Steve Kenneally reposted thisSteve Kenneally reposted thisThe payment hub market is evolving quickly as banks seek more efficient, flexible ways to manage ACH, wires, real-time payments and emerging rails. Datos Insights partnered with American Bankers Association to create this assessment which outlines why community and regional banks are moving away from siloed systems and towards more integrated, multi-rail payment platforms. It highlights the trends shaping the market—from instant payments and ISO 20022 to cloud-native architecture and embedded fraud controls. To help member banks make more informed payment infrastructure decisions, this assessment includes detailed vendor profiles offering added insight into how leading solutions compare in a fast-changing market. ABA members can access this report on the ABA website. If you are a community or regional bank evaluating payment hub vendors, let's talk payments! Partnering with Datos Insights can accelerate your path to a modern payments ecosystem. From clarifying strategic priorities and vendor selection criteria to evaluating platform capabilities and implementation considerations, we help banks reduce risk, save time, and make informed investments in the future of payments. Thanks to Justin Gaul, CFA, Veronica Kelly, Steve Kenneally and American Bankers Association for their collaboration on this project. #paymenthubs #paymentsmodernization #letstalkpayments

Steve Kenneally reposted thisSteve Kenneally reposted thisHave you seen these 1:1 interviews we held with the CEOs of the core banking platforms? I’m proud to be part of the team effort of the ABA Core Platforms Committee. This is one of the hardest working committees in the industry. The bankers and ABA staff have: 🔷 Met with the CEOs and execs of dozens of providers 🔷 Published the definitive Core Platforms Survey with real banker feedback on their cores 🔷 Developed checklists and templates for conversions 🔷 Created the Core Flexibility Assessment – Is your core flexible enough to meet your strategy? When you listen to videos, look for the similarities and the differences in the answers to the same questions about cloud, accessibility, and AI support. Then ask your Core what they are doing to enact this! Check out ABA.com/Core to access all of the videos, core fact sheets, templates, whitepapers, and more. Shout out to our esteemed chair, Bryan B., and fellow committee members Clay Adams , Shana Allen, Todd Braithwaite, Will Clements, Jim Kisch, Kristiane Koontz, Steve Lewis, Kate Gallo Megraw, Matt Michaelis, Greg Petersen, Lorraine Stefanick, Julieann Thurlow. The great ABA staff including Veronica Kelly, Ryan Jackson, Justin Gaul, Brooke Ybarra, and Russell Davis. Steve Kenneally reposted thisSteve Kenneally reposted thisOne of the themes I hear most often from bankers is that payments are becoming harder—not because of a lack of innovation, but because there's so much innovation happening at once. Banks are simultaneously managing ACH, wires, real-time payments, new messaging standards, fraud tools, and increasing customer expectations. To help institutions navigate this evolution, ABA recently released our Payment Hubs Product Assessment, which examines the payment hub market and highlights considerations for banks evaluating modernization strategies. If this is a topic you're thinking about, I'd encourage you to download the report and join my colleagues Justin Gaul, CFA and Steve Kenneally, Christopher Richards, AFPP, APRP, CAFP from The Cape Cod Five Cents Savings Bank, and Robin LoGiudice from Datos Insights on July 21 for a discussion with industry experts on where the market is heading and what banks should be considering today. 📘 Report: Payment Hubs Product Assessment (https://lnkd.in/eANasuDN) 💻 Webinar: Modernizing Payments: Key Insights from ABA's Payment Hub Assessment (https://lnkd.in/e5dWXYim) #PaymentsModernization #BankingTechnology #Innovation #Payments #CommunityBankingModernizing Payments: Key Insights from ABA's Payment Hub AssessmentModernizing Payments: Key Insights from ABA's Payment Hub Assessment

To kick off the new year, my ABA colleague Steve Kenneally joins me on the podcast to talk about what he calls "the *original* instant payment rail." Yes, I’m sure your socials have been flooded with posts about how great it was - the energy, the content, the speakers, the conversations. And it WAS all of that. But what you don’t always see are all the moments that happened beyond the sessions and the stage. We cheered each other on as someone took the stage for the first time. We celebrated milestone company anniversaries and careers well spent with a retirement announcement. We hugged friends carrying the worry of a sick loved one back home. We high-fived someone who just landed their biggest account yet. We celebrated wins, shared worries, laughed - a lot - and genuinely showed up for one another. That’s the part you can’t capture in an agenda or a highlight reel. This is ABA. We know banks. But we know YOU, too! And I think that matters. I’m beyond grateful to be part of this incredible community of bank marketing leaders, partners and friends — and I came home completely energized for what’s next. Steve Kenneally liked thisSteve Kenneally liked thisI’ve been following this case closely because it could have significant implications for inspectors general across Maryland, and possibly the country. I’m encouraged that the judge confirmed what we all knew: that Baltimore Inspector General Isabel Mercedes Cumming must have access to the records and systems in order to do her job. Independent oversight cannot work when government officials control what information a watchdog can see. Steve Kenneally liked thisSteve Kenneally liked thisThe legal fight over independent oversight in Baltimore continues. A judge has rejected City Hall’s attempt to clarify or reconsider her order requiring the city to promptly turn over responses to outstanding subpoenas from Inspector General Isabel Mercedes Cumming. Now, rather than comply, the Mayor’s administration is seeking to appeal the ruling and put the order on hold. As I told FOX Baltimore, it’s time to stop fighting the watchdog: “Let’s just open up the books, give the IG what she wants, be transparent and move this forward.” IGs cannot effectively uncover fraud, waste and abuse when the officials they oversee control what information they are allowed to see. The longer this fight continues, the more it undermines the independent oversight Baltimore residents deserve. Independent oversight only works when watchdogs have real independence and real access. https://lnkd.in/e8ZkK5kP #Oversight #Accountability #Baltimore #IG #Fraud #Watchdogs #WithoutFearorFavorJudge denies Baltimore City's bid to clarify order in OIG legal fightJudge denies Baltimore City's bid to clarify order in OIG legal fight

