It's only day three of Hanukkah, and already we've seen: 1. Jews murdered by a jihadi father-son duo in Australia that seriously wounded many people, including my friend Arsen Ostrovsky (thinking of you, brother). 2. Students at Brown University were murdered in a class being taught by Rachel Friedberg, a Jewish professor who leads the school's Judaic Studies program. 3. A Jewish professor of nuclear physics at M.I.T. was murdered in his home today. 4. Orthodox Jews in New York were violently assaulted on the subway. 5. Violent Palestinian protestors disrupted a peaceful Hanukkah celebration in Amsterdam. Dozens were arrested after police had to physically surround families celebrating the holiday to protect them. 6. A Jewish family in California had their home hit by gunfire because they had Hanukkah decorations up. One of the criminals shouted, "Free Palestine." 7. An Islamic terrorist attack has been foiled in Poland at a Christmas market. 8. An Islamic terrorist attack has been foiled in Germany at a Christmas market. 9. A Palestinian terrorist attack was foiled in California. 10. France has cancelled its NYE celebrations because of the terrorist threat level. 11. Canada's Integrated Terrorism Assessment Centre has said that a terrorist attack in Canada is now "a realistic possibility." I've been studying terrorism for 20 years, and I've never seen things this bad. The West is under attack – full stop. The question now is, what the hell are we going to do about it?

Hugh Pham posted this50 Years Later: Reflections on the Vietnamese-American Journey Today marks the 50th anniversary of the Fall of Saigon and the beginning of the Vietnamese-American exodus. As I reflect on this milestone, I'm filled with profound gratitude for two groups: First, to our Vietnamese elders—those brave souls who sacrificed everything. Many perished at sea, in jungles or in refugee camps, never reaching the shores of freedom they sought for their children. Those who survived carried with them not just their families, but their dreams, traditions, and resilience. Second, to America, our second homeland. Every time "The Star-Spangled Banner" plays, I stand - tears down my face. In 1975, as a frightened 17-year-old boy from Vietnam, I witnessed this magnificent nation and its children open not just its doors but its heart to me and thousands like me. Today, my family embodies America's most beautiful promise—the great melting pot that makes us stronger. Our family gatherings are a tapestry of America itself: my Vietnamese roots now blossoming into a family tree whose branches embrace every corner of this great nation. Through love, marriage, and the grace of God, our family has grown into a beautiful mosaic of colors, cultures, faiths, and traditions—each member free to pursue their highest aspirations, limited only by their own determination. Each holiday table tells America's story: chả giò beside pasta, tamales next to corned beef, all served with a side of boundless opportunity. My family tree, once threatened with destruction, now flourishes in the soil of liberty, growing stronger with each new addition to our American family. After 50 years, our duty is clear: to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice during our exodus, to cherish our elders still with us, and to continue the work of America's founders—helping this nation flourish for generations to come. While I was born Vietnamese, I will die an American—and my descendants will forever be born into this magnificent legacy of freedom. To the country that not only saved a refugee boy but gave him equal footing to pursue every dream: you will forever be the shining city on the hill.

Feminists cannot bring themselves to denounce Hamas’ mass rape of women, with UN Women taking seven weeks to publish an Instagram post condemning Hamas’ barbarity – and then deleting it within moments, replaced with a toned down version calling for an investigation into “reports of gender-based violence”…. "It is the leap from “Israel must change” to “Israel must die” that reveals the toxicity at the heart of the Free Palestine movement. As a non-Jewish friend said to me this week: “When I criticise Indian policy in Kashmir, no one seriously thinks that India shouldn’t exist or should be destroyed.” “Criticising Israeli policies and politicians is not antisemitic. Denying Jewish indigeneity to the land and considering the entire country an occupation is.” _____________________________ We know Israel is far from perfect and there is much room for improvement in all spheres of life in the country I live in and love, but we simply don’t hate others the they hate us … this is true of the Jewish people more broadly and this was evident to anyone who took the most basic look between the marches held in London over recent weekends. As Golda Meir beautifully described our greatest strength and possibly weakness in this video clip she is also quoted as saying peace will only come when our “enemy values the lives of their children more than they hate us.” I pray for peace but it will only come when the blind hatred fanned by an education system which reinforces it ends. I personally mourn for innocent Gazan casualties and pray that the Arab world will learn to accept a neighbour in its midst (as looked like it was happening before 7th October). She had just watched a humanoid robot doing complex gymnastics and asked: “When can you send me a robot to help with housework?” A fair question. If a robot can do backflips, cleaning a home should be easy, right? Not really. What robots find “hard” and “easy” doesn’t match human intuition. Just as what we observed in LLM: models can solve Olympiad-level math that many PhDs struggle with, yet still fail at counting how many “r”s in “strawberry”. We assume machines will evolve like us, but remember Silicon and Carbon play by different rules. Their weaknesses may be our strengths, and our strengths their weaknesses. My belief is robotics will follow a similar path: first robots excel at tasks humans don’t do well; then move toward tasks humans can do well but simply don’t enjoy doing. That’s the path we’re taking at Anyware Robotics — starting with heavy-duty work and expanding from there. My mom’s robot housekeeper will come someday. Just not yet.

