Jill McCarthy shared thisSmall businesses are the backbone of New York’s economy and make up 98.9% of all businesses in NY. When small business owners have a seat at the table, they don’t just talk about policy change — they drive it. This National Small Business Week, Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Voices was honored to host nearly 100 business owners from across the state of New York to join us in Albany and New York City to meet with state and local policymakers to ensure their voices are heard. In Albany, business owners met with State Assembly members and Senators, and heard from Hope Knight, President, CEO, and Commissioner of Empire State Development. Additionally, the New York State Senate and Assembly formally recognized the impact of the 10,000 Small Businesses avoices initiative with a special proclamation and resolution. The momentum continued with NY City Council meetings and dynamic fireside chats moderated by Goldman Sachs leadership with Congressman Ritchie Torres, NYC Council Speaker Julie Menin, NYC Department of Small Business Services Assistant Commissioner Sherri Lane, and New York State Department of Lanor Commissioner Roberta Reardon. I want to thank our speakers for their insights and for giving small businesses a seat at the table to discuss the policy issues that affect them the most. I also want to thank the small businesses owners who took the time away from your businesses to share your perspectives. Your voice matters!

Jill McCarthy shared thisAs part of the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses 2025 Summit, it was an honor to host 2,200 small businesses in Washington, DC for the largest gathering of small business owners in the U.S. Despite a government shutdown, business owners went to Capitol Hill to meet with their representatives in Congress to discuss what small businesses need to grow: access to affordable capital, workforce development support, AI adoption resources, and manufacturing infrastructure. These aren't lobbyists or policy experts - they're entrepreneurs who employ their neighbors, serve their communities, and understand firsthand how policy decisions affect Main Street America. They're bringing real-world expertise directly to the policymakers whose decisions shape their future. This is what small business advocacy looks like: thousands of business owners, from nearly every state and industry, united by shared challenges and committed to being part of the solution. #10KSBSummit

Jill McCarthy shared thisGoldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses’ recent survey results are here and one key theme shines through: small business owners are optimistic, but policymakers must take action to help them succeed. Small business owners continue to face persistent challenges—from job creation and hiring to access to capital to lacking the resources to properly implement AI. To help address these challenges, small business owners identified five top areas Small Business Administration should focus on in this new Administration: - Increase to affordable capital (50%) - Decrease the regulatory burden and cut red tape for small businesses (47%) - Support more workforce development and training (34%) - Modernize communication systems and technology (34%) - Increase small business procurement goals and accountability (32%) This survey reveals that a strong majority (69%) of small businesses are optimistic about their financial future in 2025, with 78% planning business growth. Now it’s up to Washington to address the concerns and challenges that could potentially halt it. Read the full survey results here: https://lnkd.in/gTRumJhv

Jill McCarthy shared thisIt’s #marchmadness and Goldman Sachs teamed up with small business owners and Iowa’s Caitlin Clark and UNC’s Caleb Love in an NIL ad focused on reauthorizing the Small Business Administration. Watch it here:Jill McCarthy shared thisDid you know that the Small Business Administration hasn’t been reauthorized since before most of the college athletes playing in this year’s NCAA Tournament were born? It’s been 23 years. For March Madness, Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Voices teamed up with University of Iowa women’s basketball player Caitlin Clark and University of North Carolina men’s basketball player Caleb Love in what is believed to be the first name, image and likeness (NIL) ad to advocate for federal policy. Caitlin and Caleb are both juniors – and neither was born the last time the SBA was reauthorized by Congress. Watch the ad here: https://lnkd.in/eu6H3UfB

It has also been 23 years since the Small Business Administration (SBA) was reauthorized by Congress. Jill McCarthy liked thisJill McCarthy liked thisA shift is underway. The question is who will seize it. At the Fast Company Innovation Festival, I joined Julianne Pepitone for a conversation about how Al is reshaping what is possible for small businesses: helping them overcome the “size gap” they often pay in time, expertise, and missed opportunities. But technology alone is not the differentiator. The businesses that thrive will be the ones whose leaders foster curiosity, encourage experimentation, and help their teams learn faster than the pace of change. Thank you to Julianne Pepitone and Fast Company for a thoughtful conversation about what it will take for small businesses to lead in the Al economy. Watch the conversation and join us in exploring how leaders can turn rapid technological change into opportunity. Opening our doors to show the possibilities for another career path outside of the traditional college track is exciting to us. Baking is a trade with so many levels of opportunity! Thank you Macomb County for helping elevate manufacturing in the eyes of youth and for allowing us to be an enthusiastic partner. Cheers to another year in the books! 🎉 #MFGDay26 #MacombCounty #ManufacturingDay #MadeInMacombJill McCarthy liked thisFour years of Manufacturing Day at Ethel’s! 🍪 We were proud to participate in Manufacturing Day for the fourth year in a row, welcoming students from Romeo High School’s Culinary Program for a behind-the-scenes look at food manufacturing. Students had the opportunity to explore the many steps that go into bringing our gluten-free desserts from our bakery to store shelves—from the kitchen and packaging to Quality Assurance and R&D. Manufacturing is about so much more than making a product. It takes creativity, innovation, teamwork, problem-solving, and people with a passion for what they do. We’re grateful for the opportunity to give students a firsthand look at the food manufacturing industry and introduce them to the wide range of career paths available. Thank you to the Romeo High School Culinary students and teachers for spending the day with us! We hope you left with a new perspective on where a career in food can take you. 👏 #MFGDay26 #MacombCounty #ManufacturingDay #MadeInMacomb #Baking

