It’s no longer enough to have best-in-class components; true breakthroughs come from deep, system-level co-design. Our deep partnership with Gemini DeepMind means we are able to co-optimize the model and hardware with foresight for emerging computation and data movement requirements. This week, we mark a significant advance in this architectural journey with the General Availability of Ironwood TPUs, our seventh-generation custom silicon. Ironwood is purpose-built for the most demanding computational challenges—from large-scale model training and complex reinforcement learning (RL) to high-volume, low-latency AI inference and model serving. The impact of this integrated design makes Ironwood our most powerful and energy-efficient custom silicon to date: - A 10X peak performance improvement over TPU v5p. - More than 4X better performance per chip for both training and inference workloads compared to our Trillium TPU (v6e) introduced just a year ago. This is the power of first-principles engineering. It is the same vertical integration methodology that enabled the invention of the first TPU a decade ago, which in turn enabled the Transformer architecture eight years ago. We are scaling this principle today, linking up to 9,216 Ironwood chips in a superpod with 9.6 Tb/s Inter-Chip Interconnect (ICI) networking and 192 GB HBM per chip. This is all backed with a co-designed software stack to ensure maximum fleet efficiency and resilience. Last Friday was Match Day — the day medical students across the country learn where they’ll begin their careers as physicians. My son Joseph matched into Integrated Vascular Surgery at the University of Rochester, one of the most competitive specialties in medicine. In May he’ll graduate with his MD. I can’t describe what it feels like to watch your child reach a moment like this. I grew up in the small town of Bethlehem, the son of a barber. My father didn’t have much, but he gave me something no degree can teach — the belief that hard work, dedication, and commitment can take you anywhere. Those are the values I’ve tried to pass on to my boys. Seeing Joseph stand there on Match Day, holding that card, I saw the fruit of years of sacrifice, discipline, and relentless focus. Not just his — but the love and support of his mother, his family, and every mentor who invested in him along the way. Joseph, your mom and I are beyond proud of you. You earned this. Most founders were shutting down. Omar Tawakol was just getting started. Born in Cairo, raised between Egypt and America — he earned his undergraduate degree from MIT and his master's in Computer Science from Stanford. Then he did what most Ivy League graduates never do — he bet everything on a problem nobody had fully solved yet. He launched BlueKai — the world's largest consumer data marketplace. A platform that gave brands the ability to understand their customers at a scale never seen before. Every ad you see online that feels like it knows exactly what you want — that technology traces back to what Omar built. Three public companies came knocking. Oracle won the bid — acquiring BlueKai for over $400 million. But Omar didn't stop there. He built Voicea — an AI meeting intelligence platform. Cisco acquired it. Then he founded Rembrand — an AI-powered product placement company embedding brands seamlessly into video content. Three companies. Three exits. All built with the same obsession — solving problems at the intersection of data, AI, and human behaviour. There is a version of success where you cash out and disappear. And then there is the version Omar Tawakol chose — where every exit becomes the foundation for something bigger.
