Brent Daniel reposted thisBrent Daniel reposted thisThe Growth Paradox The best way to scale and improve any one thing is not through addition, but through subtraction. illustration by me (a human 😊) I started this summer with a stupid mistake of trying to aim at 3 big goals at the same time: 1) start writing a book 2) go all-in on YouTube 3) build something for the 500+ alumni of Thinking in Visual Metaphors. And didn’t make significant progress on any of them. There’s only so many nutrients in the soil. Time, effort, focus. Spread them out and you might get a bunch of sprouts. But not nearly enough for any of them to bear fruit. -- By the way, if you're new here I create visual metaphors like these as friendly reminders to live a more creative life. And if that's your vibe, check out more of my favorite visuals in my free Visual IDEAs newsletter: https://lnkd.in/gh7wvsmz

Brent Daniel reposted thisBrent Daniel reposted thisThe bravest thing an employee can do right now is ask for help. The second bravest thing? Being the leader who makes it safe. Mental health at work is not a benefits package. It is not a wellness app. Nor is it a green ribbon in May. It is the moment a team member says "I'm struggling" and their manager responds with curiosity instead of concern about performance. We need to create a culture where a person with ADHD does not spend half their cognitive energy masking just to survive a meeting. Employees need to experience a nervous system signal that says: “You are safe here’ As a physician and two-time Chief Wellness Officer, I can tell you this clearly: When people feel psychologically safe, the brain shifts out of threat mode. Creativity returns. Focus sharpens. Performance follows. Mental Health and wellness are no longer “benefits and perks.” Creating a culture where whole-person wellness and psychological safety is embedded into systems and operations creates a competitive advantage. Mental Health Awareness Month ended. Our work as leaders is just beginning. You are not alone. I see you. I hear you. I believe in you. Brent Daniel liked thisBrent Daniel liked thisThe Power of Training One of the most powerful moments to witness during a training project is the moment a team emotionally shifts, and they genuinely believe in what they’re building together. Recently, MDA Hospitality had the opportunity to support the journey of Belle & Grey at The Hotel Landing in Wayzata, Minnesota through an intensive multi-day onsite training focused on service standards, menu education, wine and cocktail knowledge, mock service execution, and overall guest experience strategy. Throughout the week, there were long days, evolving processes, and an entirely new service approach being introduced. By the final mock services, confidence had noticeably grown. Team members who were initially hesitant were participating more openly, engaging in deeper conversations, sharpening their service language, and beginning to fully understand the “why” behind the experience they were creating. That’s the power of intentional leadership and training. When people feel supported, they become more confident. When they feel invested in, they become more engaged. When they understand the vision, they become empowered to bring it to life. Special thanks to the entire Belle & Grey team for embracing the process so fully and allowing us to be part of such an exciting chapter for the concept. If you ever find yourself visiting Minneapolis, take a quick trip to Wayzata and make sure Belle & Grey is part of your experience. The passion, care, and intentionality this team is building is something special. When you visit, tell them the MDA team said hello! #Hospitality #LeadershipDevelopment #GuestExperience #RestaurantOperations #EmployeeExperience #HospitalityTraining #CultureMatters #BrandExperience #MDAHospitality

Brent Daniel liked thisBrent Daniel liked thisHonored doesn't even begin to cover it. 💙🐺 I'm incredibly grateful to have been recognized as Great Wolf Lodge Mashantucket's Q2 Pack Leader of the Quarter! Two years ago, I walked into Great Wolf Lodge with big dreams, a pink résumé, and absolutely no idea where this journey would take me. During my first week at the corporate office, we were asked to write a letter to our future selves describing where we saw ourselves in two years. For some reason—and I still can't explain why—I wrote Connecticut. At the time, I had never been to the East Coast. I didn't know anyone there, and I had no idea why I wrote that. Not long after, I met Amanda Spoor who would become my very first leader. She challenged me every single day, pushed me outside my comfort zone, and, truthfully, put me through the wringer—in all the best ways. She taught me that great leadership isn't about being comfortable; it's about constantly growing. Around three months into my Great Wolf journey, I earned the nickname Sparkles. Not because everything was easy, but because no matter how tough the day was or how much I still had to learn, I was smiling, laughing, and excited for the next challenge. That nickname has stuck with me ever since, and I still try to bring that same energy into every shift. When Amanda accepted a position in Connecticut, saying goodbye was one of the hardest moments of my early career. She had invested so much in me, and I wasn't ready to lose that mentor. So when I was offered the opportunity to task force at her new lodge, I jumped at the chance. I was excited to learn from her again. What I didn't expect was for that task force assignment to completely change my career. I didn't just reconnect with an incredible leader—I met a Guest Services team that was hungry to learn, eager to grow, and ready to build something special together. Somewhere between fixing kiosks, checking guests in, and selling Wolf Passes, I fell in love with this team. I've now had the privilege of working at three different lodges and every pack member I've worked alongside has molded me into the leader I am today. Leadership, to me, has never been about having all the answers. It's about believing in people before they believe in themselves, celebrating every win, learning from every mistake, and creating a place where people can laugh and have fun. To my pack: thank you for trusting me, making me laugh, and reminding me every day why I love what I do. Watching each of you grow has been the greatest privilege. To every leader who has invested in me over the last two years—thank you for believing in me, challenging me, and encouraging me to keep going. And to the girl who wrote “Connecticut" in a letter to her future self... thank you for dreaming big. Here's to continuing to learn, continuing to grow, and always finding new ways to Bring Joy to Families.🐾✨ #GreatWolfLodge #BringJoyToFamilies
