Ryan Beach liked thisRyan Beach liked thisThis is my first driver’s license photo, from before the DMV had digital cameras. Back then, you got what you got. I’ve kept it all these years because it’s just so awful … and it still makes my kids laugh. Last summer, it found a new purpose. My team was looking for a way to get to know each other as we spent more time back in the office. Some teammates had never met in person. Others worked remotely or were based overseas. So we made trading cards. Everyone picked a photo with a little personality. Naturally, this is the photo I picked. What surprised me was how often people stopped by to ask about it. That simple question opened the door to conversations about growing up, families, hometowns, hobbies, and shared experiences. Before long, those moments of connection were happening all across the team. The cards gave people permission to start a conversation. More importantly, they gave people a reason. It’s a small thing, but those conversations made everyone feel a little more approachable. Looking back, the trading cards were never really about the cards. They helped turn names on an org chart into people. This week we’re launching our second set, and I think we’ve started a new tradition.

From the earliest exploratory conversations to the final assortment, so much heart, creativity, and collaboration went into creating a collection that truly celebrates those unforgettable early moments of parenthood. The result is beautiful, thoughtful, and accessible for families everywhere. A special shoutout to Olivia Culpo. Working with you has been an absolute pleasure. You brought a clear vision, genuine passion for creating something meaningful, and an unwavering focus on what parents really need. Your partnership made this collaboration stronger every step of the way. I’m so grateful to have been part of this journey alongside an incredibly talented cross-functional team. Congratulations to everyone who helped bring Picolette to life—I can’t wait to see families make memories with this collection.Introducing Picolette, Olivia Culpo’s New Baby Brand Exclusively at TargetIntroducing Picolette, Olivia Culpo’s New Baby Brand Exclusively at Target

Ryan Beach reacted on thisBeing part of this “first team” has been one of the most meaningful experiences of my 15+ year career. It’s a powerful thing to genuinely enjoy showing up to work each day - especially alongside a group that challenges, supports, and elevates one another. Yesterday at Target's Business Partner Summit, I had the opportunity to lead a panel with leaders from our Merchandising and Planning & Inventory Management teams. Getting to learn from and alongside this group isn’t something I take lightly - it’s a privilege every day. Grateful to be part of a team that truly operates as one. Ryan Beach Katie McGinnity-Hurst Kevin Wong Tina SederbergRyan Beach reacted on thisI’ve been thinking a lot lately about the concept of a “first team” — the idea that your peer group is your first team, not just the teams you individually lead. I feel incredibly lucky to be surrounded by a strong first team that creates space for transparent dialogue, real connection, healthy challenge, and a lot of trust. The kind of team where you can work through hard things honestly, celebrate wins together, and stay focused on what’s best for the broader organization. It’s easy for leadership teams to operate in silos. It’s much harder — and much more impactful — to truly operate as one team. Really grateful for this group and what we’re building together! The fourth Austin location will be stacked with recovery innovation and will be the largest Hyrox Performance Center in Austin... This time we are 33k square feet split on two levels with an additional 6k as an outdoor rooftop gym... so Rainey Street nightlife can start on our roof! But most importantly we will offer the most effective body building equipment in the world from Panatta, Eleiko, Gym80, NewTech, Hammer Strength, and some big surprises. Yep. I am still going to trade shows after all! It has been a blast to make my hobby a post-corporate side project... and it's time to enjoy whatever phase I am in now scaling it into a company. Let's Go! See you in Austin for a workout!

Ryan Beach reacted on thisRyan Beach reacted on thisOn April 28th, I logged on (and off) for the final time at Thomson-Reuters. After 38 years, I have retired. Throughout those nearly 4 decades I’ve seen many changes, including 3 different building locations, a major merger, multiple company name changes and many managers, projects, co-workers and so many changes in technology. It’s been a great career with many ups and downs, successes and failures. But I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I feel extremely blessed and fortunate to do what I always had a passion for in my youth. Now, onto a new chapter in my life!

New stores demand fast decisions. Operations demand discipline. Balancing the two is where retail leadership gets tested. The first weeks after opening bring constant adjustments. Traffic shifts. Processes get tested. Unexpected friction shows up. The goal isn’t to prevent change; it’s to manage it without losing operational consistency. Regional VP of Retail Jason Berkenstock describes the approach this way: "We trust our leadership teams to move quickly, but there are clear guardrails around decisions that impact the customer experience." Speed without structure creates chaos. Structure without flexibility slows the business down. Strong retail leadership finds the middle.

Talent Doesn’t Drive Results Alone. Behavior Does. In retail, we often talk about hiring great talent. But talent without consistent, intentional behaviors rarely delivers sustained results. The real differentiator? 👉 Aligning talent with clear expectations, repeatable behaviors, and disciplined execution. When you get this right, three things happen: • Employee engagement increases • Customer experience becomes consistent and elevated • Incremental sales follow, predictably, not accidentally High-performing organizations don’t leave this to chance. They define what “great” looks like, operationalize it, and hold teams accountable every single day. At Retail Advisory Group, we partner with leaders to: ✔️ Identify the behaviors that truly drive performance ✔️ Build practical, field-ready strategies ✔️ Test and measure what works ✔️ Lead flawless execution across stores and teams Because strategy without execution is just theory. And execution without measurement is just guesswork. If you’re ready to unlock performance through your people, let’s talk. #RetailLeadership #TalentStrategy #CustomerExperience #RetailOperations #Leadership #Execution #SalesGrowth #RetailAdvisoryGroup

Reflection sharpens foresight. By reviewing weekly wins and losses, leaders uncover patterns that guide future choices. In practice, this lesson applies directly to retail and omnichannel leadership. Executives who internalize these principles not only guide their organizations through uncertainty, but also create cultures of adaptability, resilience, and long-term loyalty.

Target’s latest leadership reshuffle signals more than an org chart change — it’s a clear bet that merchandising will once again sit at the center of the company’s strategy. With new CEO Michael Fiddelke consolidating merchandising authority and elevating leaders like Cara Sylvester to Chief Merchandising Officer and Lisa Roath to Chief Operating Officer, the intent seems clear: simplify decision-making, strengthen product authority, and improve the guest experience through sharper execution. As someone who has watched Target evolve over the years, I’m hopeful this renewed focus will reinvigorate what has historically made the brand special—innovative products, distinctive assortments, and storytelling that felt uniquely “Target.” Leadership changes alone don’t transform a retailer, but aligning merchandising, operations, and customer experience under a clearer vision is often where meaningful turnarounds begin. The opportunity now is to reconnect operational discipline with creative merchandising — blending style, value, and discovery in a way that re-energizes both the store environment and the digital shelf. #Retail #Target #Merchandising #RetailLeadership #Omnichannel #RetailStrategy #DigitalMerchandising #FutureOfRetail #CustomerExperience
