John Simmons shared thisThe Boulder County Farmers Markets celebrated its 40th anniversary this week, a milestone that reflects four decades of supporting local farmers, entrepreneurs, and our vibrant food community. To celebrate, Justin Gold invited many of the founders who helped put Boulder on the map as the heart of the natural products industry. I'm incredibly grateful to be part of a community where so many successful entrepreneurs are eager to give back, mentor others, and help the next generation succeed. Gatherings like this remind me why Naturally Colorado is so important. It helps preserve the collaborative spirit that built this community while creating opportunities for the next generation of founders to learn, connect, and grow together. steve demos Mark Retzloff Peter Burns Justin Gold Nancee Gold Richard Foy Lauren Lortie Philip Anson Deborah Olcott John F. John Simmons liked thisJohn Simmons liked thisToday we're announcing the launch of Supernatural Inc at 3900 Walmart stores. ✨ My team has never felt more confident that we belonged somewhere, in large part thanks to the huge national community we see choosing dye-free everyday online. Our shopper is most definitely at Walmart. But the infinitely deep breath teams need to take before undertaking a launch there is capital-R-Real. Like the rumors suggest, there is no single launch that is more technical, more bespoke, more utterly specific. The planet of Walmart has its own atmosphere, and to live there, you have to build new air. That's why we can't celebrate this launch without celebrating Maria Fernanda Pertz, the buyer who chose us, nurtured us, and rolled her sleeves up so collaboratively, walking us through the details of the Celebrations Aisle with such care and responsiveness. And to the entire team at Godwin Retail Group, but especially Sonya Petree and Daniel Godfrey, who are technically brokers but authentically members of our team, who dropped every jaw at Supernatural with their infinitely, endlessly hands-on role touching every. single. aspect. of this launch. Know that we know there is no such thing as this Walmart launch without you. To Meredith N., Kristi De Bruin, Tiffany Nilles, and Angela Henry: We all faced our own Supernatural mountains and climbed them this year. And we got to watch each other do it. I've never been in a company that grows as a team, so well. I'm so proud of you, the way you work together, the amazingly good heads you have on your shoulders, and the totally special way we get to work together to make this level of work, family, and personal dreams possible. We've kind of built our own planet, too. Congrats, babes :). #walmart #cpg #launch

John Simmons reacted on thisJohn Simmons reacted on thisToday’s the day. Dry Storage is at Newtopia Now, and we’re here to put purpose behind one of our most essential foods: flour. We started Dry Storage with a belief that something as ubiquitous as flour could be a powerful medium for change. Better grain. Grown by farmers investing in their soil. Milled for flavor, nutrition and performance. Built around a system that values the people and places behind our food. There is so much momentum right now around regenerative agriculture, but for it to work, we have to build the markets that make it possible. That’s the work we’re doing at Dry Storage. If you’re at Newtopia Now, come find us, taste some flour, talk grain, and see what we’re building. How many cannabis events can one team realistically support in a month? I think a company working across states has to be willing to skip good events. There needs to be room in the calendar to develop the relationships it went there to build. I was at Revelry Buyers’ Club in New York last Friday, while NECANN was running in New Jersey and IgniteIt was in Denver. This week, Network Show is in LA. Looking across September, I found at least 29 in-person cannabis events on U.S. calendars, including trade shows, summits, mixers, industry fundraisers and festivals. That excludes webinars, dispensary promotions and conference after-parties. These gatherings matter. Getting buyers, operators and potential partners into the same room can make introductions that are difficult to arrange individually. Each state also has its own people to know, which makes a local event valuable even if you just attended one somewhere else. Those introductions need time to turn into working relationships. A buyer may need pricing, and a potential partner may need a longer conversation about how you’d actually work together. When shows are only a few days apart, it’s easy for that follow-up to get pushed back while the team prepares for the next trip. Before booking another show, I’d want to be able to name the buyers or partners we’re going there to see and what we hope to move forward with them. I’d also look at what we still owe the people we met at the last one. A good event can still be one you sit out that month. What makes a show worth returning to for you, and what makes you take one off the calendar? #CannabisBusiness #OrdoVerde

What makes a cannabis brand “CPG-ready”? “CPG-ready” gets thrown around a lot—and misunderstood even more. It doesn’t mean national distribution tomorrow. It means the brand can stay itself when scale, new states, and new operators start touching it. CPG-ready looks like: • A clear positioning (so every state isn’t reinventing the story) • Consistent brand architecture across markets (naming, tiers, formats, claims) • SKU discipline that protects the hero products (and kills the “nice-to-have” line extensions) • Packaging + design systems that are built to flex for compliance without breaking the brand • Brand governance: creative standards, approvals, and guardrails that keep execution tight • The operational backbone that protects the experience (QA, manufacturing, and compliance that don’t create brand damage) In emerging categories, speed gets attention. In mature categories, consistency earns trust—and trust earns valuation. The companies that understand that difference will shape the next decade. What’s the biggest thing holding your brand back from being truly CPG-ready: positioning, architecture, packaging, or SKU discipline? #cpg #cannabis #branding #brandstrategy #theclearbrands #theclearefx #twaxbytheclear

The biggest problem within the cannabis industry is not understanding how to talk to the customer. Things the industry cares about that consumers don't: - Processing methods - Chemistry lessons about minor cannabinoids - Potency (they think they care about this but they don't, they simply want an expected outcome that isn't necessarily tied to potency) - Thinking cannabinoids are only good for getting people high Consumers don't want to get high, they want relief. Sometimes getting high provides the relief they're looking for. The future of the cannabis industry is being able to communicate with consumers the way that non-canna brands communicate. People don't buy pain cream because they understand the chemistry of the ingredients. They buy it because they believe it will deliver relief they are seeking. If this industry is going to be normalized, it needs to communicate better with consumers. Life Leaf Remedies is a cannabis brand, but my goal from Day-1 has been to make it not feel like a cannabis brand. It should feel like a non-canna brand that provides the same (but better) results people seek from non-canna products. If I have a product that can help an elder lady get better sleep, I don't want her afraid that the product is going to get her high. She doesn't know what a cannabinoid is, she just wants better sleep. If I'm wrapped around the axel about the cannabinoids in the product, I'm going to lose her because the unknown is intimidating. If I simply provide a product experience that communicates nothing but better sleep from natural ingredients, that creates a much more trustworthy path for the consumer. Cannabis products are superior to their non-canna comps. The industry needs to communicate better so the consumer can understand this too.
