Glenn Mazade shared thisMost of us have heard the story many times before, but it never gets old and still sends chills up my spine when I read it. What would each of us do in the face of a choice like this? What unbelievable heroism and courage. This is what it means to be an American. We should make sure all current and future generations know this.Glenn Mazade shared thisOn the morning of September 11, 2001, Tom Burnett made four phone calls that would forever be remembered as some of the most powerful moments of that tragic day. A senior vice president, devoted husband, and father of three young daughters, Burnett was aboard United Airlines Flight 93 when he realized the hijacking was part of a coordinated terrorist attack. During his conversations with his wife, Deena, he learned that two other passenger jets had already been deliberately flown into the World Trade Center. Understanding the gravity of the situation, he calmly told her, "I know we're going to die." Then he added the words that would define his legacy: "Some of us are going to do something about it." Instead of giving in to fear, Burnett helped rally the passengers. Using the information he received from Deena, he worked with others on board to understand what was happening and organize a plan to fight back. He urged his wife to contact authorities and share everything he had learned, determined that their final moments might help save countless lives. His last phone call was heartbreakingly brief. "We're going to rush the hijackers," he told Deena. "I love you. I love the girls. I'll call you back." It was the final time she heard his voice. At 10:03 a.m., United Airlines Flight 93 crashed into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Investigators concluded that the passengers' courageous resistance prevented the hijackers from reaching their intended target, believed to have been either the U.S. Capitol or the White House. Tom Burnett's final hour was defined not by fear, but by extraordinary courage, selfless leadership, and unwavering love for his family. Together with his fellow passengers and crew, he proved that ordinary people can rise to meet unimaginable circumstances with remarkable bravery. Their sacrifice remains one of the enduring symbols of heroism on September 11, 2001-a reminder that true courage is measured not by the absence of fear, but by the decision to stand against it when everything is at stake.

Glenn Mazade shared thisTo all, this Valor to Venture Gala is a great opportunity to assist veterans that have given so much for our way of life. Veteran Business Project has worked with an increasing number of military veterans to align them with businesses to acquire. Attending this event will help VBP continue and expand their valuable programs beneficial to veterans and you'll be able to hear from some of the veterans that have gone through their programs and successfully acquired businesses. And, this will be a great opportunity to meet with the Co-Founders, Lynn Lowder and Dale Eisenberg, meet some of the Board Members and, of course, meet many veterans. I hope you consider attending and supporting VBP.Glenn Mazade shared thisWe’re excited to announce the 3rd Annual Valor to Venture Gala, happening Thursday, October 29, at Hotel Arista in Naperville, IL. Your evening of cocktails, dinner, and a live auction will directly help veteran entrepreneurs. You can now reserve sponsorships, tables, or individual tickets: https://hubs.ly/Q04wJJfT0

Glenn Mazade shared thisI'm so pleased that we have this phenomenal cultural and natural resource in our region, The Morton Arboretum. What a great venue to host some family members that came to town. We enjoyed a perfect day on Saturday spending time in nature with The Champion of Trees! A ride on the Acorn Express Tram gave us a full perspective of the vast natural ecosystem there of over 1,700 acres. This is a perfect time of the year to go and enjoy nature and see some of the great work being done there. Oh, and get some pictures at the Vivid Creatures exhibits. I finally got to see Spectra up close, after seeing it hundreds of times driving down I-88!

Glenn Mazade shared thisSo devastated to hear of the passing of my longtime friend and former colleague over many of those years, SEAN PATRICK DURKIN. I first worked with Sean while at Fifth Third Bank in Chicago as one of the first members of our Public Funds Team. I then followed him to Charter One Bank and he was the first colleague on our Illinois Government Banking Team in Chicago. Sean was very much loved and respected by colleagues at these banks. You always knew when Sean was in the room, he was larger than life, and very much enjoyed life, and was always bringing Gavin and Avery in tow when he could. He was a dedicated colleague and public servant too, serving in Darien, Downers Grove and most recently, Woodridge. Despite not working together over the past 14 or so years, we would still see each other in the many communities at events and activities, he was everywhere! I know he loved Lite beer but also loved his public service and being able to work with and help government entities with their banking needs. I have no idea how many conferences he attended over the years, but it was a lot. I also know he enjoyed his time at MB Financial Bank and again at Fifth Third Bank but was ecstatic when he received the offer to join Wintrust Bank almost 3 years ago. I am heartbroken over his loss and offer my sincerest condolences to Kelly Durkin, Gavin, Avery and his entire family. RIP dear friend.

