We kicked off #SAPSapphire2026 yesterday with a round at the Grand Cypress Golf Resort, and let’s just say some of our handicaps are a lot higher than our cloud migration speeds. Thanks to everyone who came out to play! Whether you were sinking birdies or spending more time in the sand and data lake, the company was top-tier! While most of us were redefining what it means to be “data lake experts” three stood out from the crowd, so huge congrats! Landon Kay was so close to the pin on the island green Hole 3 that we are checking his ball for a built-in GPS (meanwhile the surrounding lake filled up fast with our TSP-branded Callaway Super Soft golf balls!) TSPs very own John Strobel stepped up to prevent a clean sweep from the SAP sharpshooters and launched a drive so far on Hole 6 that it may still be traveling over the Atlantic. Christian Kelly came on strong and mastered the “low-latency” approach to the cup on Hole 11! For their efforts, Landon and Christian took home a hashtag #TSP-branded Precision Range Finder. Albert Lilly liked thisAlbert Lilly liked this🌟 Who actually runs the car vs. who dominates the hype? 🌟 Here are some of the hidden & emerging champions of the transformation towards software-defined vehicles and AI-defined mobility. As always, just my personal perspective. Add your hidden champions 🏅 below and reshare 🔄 with your network. 🔘 We talk a lot about the SDV-Stars like NVIDIA, Qualcomm, AAOS and other hyped companies. 🔘 Today’s focus is on hidden champions, companies that: 1️⃣) Have deep penetration across multiple OEMs / Tier-1s. 2️⃣) Are critical for SDV behaviour (software, tools, middleware, SoCs), 3️⃣) Often enable cost-efficient solutions But get little to no credit in mainstream SDV / AI hype 🔘 M&A targets: TTTech Auto, Wind River or Elektrobit were already acquired by Tier-1st semi players. Expect more to follow. --- Let’s start bottom up: Relevance of semiconductors beyond HPCs. 👉 No modern vehicle would run without semiconductors of Infineon Technologies, Texas Instruments, Renesas Electronics, NXP Semiconductors or others. 👉 Semi players must find ways to defend their legacy business & create innovations to participate in the HPC markets at the same time. --- No SDV or AI-enabled vehicle without a solid based SW layer: 👉 QNX is powering - 255 million vehicles 🚗 with safety OS & middleware for IVI, clusters, ADAS, gateways. Some OEMs used the solutions to kickstart SW platform development while creating own solutions. 👉 Companies like ETAS, Wind River, Elektrobit or Green Hills Software build the ASIL-D certified base OS, RTOS, Autosar & middleware plumbing on top of the compute layer. 👉 RTI is a prime hidden champion, delivering a DDS middleware for leading E/E architectures. --- OTA, connectivity and data management: 👉 Companies like Sonatus or Sibros are required to provide the rails in the cloud and on edge for OTA updates: data logging & collection, diagnostics, orchestration or feature activation across the portfolio. --- Cyber security is often neglected - until their is a new regulation or an incident: 👉 Upstream Security, PlaxidityX (Formerly Argus), CYMOTIVE Technologies and others provide in-vehicle or cloud ☁️ solutions to protect the vehicle fleets, cloud data and in-vehicle systems. Tool chains are enabled for DevSecOps. 👉 As the cyber security market is not growing as expected, data hubs, digital twins or AI-powered data analytics are the new narratives. The in-cabin AI hype is enabled by hidden champions: 👉 Hidden voice infrastructure: OEMs need to bring the cloud ☁️ based AI-enabled digital cockpit solutions to the vehicles. Cerence AI, iFLYTEK Co., Ltd. or SoundHound AI are the rails to enable ChatGPT, Qwen or Gemini use cases. --- Tooling & SI layer: dSPACE/AVL/NI/BTC/PikeTec/AbsInt + MHP – A Porsche Company, Luxoft, KPIT, Tata – they don’t always show up in my charts & OEM BoMs, but they can effectively dictate tech choices at OEMs. Add your hidden champions to the list! #SDV #Mobility #HiddenChampion