The milestone places PierFerd among only five firms in recent U.S. law firm history with more than 100 attorneys to achieve more than 30% headcount growth in a single year. The Firm reached this milestone through consistent Partner appointments and continued expansion across key practice areas and jurisdictions throughout 2026. This month, PierFerd welcomed five new Partners: April Bott joins in Columbus, Ohio as a Partner in the Litigation department, bringing decades of experience in environmental, energy, natural resources, mining, construction, and real estate matters. "Surpassing 300 Partners is an important milestone for PierFerd," said Co-Chairman Joel Ferdinand. Jill McCarthy reacted on thisJill McCarthy reacted on thisSome exciting news over here. Starting today, I'll be serving as Interim CEO of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) while the Board runs its search for the organization's next permanent leader. I'm not a candidate for the role, and my focus during this period is simple: helping the team at the CFDA feel supported and steady, and making sure the organization's work — for its designers, its members, this whole community — keeps moving without interruption. It is also important to know that my future remains at Artemis Strategies and my work there continues during this period. The fashion industry has been part of my life for well over a decade and during that time the CFDA has always stood for something real: supporting American designers and strengthening the industry that is the engine of creativity in America. I'm honored the Board asked me to step in, and I'm looking forward to the work ahead.

Jill McCarthy reacted on thisJill McCarthy reacted on thisMy wife, Hildy Kuryk has been named interim CEO of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) , while continuing as a partner at Artemis Strategies. Not long after we met, she was working for then-Senator Obama. She understood exactly what was at stake in getting him elected president, and she never let that weight keep her from grinding out the details, making sure everything was as it should be. That's still how she works. Hildy leads from the front. She won't ask anyone to do something she hasn't done or wouldn't do herself. She cares about people and about legacy, and she's willing to question the things everyone else stopped questioning a long time ago. As far as I know, she's the only person on the planet to have worked directly for both Barack Obama and Anna Wintour. Two very different worlds, two famously high standards, and she earned the trust of both. So proud of you, Hil.

A new article from Sarah Aryanpur Burgess in diginomica looks at how ALLO Communications is helping connect Midwestern communities to an AI-enabled future. The piece is a useful reminder that the AI economy is not only about software and models. It also depends on the physical networks that allow businesses, schools, and households to access cloud platforms, data services, and emerging AI tools. What stands out in the story is how ALLO combines fiber infrastructure with Calix’s platform and managed services to run its network and deliver modern customer experiences. The approach reflects a broader shift happening across the telecom sector. Providers are moving beyond simply delivering connectivity and are using platforms like Calix, purpose‑built for communications service providers—unifying cloud, data, AI, and managed services, to simplify operations, personalize experiences, and drive sustainable growth for their communities. ALLO’s leadership sees AI as the next step in that evolution. As CEO Brad Moline explains in the article, the challenge now is making the most of the opportunities AI creates for service providers. That is where industry moves such as the transition from Communications Service Providers (CSPs) to Communications Experience Providers (CXPs) and AI-native platforms like Calix One become important. The real opportunity is not just faster networks. It is using AI and software platforms to transform their business models for the AI era and deliver better customer experiences to the communities they serve. https://lnkd.in/eWsuUy8h

Wall Street is still performing well but the economic headwinds for Main Street are building as this Reuters piece observes. https://lnkd.in/eXQjn7Ub Besides the obvious managerial decisions your leadership team must prepare to make, the question arises: What do your partners, vendors, lenders, employees, and other stakeholders want to know about your readiness and ability to handle the likely volatility ahead? When you game through your business plan, don't neglect the communications component. The best plan in the world isn't very good if these critical audiences don't understand it and have confidence in your ability to execute it.
