Brian Rudolph shared thisAs a longtime listener of How I Built This with Guy Raz, it was such a cool life experience to be on the podcast and share the Banza origin story. We chatted chickpeas (obviously), reality TV, and building a business with a sibling (hi Scott) Thank you Guy Raz and team for having me! https://lnkd.in/gKWhf5DABanza: Brian Rudolph. Brian Rudolph shared thisSeeing a Banza orange version of this iconic packaging is still hard to believe Banza is proud to be included in the first ever gluten free version of Campbell's Chicken Noodle Soup. The The Campbell's Company team did an incredible job bringing this to life. Thank you Alex Fein, Rebecca Duke, Molly Doyle and the many others who made it happen!

Brian Rudolph shared thisFor 12 years, Banza's products have been gluten free. Today we're launching a product that contains wheat. That might sound like a contradiction. Especially coming from a founder who is gluten free! But even though our products are gluten free, most of our customers aren't. In fact, we only recently added the gluten free claim to the front of our chickpea pasta packaging, and it was mainly in anticipation of this launch. Chickpeas are one of the healthiest foods you can eat, and Americans don't eat enough of them. That's why we started Banza. But there are a lot of people who will never give up wheat, and we'd rather get chickpeas into their bowl than not reach them at all. Our new Wheat & Chickpea Protein Pasta blends semolina wheat and chickpeas for 22g of protein. It tastes like semolina pasta. Because it is semolina pasta. For our gluten free community: our existing products are not changing. Same recipes, same facilities, same standards. This new line is made in a separate facility with packaging designed to make it immediately clear it contains wheat. Believe me, you have a man on the inside! This is the biggest expansion of Banza's mission since we started. Even if I can't eat it, I couldn't be more proud of it.

Brian Rudolph reposted thisBrian Rudolph reposted thisOn November 1st, millions of Americans lost access to their SNAP benefits. Food banks across the country are seeing unprecedented demand, with some saying supplies could run out within weeks. We’re donating over 27,000 boxes of pasta and mac & cheese to food banks across the U.S., including Feeding America’s Riverside/San Bernardino branch which is home to our owned and operated factory. We’re grateful to organizations that are working around the clock to get people the meals they need. If you’d like to join us in supporting them, visit FeedingAmerica.org/find to find your local food bank.

Brian Rudolph shared thisI’m excited to share Banza's latest and greatest: our take on brown rice pasta. When we created the first ever chickpea pasta, it was a health first decision. Beans are one of the healthiest foods you can eat, and Americans don’t eat enough of them. By turning chickpeas into pasta, we helped bridge that gap, and today Banza is the largest better for you pasta company in the U.S. With our brown rice pasta, we set out to solve a different need. This time, our goal is to create the perfect tasting gluten free pasta. The result is a pasta that can be the star of any potluck, hold its bite in tomorrow’s leftovers, and feel as normal as any wheat-based pasta. It’s also solidly healthy, made from a blend of whole grain brown rice and chickpeas. I can’t wait to see this product out in the world, and for those who are gluten free like I am, I hope it becomes as meaningful an addition to your pantry as it's been to mine.

Brian Rudolph shared thisHad fun sharing Banza's origin story on How I Built This with Guy Raz, alongside Becca Millstein and Caue Suplicy, whose brands, Fishwife and Barnana, PBC, I've long admired. Like so many in the CPG space, the early days of Banza were a rollercoaster. Hopefully by speaking openly and honestly about those challenges, it gives others the confidence to fight through whatever they are facing, too. I'm a longtime HIBT listener and fan. It was an honor to be included! Thank you Klaviyo and of course Guy Raz for the opportunity. What It Really Takes To Build a Food Business: Part 1What It Really Takes To Build a Food Business: Part 1