Film them laughing. Not posing. Laughing. That footage will be priceless when the house gets quiet. Take a photo with them doing absolutely nothing. The ordinary ones hurt the most when they become memories. Ask them to write their name on paper. Keep it. Handwriting is the most personal thing that disappears. Photograph their hands. Those hands built everything you are. ASK THEM “What was the happiest day of your life?" Their answer will likely surprise you. “What did you dream of becoming before life happened?" They had dreams too. “What's the hardest thing you never told me about?" Their silence carried weight so your childhood wouldn't. “How did you and mom/dad fall in love?" You exist because of a love story you've never fully heard. FEEL WITH THEM Cook their favorite meal together. Not for them. With them. Watch their favorite old movie together. Let them narrate it. Their commentary is the real film. Sit with them in silence. No phone. No TV. Just presence. They don't need your conversation. They need your company. Hold their hand for no reason. They held yours when you couldn't walk. Return the gesture. Hug them longer than usual. Count to 20. That's not a hug. That's a timestamp. EXPERIENCE WITH THEM Take them to the place they grew up. Watch their eyes become young again. Go for a slow walk together. Match their pace. The world looks different at their speed. Drive them somewhere special. Surprise your parents. They spent decades surprising you. Eat at the restaurant they went to on their first date. Some places hold love beyond Google reviews. Travel with them once. Before their body says no. The trip doesn't have to be fancy. It has to happen. GIVE THEM Write them a letter by hand. Not a birthday card. A real letter. Words they'll read when you're not in the room. Say "thank you for everything" and mean it. Tell them you're proud of them. Children never say this. But parents need to hear it too. Apologize for the years you didn't understand them. You were young. Tell them you love them today. Not on a holiday. Not on their birthday. Today. HONOR THEM Learn their recipe. The one they make from memory. Write it down. Frame a photo of them from when they were your age. They were young once. They had dreams. Ask them to teach you one thing they're good at. Let them feel needed. That feeling disappears as kids grow up. Introduce them to your world. Your music. Your friends. Your dreams. Let them see who you became because of them. Put your phone down and go sit next to them. Because one day you'll walk into the room and the chair will be empty. The phone will never ring from that number again. And you'll wish more than anything in this world that you could have one more ordinary boring meaningless day with them. Today is that day. Don't waste it.

Obsidian Insurance Holdings, Inc Increases Surplus to Support Growth and Opportunities. Obsidian Insurance Holdings, Inc. ("Obsidian"), the holding company for Obsidian Specialty Insurance Company, Obsidian Insurance Company, and Obsidian Pacific Insurance Company, has increased surplus in its writing companies raising capital through a successful senior notes issuance and additional capital investment from its existing equity holders, including Genstar Capital. Obsidian's business continued to expand in 2025 with expected total gross written premium to exceed $1 billion. Strong growth has come from Obsidian's existing relationships as well as new programs onboarded during 2025. With Obsidian's underwriting and operationally focused business model, programs are supported by a diverse panel of over 200 reinsurers. To support this growth, Obsidian issued $40 million in 8% senior unsecured notes due November 15, 2030. The notes received a long term credit rating of "BBB-" from Kroll Bond Rating Agency. In addition, Obsidian received an additional $30 million from its existing shareholders. Obsidian's group capital and surplus now stands at $131.65 million. "Since our inception five and a half years ago, Obsidian has become a leading program carrier with a keen focus on underwriting profitability, operational excellence, and the establishment of strong and enduring relationships with our MGA and reinsurer partners. This additional capital will fuel and support continued profitable growth in the years ahead. We are very appreciative of all of our partners and stakeholders that have contributed to our success."
