Jordan Rice shared thisAlways listen to the voice of the athlete... Trail running is near and dear to my heart. Its something I enjoy with my family, and its my personal form of recovery and therapy. I'm no where near the caliber of athlete that the Farm Team crew are, but I did get a chance to vicariously experience that upper echelon of elite athlete joy, pain, and motivation as they took part in this program. What struck me was how authentic this experience was. Raw, real, unfiltered, honest. The feedback was incredibly valuable. It made us better. I think we made them better. We definitely advanced the science and the state of the art in ultra trail running. More to come on that... Nike is a big company and a huge Brand. Sometimes people don't realize, or they automatically discount, the rigor, engineering, science, and love we pour into our products. I hope this provides a little window into how much we strive to elevate our craft and put athletes at the center of everything we do. The team crushed this. The athletes crushed this. Today, Frontiers of Advanced Semiconductor Technology — FAST — was awarded an NSF Regional Innovation Engine designation, with the potential to receive up to $160 million over the next decade to grow Oregon’s semiconductor ecosystem. This is exactly the kind of win Oregon needs. Nearly 100 partners across higher education, industry, government, nonprofits, investors, and community organizations came together around a shared goal: making sure Oregon remains a national leader in one of the world’s most important industries. The timing matters. The global semiconductor industry is moving fast. AI, advanced computing, electrification, and national security are driving enormous new demand. Other states are competing hard for the next generation of investment, talent, startups, and research. Oregon cannot rely on yesterday’s advantages. We have to build what comes next. FAST is built around three priorities that do exactly that: moving use-inspired research into practice, accelerating innovation and startups, and creating career pathways to grow and sustain talent for an AI-dependent semiconductor industry. This is also a proud moment for the Oregon Business Council team. OBC’s work on the Semiconductor Competitiveness Task Force and the Semiconductor Talent Consortium helped build the foundation for this effort over several years. Kyle Ritchey-Noll, OBC Action Lab's education and workforce policy director, has been deeply engaged in FAST’s workforce development strategy and captured the core idea well: the talent challenge is too big for any one sector to solve alone. This one is worth your time, I promise you. These 9 minutes will build your awareness and understanding of a massive humanity-scale problem occurring every day right under our noses, primarily impacting young children with devastating consequences. It will also inspire you to know that the solve for all of it is at hand *today* without any new technological or scientific breakthroughs required. We know how to do this, we just need to scale it all up. Drew’s organization, Pure Earth, is the tip of the spear in combating this scourge. Definitely worth checking them out. Jordan Rice liked thisJordan Rice liked thisI've really only started two companies as an entrepreneur (not counting one brief false start in between). I'm proud of both. They went on to become things that, at least to me, were very meaningful. And in both cases, in the earliest days, very few people understood why the threads I was tugging on were interesting or where they might lead. I didn't know where they would lead either. I just had a strong gut feeling that something interesting was happening, and that if I kept pulling on the thread, it could lead somewhere good. I've never been the entrepreneur who starts with some miraculous, Jobs-like vision of exactly how the world is going to change. Maybe that works for some people. It doesn't work that way for me. I look for interesting collisions in technology, markets, behavior, and business models that I think could reshape a category. And I like to jump in when it's still very unclear how things are going to play out on the other side. Then I learn. I talk to people. I follow things that seem interesting. I discard things that don't. And eventually the picture starts to come into focus. I'm in that messy period again now. It's a lonely path. There's no deck that explains exactly where this is going. There are plenty of days when I wonder whether I'm pulling on the right threads at all. But this is my third go-round, and I've learned to trust the process enough to believe something good is going to come out the other side. At this stage, the biggest risk isn't a market risk or a team risk. It's managing my own psychology. Trusting the process is easy to say. Doing it, month after month, with no deck and no clear picture yet, is the job.

Lead times don’t break plans. Assumptions do. Lead times rarely stay stable for long. What catches teams off guard isn’t change itself. It’s how tightly plans are coupled to assumptions that quietly expired. I see the same patterns repeat: • Forecasts built on outdated supplier signals • Single-source dependencies treated as low risk • Buffer strategies that don’t reflect real variability • Engineering or product changes layered onto frozen plans When lead times stretch or snap back, the system has no slack. Strong operating teams don’t try to predict stability. They design for variability. That means: • Planning around ranges, not point estimates • Separating strategic from tactical components • Revalidating assumptions as frequently as demand Lead time volatility isn’t a crisis. It’s a design input.
