Lisa Fleisher reposted thisLisa Fleisher reposted thisOkay, so I've been getting a lot of great messages about Skift's recent feature on gaming, gambling and casinos in the UAE. Thank you everyone; here are a few updates. A big component of the feature is the idea that the authorities are staying quiet, and while that has remained true since we published, the General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority - GCGRA did get back to me. They sent this statement: "The General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority (GCGRA) can confirm that a Commercial Gaming Facility Operator license has been awarded to Island 3 AMI FZ-LLC, a joint venture that includes Wynn Resorts." So yes, Wynn's gaming license has now been confirmed by the authorities - a sticking point I know analysts in Vegas were concerned about. There is still no press release from the government. Island 3 AMI FZ-LLC is made up of RAK Hospitality Holding LLC, Marjan and Wynn Resorts. The fact the license has been granted at a developer level rather than an individual company level means that if developers decided to build more than one casino, they probably already have the green light to do so. Another question I've been getting since publishing is who else is getting a license? I don't know the answer to that, but I have information that could help. Publically available online, you can find various URLs attached to GCGRA. They are all password-protected right now through OneComply, a company that specializes in digital security for gaming operators, vendors, suppliers and service providers. For example, island3.gcgra.gov.ae was registered on May 7 this year. Here are some other interesting ones: - gamellc.gcgra.gov.ae - The Game is GCGRA's national lottery operator - ewings.gcgra.gov.ae - EWings is the parent of lottery operator Mahzooz - emdrawllc.gcgra.gov.ae - Emirates Draw is a non-gambling draw operator - abbiati.gcgra.gov.ae - Abbiati is an Italian gambling equipment provider - aristocrat.gcgra.gov.ae - Aristocrat is an Australian gambling equipment provider - tcsjh.gcgra.gov.ae - TCSJH is a UK manufacturer and supplier of end-to-end live gaming solutions and service - novomatic.gcgra.gov.ae - Novomatic is an international gambling company based in Austria. Novomatic operates about 2,000 casinos and other gaming facilities in about 50 countries, many of them under the Admiral Casino brand. It also offers online gambling and produces slot machines and other technology for the gaming industry. You don't always find the culinary stars aligned in my two beloved cities. Last year, noodles, from pasta to soba, and pizza were big in the Big Apple and elevated classics from roast chicken to snails dominated the UK capital. But this year, me and the excellent Kat Odell found a bunch of common threads. They include the proliferation of heated up cocktails like the Midnight Negroni at the rooftop Jimmy in Soho, infused with spiced blood orange syrup and steaming chamomile tea. Creator Sayora Khamidova says it's been a giant hit from the first day. In London the Ham Yard Hotel is keeping guests warm at the Winter Martini Garden with options like the Beekeeper's Martini. And there are so many wine bars coming to London and NY in 2024 that if you're looking for business opportunity, consider going into the stemware business. There are three concepts and four words that encompass the majority of it: France. Resurrection. Jeremy King. First off France - There's going to me so much food, and even more wine, flowing through the UK capital, it's going to be like a Godard movie set. There's the new Claude Bosi spot, Josephine, that celebrates Lyonnaise cooking and July, coming to Charlotte Street with an Alsatian menu, and so many bars serving bottles from French producers there might be no wine left on the other side of the Channel. There's also the return of some epic restaurants, starting with Restaurant Story from star chef Tom Sellers that's reopening after a year and a £2.5 million renovation, and Julie's in Holland Park, where Champagne will once again start flowing in the Spring. And then there's Jeremy King, the restaurateur par excellence, bringing back Simpson's on the Stand and introducing a new incarnation of the storied Le Caprice. It will be familiar, but not, he says "for things to remain the same, they have to change." But there is more happening in London than French food and reborn classics. Los Mochis and Markus Thesleff are opening a City location up in the sky on Liverpool Street with lots of tequila and DIY Wagyu tomahawk and king crab tacos and Akira Back makes his UK debut at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group's upcoming Mayfair spot. I joined to build the commercial side of a company then proving whether readers would pay for trusted journalism. We more than doubled the subscribers, nearly tripled the revenue and concluded with a historic sale to Paramount. Bari, Nellie and Suzy built something rare. I'm glad I got to help make it profitable and durable. What I keep coming back to is the same problem I chased at the Journal and at Lazard: The economics of trustworthy information are broken, and the people fixing them are mostly not the incumbents. That's where I'll be spending my time. (Along with a book proposal that I can't wait to tell you about.)

AGBI - Arabian Gulf Business Insight combed through financial filings in Luxembourg and Italy to confirm, and spoke to people involved in Saudi Arabia. Santo Stefano Resort, a four-star property, sat shuttered for years before the purchase. It occupies a private beach, reachable only by ferry since cars are not allowed on the island.