Brian Rudolph liked thisBrian Rudolph liked thisWhen the news first came out about the new UK school meal standards, all I could muster was: WOW. (https://lnkd.in/p/geWNaRui) With a little more time to dive into the details, I am particularly excited about the beans provision. My colleagues and I at BITE: Building Impact Through Eaters have been promoting beans for quite some time (Check out the awesome Beans Can campaign: https://beans-can.org/) Legumes overall are a sextuple win—affordable, widely accessible, delicious, nutritious, sustainable, and culturally relevant to a variety of cuisines. (More: https://lnkd.in/gH_YmtPn). It’s a no-brainer to me that they belong in school meals nationwide. (Thanks to Chloë Waterman Friends of the Earth Madeline Bennett Balanced Kristin Gutekunst Paul Newnham SDG2 Advocacy Hub Beans is How and countless others for working on this exact point!) And I can attest on a personal level: My kids absolutely love beans! Especially pizza beans—https://lnkd.in/gGcJScyj —and the snack I have practically glued to my backpack: Bada Bean. But if I had to pick one provision in the new UK guidelines that I’m most excited about, it’s the cap on serving processed meats at most once a week. At the risk of never being invited to a neighborhood barbecue ever again, I’ve been writing about the cancer risks of processed meats for more years than I can count. (Exhibit A: https://lnkd.in/gMyXKaET). And despite decades of tremendous progress in school meals in America—whole and minimally processed ingredients, local sourcing, values-based procurement, scratch cooking, nutrition standards for snacks, healthier beverages, school gardens, salad bars, vegan and vegetarian options, etc—the continued ubiquity of processed meats in school meals has always felt to me like the biggest remaining issue we haven’t sufficiently tackled. Why do we think it’s OK to feed kids pepperoni, sausage, and hot dogs on a daily basis? What would it take to offer them in healthy moderation? I look forward to seeing how the coalition of actors behind this milestone in the UK proceed with implementing the new standards, just as much as I look forward to working with colleagues across the U.S. to take inspiration for how we might continue to move our own school meals in the right direction. Brian Rudolph liked thisBrian Rudolph liked thisWe started Column with the insane idea to rebuild every component of the financial system from scratch. Today, I think we've finally completed that build. We're releasing four new products, so any technology company can build at the frontier of financial services. - Stablecoins For the first time (and finally!) USDC and USDT are completely interoperable — 24/7 and instant — with the U.S. dollar and every underlying U.S. and international payment rail. Built natively into Column, with no middlemen. - Full-stack card issuing Column has issued cards and sponsored some of the largest programs in the country for years. We've now built our own issuer processor from the ground up, so you can launch and run a card program — bank, processing, and capital — with one integration. Mastercard and Visa, across debit, credit, stablecoin-backed, and every other card manifestation you can think of. - Global Banking We’ve heard you want to offer Column accounts to anyone in the world, not just here in the U.S. You can now issue U.S. dollar (or local currency) accounts and cards to verified customers anywhere in the world, on the same infrastructure and compliance tooling you use domestically. - Multicurrency account and local payouts Receive, hold, and send foreign currencies in individually numbered accounts, with instant conversion to and from U.S. dollars, and connections to international instant payment systems like SEPA Instant. These new products were built on our own financial primitives and are a step change in capability for anyone building in financial services. Instead of stitching together banks, orchestrators, issuer processors, and a dozen other vendors, you now only need one bank — Column — to build any financial product at the frontier. I'm most excited about how each of these products works with every other product at Column. Receiving USDC from Mongolia, converting it to U.S. dollars instantly, splitting it up and sending half to a small community bank over FedNow and the other half in euros over SWIFT — all with a couple API calls, in a matter of seconds — would have seemed like a pipe dream 12 months ago. You can do it today. Every product is already moving billions of dollars at scale for some of the largest fintechs in the world, including Ramp, Brex, Bilt, Mercury, Slash, Kapital, and many more. Happy building. column.com/launch

Charles Hudson from Precursor Ventures spent 10 minutes on their podcast debating whether LatAm's $300K ARR bar is helping or hurting founders. His concern: forcing founders to bootstrap to $300K creates "second-tier markets" that produce uninvestable companies optimized for survival instead of hypergrowth. My take in the original post: $300K ARR is the new reality for 90% of LatAm founders who want institutional pre-seed capital. Here's what we're both missing: we're describing symptoms of the same problem. The real issue isn't whether founders should bootstrap or raise early. It's that LatAm has a capital distribution problem disguised as a founder readiness problem. The difference? Geography matters more than most people realize. In the US, abundant pre-seed capital means founders can raise on team + early progress, then use that capital to hit seed metrics. The ecosystem supports pre-traction fundraising. In LatAm, the number of institutional pre-seed funds dropped dramatically post-2022. The ones that remain can set any bar they want because founders have no alternatives. Capital scarcity creates higher bars, not founder inability. So founders face a false choice: → Wait for capital that won't come (burn 12-18 months pitching) → Build proof that unlocks capital (hit $300K ARR bootstrapped) Charles is right that bootstrapping to arbitrary milestones can kill ambition. But he's solving for a market with abundant capital. I'm describing a market where capital scarcity forces founders to prove execution before anyone writes a check. That's not a founder problem. That's a geography problem. The vicious cycle isn't founders becoming uninvestable by bootstrapping. It's founders burning their networks and momentum fundraising pre-traction in a market that won't fund them. More early-stage capital deployed in LatAm. Not funds that bring US thesis and expect US-style traction. Funds that understand regional dynamics while maintaining venture-scale ambition. Until that changes, my advice to the 90% stands: stop fundraising pre-traction. Build to $300K ARR. Prove you can execute. Then investors will compete for you. Because the fastest way to raise capital in a capital-scarce market is to not need it. Shoutout to Charles Hudson and Mia Farnham at Precursor Ventures for the thoughtful analysis. The US-LatAm VC conversation needs more of this. If you're a LatAm founder navigating this reality, I'd love to hear your experience. Drop a comment. And if you're a US investor curious about LatAm dynamics, let's talk. The opportunity is massive, but the playbook is different.

