Nick David Cox liked thisNick David Cox liked thisJust wrapped my first IBS in Orlando. Traded Virginia snow for Florida sun, and it was awesome. Huge event: about 75,000 people, massive exhibit floor, tons of energy. As NAHB and FABA members, we went to learn about real shifts in AI, tools, and workflows. Quick takeaways: • AI is early days in construction. Cool demos in the new AI & Tech Studio, but most sessions covered basics like data analysis and client comms. Plenty of room for practical custom tools. • CRM and reporting pain is still real for a lot of builders. Fragmented systems waste time and cause miscommunications. Custom integrations make a big difference. • Scaling session with Tyler Farrell, Brad Robinson, Joe Christensen (moderated by Dan Houghton from Buildertrend) hit home. Signs you're ready to grow, when to hire, building advisory networks, and buying back your time with the right people in place. Applies to any business, including ours at Synctivate. • Jon Taffer and Gene Myers session was great. Sharp advice on finding ideal customers and selling the emotional side of builds. Brought the family too. Kids loved Legoland and enjoyed the pool while I was in sessions. Win-win. Although it's a bittersweet moment for me, I'm leaving the company incredibly thankful for the last 12+ years. I've had the pleasure of working with and becoming friends with so many wonderful people. I'm sure I will inevitably miss many people in my shout out but I found myself thinking about the journey this AM and have to thank a few people! Mark Corsetti - thanks for being a genuine good guy and even though it was an innocent mistake calling me "Tom" at our first dinner, you indirectly taught me that I have to make a name for myself at this company if I want to be successful. Anton Niculescu - thank you for creating a culture of meritocracy back in 2015 & teaching me more about sales than I ever thought I could learn Paul Giardina - thank you for being a voice of reason during some turbulent times David Kasabian - thank you for approving a "special bonus" early in my career. Although the $ amount may be considered insignificant to many, you taught me that hard work can be rewarded no matter what the "rules" are. Irene Salvini Paolo Angeli - thank you for teaching me you can be a "Tagetik shark" and have infinite compassion at the same time Stephen Silvestro - thank you for showing me how a "real executive" behaves and leads an organization. Alessio Lolli - thanks doesn't cover it but I appreciate you giving me a shot at this whole "presales thing" even though my biggest fear was/is public speaking! Mark J. Here are 5 ways to stay consistent (without superhuman willpower): 1️⃣ "Dailyish" Habits Committing to something “dailyish” keeps you consistent without the guilt of missing a day. It’s flexible, sustainable, and removes the all-or-nothing pressure that leads to burnout. 2️⃣ Shrink the Starting Line Big goals feel overwhelming. Instead, start with a ridiculously tiny version of the habit: one push-up, one sentence, one minute. 3️⃣ Set "No-Later-Than" Rules Set buffers instead of rigid deadlines. For example, instead of waking up at exactly 6:00 AM, commit to being up no later than 7:00 AM. Anything earlier is a win—not a failure. 4️⃣ No "Zero Days" Even on your worst days, find one small action to move forward. A single page, a quick stretch, or just tidying your workspace keeps the momentum alive. 5️⃣ Be Your Own Biggest Fan Slipping up isn’t the problem—how you respond is. Forgive yourself, learn from it, and get back on track. Self-compassion fuels discipline better than self-criticism ever could.
