Speed is rarely the problem in GTM transformation. Direction is. New growth targets and real pressure to build momentum quickly will be a familiar start to 2026 in financial and professional services. Most leadership teams I speak to aren’t short of pace. They’re already moving fast, launching new offers, resegmenting clients, investing in AI, asking more of advisers, partners, and client-facing teams. The challenge is that speed without clear GTM direction creates activity, not momentum. That tension was captured in a recent Harvard Business Review article on what they call the “transformation treadmill”. Lots of movement, "serial transformations", but growing uncertainty about what’s actually driving results: https://lnkd.in/eJ3GWHCV I see the same pattern show up in GTM activations when: - New client segments or service lines are added before existing ones are profitable - Partners, advisers, or relationship managers are asked to “sell more”, without clarity on what to prioritise - Digital and hybrid models are introduced alongside traditional ones, but incentives still pull people back to old behaviours - Marketing, product, and front-line activity increases, while the client experience becomes less consistent When GTM momentum is real, different signals appear: - Clear choices about which client segments and propositions really matter - A small number of strategic bets that client-facing teams can confidently articulate - Consistent messaging across marketing and client conversations - Early evidence that behaviour is changing ahead of commercial gains When direction is clear, pace becomes a real advantage. When it isn’t, speed just amplifies complexity in already complex organisations. As the year gets underway, the hardest part of GTM transformation usually isn’t moving faster. It’s being disciplined about where growth won’t come from. #MomentumThatMatters