The food supply chain remains one of the largest, most complex, and least digitized systems in the global economy. Companies like anchr are embedding AI directly into distributor workflows unlocking massive efficiency gains across an industry that quite literally feeds the world. Excited to see Smayan Mehra, Tzar Taraporvala, and the team hiring their next founding teammates. If you want to help rebuild the backbone of food distribution, this is a rare opportunity.

This week Tulip Interfaces became Acequia Capital's 23rd unicorn company. When we made the first investment into Tulip in 2015, it was clear to Hank and I that we were early. It was going to take some time, but that massive legacy industries had no idea the amount of innovation and value was out there, waiting to be won by companies that could master software and machine intelligence. These observations and others led us to develop two investment theses we’ve been executing on since; what we termed “New Industrials.” Fast forward 10 years and the idea that a broader industrial reinvention is underway is now almost a given across the capital markets and leading companies. A movement has sprung up around us. It’s much more in vogue to back physical technology startups now, but most investors misunderstand what great ones look like, and how numerous the barriers to adoption are. We’re fortunate to benefit from a decade of lessons and insights from watching up close as incredible founding teams have built immensely valuable organizations, these include Stoke Space, Radiant, Formlabs, Atomic Industries, Applied Atomics, Harbinger, Dirac, Inc., Rainmaker Technology Corporation, AnySignal, EthonAI, Flow Engineering, Milvus Advanced, Rivelin Robotics, Adaptyv, KMB Telematics Inc., Tactian, Nimble Precision, sensmore, Hyperdrives, Ethos Space Resources, Antaris, TransAstra, Rightbot Technologies, Provectus Algae, Arctoris, Flexe, Coronal Technologies, Exapto, Visolis, Vorticity Inc., XENOPS AI, and many others. My takeaway from 10 years of investing in industrial reinvention is that we are still at the beginning. We have a long way to go and the next 10 years will move a lot faster than the last. Thanks to our founders for the continued trust and partnership.

An emerging VC manager's fundraising lessons... the first two funds are a grind. Now, we’re on our third fund, it feels like we’re almost over the hump, but fundraising never gets easy for most of us. I want to congratulate the emerging VC firms presenting at this year’s RAISE Global conference. As former RAISE presenters, and (soon-to-graduate) emerging managers, we thought we’d share this LP Translator, a lighthearted guide to decoding what LPs really mean during the fundraising process. Fellow GPs, which ones did I miss? 👇 The LP Translator 📣 "Let’s stay in touch.” Translation: We’re not interested. “We want to see your track record develop.” Translation: Either we don't believe in your strategy, or we’re focused on managers with more buzz. “We’re not allocating to new managers right now.” Translation: We’re not allocating to you right now. "Show us your deals so we can get to know you.” Translation: We’d like free co-invests if you get something hot. “We need to see more DPI before we commit.” Translation: We don’t really understand VC, but we’re pretending to. “We’re fully allocated for this year; check in early next year.” Translation: Next year we’ll still be fully allocated (just not to you). “Call us before final close.” Translation: I’m too polite to say no at this time, so I’m kicking the can down the road. “Your fund is too small.” Translation: Okay, that one might actually be true (for some LPs). “We went through your data room and want to meet face-to-face.” Translation: We’re genuinely interested, keep going! “Can you send us your LPA for signature?” Translation: Let’s go! 🚀 -------------------------- Fundraising is a long game, longer than we ever expected. We're now seeing how LP relationships are built across several funds, not several months. If they’re investing time to learn about you and your strategy, that’s your best signal of real interest. #emergingmanager #venturecapital #LP #RAISEGLOBAL