Fraud is no longer a future risk, it’s a present-day operational challenge. 👀 Alloy’s State of Fraud Report, released this week, shows 67% of financial institutions are experiencing an increase in fraud events, with credit unions and regional/community banks absorbing the sharpest impact. To unpack what this data actually means in practice, The FR editors sat down with Marc Weisman, VP of Product at Alloy, for a deeper conversation on how fraud is evolving in the age of AI and where many institutions are falling behind. Together, they explore critical questions shaping fraud strategy in 2026: 👉 How is AI changing the economics of fraud? 👉 Which AI-enabled fraud tactics are most misdiagnosed by banks right now? 👉 What common blind spots are you seeing in detection? 👉 How should institutions rethink fraud models when the “attacker” is no longer human? Do traditional rules or scoring models fail under automated attack patterns? 👉 How is AI blurring the line between third-party fraud, first-party fraud, and scams? 👉 What would a realistic, AI-forward fraud strategy look like in 2026, and how does that differ from what most banks are actually doing today? 📊 Read the full breakdown from their conversation here: https://lnkd.in/gwXdyu-G #Fintech #FraudPrevention #RiskManagement #Compliance #IdentityVerification #FinancialCrime #AIinFintech #BankingInnovation

Coalition for Financial Ecosystem Standards

Nonbank payment providers now carry a large share of transaction activity, and bank partners need a clear way to judge whether those programs are ready to launch. Today, the Coalition for Financial Ecosystem Standards released our Payments Module, the next step in a standards library that started with our Core Risk and Compliance Standards and grew with the Lending Module. What's in the Payments Module: - Payments Standards with a 5-tier maturity matrix across five categories, from governance and funds management to merchant risk and consumer protection - A Pre-Launch Checklist outlining the risk, operational and customer-readiness controls a payment product should have in place before going live "The launch of this Payments Module and Pre-Launch Checklist gives nonbank providers and their bank partners a shared, repeatable roadmap to track launch readiness and mitigate settlement and operational risks," said CFES Co-Founder Sima Gandhi. Like the Lending Module, this one sits on top of the Core Standards and takes that foundation into payments-specific ground like settlement, reconciliation, safeguarding customer funds and error resolution. It works for organizations of any size or operating model and gives the industry a consistent way to measure payment program maturity without adding new regulatory requirements. Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP)
Someone taps "apply." A minute later: Loan approved. That's all the consumer sees. What's invisible is the engine underneath: identity verification, affordability assessment, a web of coordinating institutions, and safeguards watching for what could go wrong. It starts with identity. Institutions need confidence in who they're dealing with, leaning on systems like NIN and BVN. This matters most in a market where many consumers lack formal credit histories. Verified identity is the foundation everything else depends on. The harder question is affordability, not eligibility. Income data, transaction behavior, obligations and repayment history feed credit scoring and risk models, not to exclude people, but to lend what they can actually manage, not simply what they requested. Get this wrong, and the fallout is real: strained households, riskier portfolios, eroding trust in formal credit. No single institution runs this alone. Banks supply lending capacity and regulated channels. Fintechs bring reach and user experience. Payment providers move funds. Credit and identity infrastructure inform decisions. Development finance institutions fund and structure the lenders. The consumer never sees who does what; they just expect it to work, which is why coordination matters so much. A weakness anywhere in the chain ripples elsewhere, and at scale, small issues turn systemic. Scale is the real test. Handling thousands of applications a month means building for exceptions, not just the routine path: a mismatched identity record should be flagged and resolved, not waved through for speed. That is operational excellence: not the absence of problems, but the capacity to catch and respond to them early. Speed only matters once the foundation is sound, and disbursement is the only part outsiders usually see, which is why it's easy to mistake it for the whole system. The work continues after the money lands. Approval feels like the finish line to the consumer; operationally, it's the halfway point. Monitoring repayment patterns and emerging stress isn't just enforcement, it's a feedback loop that should sharpen how institutions assess risk and design products going forward. Bottom line: Operational excellence means building a system that can grow without losing its judgement: one that verifies, assesses, monitors, responds and improves as it scales. The real question isn't whether Nigeria's credit ecosystem can get bigger and faster. It's whether it can get smarter, safer, and built to last.