🚨 What Recent OEM Incidents Reveal About the SDV Shift: Over the last few months, there has been a surge in software and display-related issues across multiple OEMs. A clear sign that the industry is entering a critical phase of the SDV transition. Here’s just a sample from recent news: 🔹 Ford - Nearly 230,000 vehicles recalled due to instrument panel display failures 🔹 Toyota/Lexus - Over 600,000 vehicles recalled for dashboard display startup glitches 🔹 Stellantis (Ram) - 72,000 vehicles recalled over digital cluster software issues 🔹 Subaru & Stellantis brands - Criticism over intrusive infotainment pop-up ads appearing during driving None of these cases is about individual OEMs.They reflect a broader reality: ⛓️💥 Software complexity is outpacing the underlying vehicle architecture. 📌 Cloud dependence and feature expansion are creating new failure modes. 📌 Display and infotainment systems are becoming critical safety touchpoints. 📌 One integration gap can cascade across multiple vehicle functions. As an industry, we are building more advanced software than ever, but the foundation now needs the same level of innovation. The questions ahead are not about who has the biggest screen or most apps. They are about: 🔹 How resilient is the architecture when connectivity fails? 🔹 Can the vehicle diagnose issues instantly and locally? 🔹 Are UX flows reducing cognitive load or adding complexity? 🔹 Do compute platforms truly match SDV ambitions? The next competitive edge in mobility will come from reliability, real-time diagnostics, and resilient system design, not feature count. SDV evolution is progressing, but these signals remind us of the areas where pressure is concentrated. Addressing them collectively is how the industry moves forward. #Leadership #SoftwareDefinedVehicles #AutomotiveInnovation #VehicleArchitecture #InfotainmentSystems #InVehicleExperience #AutomotiveSoftware #RealTimeDiagnostics

In the U.S., Chinese OEMs are not “coming.” They are structuring their entry. At #NADA2026, one theme kept resurfacing in private conversations with OEM and dealer executives: The assumption that trade barriers will buy time. They won’t. Last week, Automotive News reported that Ford CEO Jim Farley discussed with Trump officials a framework allowing Chinese automakers to build cars in the U.S. via joint ventures where the American partner holds a controlling stake. This is no longer theoretical. The article makes three things clear: - Chinese OEMs are rapidly gaining share in Europe, Mexico and South America. - They combine advanced EV tech with structurally lower cost bases. - U.S. leadership openly describes this as an existential competitive threat. The conversation has shifted from “keep them out” to “under what structure do we let them in?” Now layer this with what we saw at #CES2026. Zeekr was one of the very few OEMs with a significant presence. Not a quiet observer. A statement. GEELY owns Volvo Cars. Volvo operates a plant in South Carolina. Volvo has an established U.S. dealer network. Zeekr is Geely’s premium EV brand You don’t need a dramatic scenario to see the pathway: Local manufacturing. Shared industrial footprint. Existing dealer infrastructure. Premium positioning under a politically acceptable structure. That is how market entry happens. At NADA, the most forward-thinking dealers weren’t debating if Chinese brands enter the U.S. They were debating positioning. Because once product quality converges and cost structures diverge, competition stops being purely about brand. It becomes about: – Control of distribution – Customer acquisition economics – Recurring revenue layers – Service and mobility integration The U.S. market is not insulated. It is being recalibrated. The only real question is who adapts their model before the shift becomes visible in their P&L.

Last week at CES I released my latest white paper, “Unlocking Additional Income: A New Kind of $AI for OEMs.” While the jury is still out on whether consumers are willing to pay for the technology and features from the software-defined vehicle, commercial fleets have depended on data for years to run their businesses. The types of data signals that fleets need (and have demonstrated a willingness to pay for) are much more granular than the standard “phone app” data many OEMs collect for consumer use. Chapter 1: The Value Proposition of Fleet Data Chapter 2: The Monetization Blueprint Chapter 3: Build or Buy Technology? Chapter 4: Partnering for $AI: Three Key Opportunities for OEMs Chapter 5: Delivering on the Promise of $AI If you’d like to receive a copy, message me with your email address. #CES2026 #AIforOEMs #FleetData #MonetizationStrategy #SoftwareDefinedVehicles #DataDrivenBusiness