Glenn Mazade shared thisI attended the Cantigny Revolutionary War reenactment event over the weekend with family and was very impressed with the full schedule of events and activities for the whole family. This was done in collaboration with the North West Territory Alliance and in celebration of America250. The day was filled with activities including battle reenactments, spy school, artillery salute, fife and drum corps, Ben Franklin Reenactor, reading of the Declaration of Independence and so many other activities. This was a wonderful weekend of education and history as we approach Independence Day in the USA. I hope everyone is able to participate in the many events in celebration of America250 in 2026!

Glenn Mazade shared thisIt was great reconnecting with Donovan Pepper over breakfast, with a purpose, at Rosie's Home Cookin in Naperville, supporting the Veteran Business Project. Very fortunate too that we were able to see Lynn Lowder there. 2 hours wasn't enough with Donovan, but it was great to find time to fit in his calendar, and we did have enough time for a quick selfie!

Glenn Mazade shared thisTo my LinkedIn network, let me introduce you to my niece, Nicole Mazade Francis. I know there are opportunities out there that can fit into Nicole's work experiences and passion for relationship building and client engagement. I'm hoping you will consider Nicole by reaching out to her directly for any open opportunities or suggestions. Thanks very much.Glenn Mazade shared thisI never thought I would still be job searching nearly a year later… but here I am. Another honest update from me. Earlier this year, I shared a vulnerable post about my job search and what happened with the role I briefly landed before being laid off. Some of you reached out with encouragement, advice, and connections. To those who did — thank you. It truly meant a lot during a very difficult time. Unfortunately, I’m still searching. This has been one of the hardest professional seasons of my life. I’ve worked for over 20 years, and I’ve never experienced this level of difficulty finding the right role. There have been many applications, conversations, interviews, and moments of hope that ultimately didn’t work out. It’s been humbling. Frustrating. And at times, incredibly discouraging. But I’m still here. And I’m still trying. What I know for certain is that my career has always been about people, relationships, and experiences. Whether through events, partnerships, sales, or client engagement, the work I’ve loved most has always centered around bringing people together and helping businesses build meaningful relationships with their clients and communities. The role I would truly love is one where I can lead or coordinate events and meetings for a company — creating thoughtful experiences that strengthen relationships and support business growth. Right now I’m actively seeking a full-time remote or hybrid role, ideally (base)$85K+, where I can bring my experience in: • Events & meetings • Business development • Client engagement • Relationship management • Strategic partnerships If you know of an opportunity, a company hiring, or someone I should connect with, I would be incredibly grateful. Even sharing this post helps more than you know. 📧 Email: nmazade@gmail.com 📱 Call/Text: 321-271-1448 Thank you for reading and for any support along the way. I’m ready for the next chapter. Throughout our long history we have reached out to help the young and old, unemployed and working poor, long-time citizens and new immigrants and those challenged by changing economics, troubled relationships, inadequate education and mental health issues. We’ve supported them with financial aid, counseling, education and legal services. But most of all, we have bolstered the strength that lies within each person, provided hope for a brighter future and helped individuals and families reclaim their dignity and purpose.
Today Metropolitan Family Services assists more than 93,000 families and individuals annually through seven community centers in Chicago, Evanston/Skokie, the southwest suburbs and DuPage County. Those served are as diverse as the communities in which they live, with 81% being part of the working poor or lower-middle class. -

Today, we’re sharing an important moment with our members and close partners. After 75 years of serving Michiganders, on January 27, 2026, Community Financial Credit Union is becoming orsa credit union. This change is driven by clarity. “Community” shows up everywhere, and that reality has created confusion for the very people we exist to serve. Names matter when trust matters. So does doing this work thoughtfully. In this video, Board Chair Teri Kuehn and our president & ceo share: • why this change was necessary • how it honors our history rather than replaces it • what orsa represents — strength, guidance, and protection • what will never change: our people, our care, and our purpose This is not a departure. It’s an evolution. We’re proud of where we’ve been. We’re clear about where we’re going. And we’re grateful to the members, team, and partners who continue to walk with us. Watch the video and join us as we step into our next chapter. #orsa #creditunions #leadership #governance #purpose #brandwithmeaning #75years
