The theme — “The Human Advantage: Leading the Brain-Positive AI Economy” — could not be more timely. A special thank you to Paweł Świeboda, Harris Eyre and George Vradenburgadenburg for your leadership, partnership and for bringing together such an important global community. The agenda reflected the breadth of this movement — from brain health and AI to prevention, health-system transformation and brain capital. I was especially excited to speak during the session on “Pivoting Upstream: Making Prevention and Early Detection the Norm,” with a spotlight on Precision Nutrition — and to share our work at VitalityIP and Social Impact Partners | Global Brain Health Initiative around the intersection of precision nutrition, AI, brain health and longevity. Here is my take, as someone who has worked on both the retail and the health side: The same data that delivers a digital coupon can also power something more valuable: nutrition guidance that fits your health goals, your budget and the store you already shop. That is the promise of personalized nutrition. But it only works if shoppers trust it and understand what it enables. Three questions every retailer, brand and health tech company should be able to answer in plain language: 1. What data do you collect? 2. How is it used? 3. What does the shopper get in return? One lesson stays with me: when we slow down and become truly other-centric, we give someone room to tell us who they are, and in the telling, they often discover who they are. Slow down. Connect. Truly listen. The noise falls away and we hear the signal: clarity, purpose, direction. Hard decisions get made without regret. Expanding or contracting, it's the spirit in which we do it. Her poem "Still I Rise" inspired our name: Accelerate + Arise. And as Levi writes: "...for anything to be good, truly good, there must be love in it... Nothing is what it is supposed to be if love is not at the core." This weekend, do two things. First, get quiet. A walk on the beach, the mountains, or an ultra-early coffee before your world wakes up. Then ask: What two or three things must be true for my business and personal goals to succeed? On a scale of 0–10, how much peace do I have about each? If any is below an 8, let's talk. Now. Right now.

"Unfollow the Noise," written alongside Tony Castillo, helps families of young athletes figure out what works versus what's trending. To write a book about unfollowing the noise, I had to follow all of it. For research purposes. I do not recommend it. - An Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation FNCE session in San Antonio next month on what happens when 50 states write 50 different food rulebooks. My slides are done. Then USDA opened 18 comment periods in one week, so "done" is perhaps a strong word. - Nutrition and commercial strategy for a food & health tech company, two scientific advisory boards, hundreds of athletes to coach and a nonprofit to run. - A family calendar that looks like air traffic control. 🛬 ⚾ 🏈 Full transparency: the only reason any of this is getting done is Lindsay Werkhoven Patrick, M. Ed. I could not do any of it, let alone all of it, without her. And none of it happens without my husband, Colin Bates, who has always been my biggest supporter. Tonight, after the week I had, dinner is a rotisserie chicken, a bag salad and a whole grain side, because I practice what I post 😉🍗 . So, do I have time for new projects? Absolutely not. I know you're supposed to say you're energized... to tell the truth, I'm exhausted :) But it was an absolutely *wonderful* week for brain health in the workplace, with reports launched (particularly Google Xi and HKS, Inc.'s report on how teams can thrive in the AI era (https://lnkd.in/ee-puJ6X)), new connections made (hello Alison Campbell, Harvey Karp, MD, FAAP, Natalia Arjomand and many more), and an inspiring speech from Goldie Hawn! The Business Collaborative For Brain Health was privileged to host a conversation at the European Brain Council (EBC) Brain Days focused on women's brain health, in research and in the workplace. What a powerhouse panel, with Lisa Mosconi, Susan Peters and Lynn Posluns explaining how to improve working conditions to keep women healthy and in the workforce. More on this in the next BCBH post. A few BCBH-coded thoughts that will stick with me: - The ability to evolve in the workplace, to be retrained, relies on healthy brains. Henrietta Moore said, "you can't upskill a tunneled mind." Gary Litman at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce noted that people are often let go because company leaders don't think they can be retrained. - Brain capital superstar Krystal Sexton hammering this message all week: we are not measuring the so-called "soft" skills we say are important for the future of work: judgment, creativity, focus. And we don't measure cognitive overload, even though we know it's happening everywhere. - Additional brain health superstar Sandra Bond Chapman PhD launching the Brain Health Pulse: a 12-minute, phone-based test that can easily get people tracking their brain health. We need community- and workplace-based gateways for people to care about their brain health, and the Pulse is a great step forward. During the session, Dr. D'Esposito highlighted why playing "offense" on cognitive health is critical: "If they wait until they see symptoms, it's too late at that point and you have to play defense and race against an already declining brain. The Collaboration Fund is a $1 million pooled grant fund that includes an anchor commitment from the Ford Foundation along with support from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. Launching at a critical moment, the Collaboration Fund seeks to reduce fragmentation and financial stress across these organizations. The RFP supports mergers, acquisitions, and other forms of deep collaboration by helping finance integration costs. Who it's for: Nonprofit organizations or international equivalent structures whose work creates value for the impact investing ecosystem, and who are exploring and executing strategic mergers and collaborations. This may include organizations that develop shared infrastructure or frameworks, provide education and thought leadership, convene stakeholders to advance common goals, produce publicly available research, or advocate for policies or other conditions that enable market growth.
