Ken Paradis shared thisAs you know, Medicare Set Asides are designed to protect the Medicare Trust Fund, not create extra benefits for the estate after the claimant’s death. So how do you recover those dollars “set aside” for Medicare—not the claimant’s estate--because the claimant dies before their life expectancy and/ or the cost of services required for CMS approval was excessive during their lifetime (~40% overpriced on average). Reversionary refunds--sometimes called reversionary interests-- are the answer! As this quick, one-page summary details, there are two primary options with structures or professional administration. There is even a third option that combines both services. Imagine reducing the cost of the MSA upfront by 38% and then recovering on the unused claimant benefits “set aside” for Medicare and never used or exhausted. Pretty impressive, right? Structures are the only way you can save on the front end and ensure recovery of your reversionary refund. One of the most important aspects of delivering an exceptional customer experience is ensuring customers reach the right team the first time they contact Walmart. That requires strong partnerships, clear communication, and a deep understanding of how different areas of the business work together to serve our customers. I was thrilled to have the opportunity to provide greater insight into who we are at Walmart Claims Services, the work we do, and how our teams support customers during some of their most challenging moments. By helping our CES partners better understand our processes and needs, we strengthen our collective ability to create seamless experiences and connect customers to the right resources more efficiently. The engagement and shared commitment to customer care demonstrated throughout the summit were inspiring. This program strengthened my understanding of how organizations can create long-term value by balancing business performance with environmental and social responsibility. It also reinforced something I believe deeply as a leader: sustainability is not just a separate initiative, it is a mindset that should shape how we make decisions, manage resources, serve customers, and lead teams. Tutor Emily Langston opened that evening's seminar by reading a passage about Dante seeking freedom, and then asked the room a deceptively simple question: In what sense is he free? And has his understanding of freedom changed? “The students opened their marked-up paperbacks, flipping pages as they considered the questions. There was not a laptop or a cell phone in sight. Then they began an increasingly rare activity on college campuses today. They discussed, for more than two hours, a complicated work and the deeper questions it presents.” McMurtrie also spoke with multiple Johnnies and tutors, weaving their reflections throughout the resulting profile while exploring how the college's Great Books-based pedagogy has become a model for other institutions—and how a time-tested classical education can be revolutionary in modern times.
