Tony Jacobs shared thisWhat do weddings and Seattle Seahawks fans have in common? Ring Pop, of course! That range of possibilities is what makes the work Bazooka Brands' marketing team is doing so powerful. They are taking everything people have always loved about this iconic, nostalgic brand and finding fresh, relevant places for it to play. From bringing Ring Pop into wedding culture through our collaboration with the amazing Mindy Weiss to tapping into sports fandom through our recent partnership with the Seattle Seahawks, the team is creating new occasions, reaching new consumers, and supporting it all with bold marketing that breaks through. What makes me especially proud is not only the execution, but the strategic thinking behind it. The best brand building doesn’t leave heritage behind. It uses it as a springboard for what comes next. And our team is showing just how much opportunity there is to take an icon like Ring Pop into new and exciting places. Dave Dreyer, Joanna Sanfilippo Firestone, Nicole Schwartz, House 17, Tracy-Locke

Tony Jacobs shared thisIn this new era of marketing, there is nothing more important than listening to an organic groundswell of consumer sentiment, even when that groundswell is represented in your office by a giant Push Pop mascot wearing a combat helmet. A group of passionate fans calling themselves the Push Pop Army has been mobilizing on TikTok with one mission: bringing back Cotton Candy Push Pop. Their creativity, enthusiasm, and increasingly hard-to-ignore videos have now reached the highest levels of Bazooka leadership. It’s a fun example of how consumers can take a brand conversation in a direction we could never have scripted. We’re enjoying the conversation, engaging with the Army and giving fans a chance to show their support through a petition. Pushy has officially delivered the message. Leadership is listening! Tony Jacobs shared thisOur products at Bazooka Brands have been around for generations, but every generation connects with brands a little differently. Fortunately, our marketing team knows a lot more about what's trending than I do! One of the latest examples is The Great Candy Battle: MomTalk Edition, featuring Mayci and Jessi. Over the next few weeks, they'll battle it out to see who can rally the most fans to support their favorite Bazooka candies, with the winner earning a donation to the charity of her choice. I'm proud of the creativity behind this campaign and how our team continues to connect our brands with today's biggest cultural moments. Team Mayci or Team Jessi? Let the battle begin! #TheGreatCandyBattle #MomTok #BazookaBrands #RingPop #JuicyDrop #PushPop #BabyBottlePop

Tony Jacobs shared thisResearch question of the day: Does a Ring Pop taste even better when it comes straight from the factory? Our interns got to find out during a visit to our Ring Pop facility. It's been great having this talented group spend the summer learning, contributing across the business, and getting a behind the scenes look at how some of our favorite brands come to life. One thing I've learned over the years is that internships aren't a one way street. While our team enjoys helping develop the next generation of talent, we also learn from our interns. They bring fresh perspectives, new ideas, and a pulse on what's next. In fact, this video was created by one of our interns. Thanks to everyone who made it such a memorable experience! Bazooka Brands, Michelle Piechowski, Dave DreyerTony Jacobs shared thisWe're loving our intern class this summer. Our Scranton office hosted the team today to show them the operations side of the business. From R&D, to QA, to Ring Pop manufacturing, they all saw first hand what it takes to be a world class candy company. It was one of those low-key🔥 days (we're learning from them too). #BazookaBazooka Brands

For Tony Jacobs (MBA ’96), the Darden experience didn’t end at graduation, it became the foundation for how he leads today as President and CEO of Bazooka Candy Brands. From navigating uncertainty in the case method classroom to building high-performing teams, Jacobs credits Darden with shaping both his career and his leadership philosophy. Tony Jacobs liked thisTony Jacobs liked thisIt was a pleasure to join Stewart Samuel, Katie Blackburn and Phil Lempert for a thoughtful conversation on the evolving role of physical retail in brand discovery and consumer engagement. One takeaway that stayed with me: in a world where consumers can discover anything anywhere, physical retail still has a unique ability to create experiences, spark discovery and make memories. That’s especially relevant for HARIBO as we enter our next phase of growth in the U.S. We spoke about balancing innovation with the iconic treats shoppers know and love, and how the power of the retail environment can create new ways to connect with fans and drive incremental growth. Thanks to Stewart, Katie and Phil for a lively discussion, and to the Groceryshop team for bringing us together. #helloHARIBO #Groceryshop2026

Tony Jacobs liked thisTony Jacobs liked thisI made Partner at Chief Outsiders! The hardest 18 months of my career and the best 18 months of my career are the same 18 months. March 2024 I walked into what I thought was a normal meeting. It wasn’t. My boss and HR. I know the script and I was sitting on the WRONG side of the table for the first time in 25 years. I’m a divorced mom with two kids, my oldest then a freshman in college with my youngest heading there too. Everything I thought I knew about my career path just… shifted. A few weeks later. Sunny morning in May. Coffee getting cold, doing 15 things at once. Half-listening to a network call when I hear “fractional CMO” for the first time. I pull up my trusty friend Chuck (ChatGPT) and that day flips the switch for me. Late summer 2024 I launch my LLC. December 2024 I join Chief Outsiders. March 2025 my first client Dynamic Lifecycle Innovations and Alicia Suessmith say yes. Aurora Toth, my Area Managing Partner, sold me in when the client had real concerns I was “too big company corporate” for a mid-market company. She believed in me before I believed in myself. Early summer 2025 I get hard feedback. I was burying the headline. Leading with relevant activities, not impact. Aurora stopped me right there with a caring slap to the face. I fixed it. Kept the client. Dynamic is still going, no end date. That stumble changed how I work with clients. It also became the foundation of my Stop Sounding Corporate podcast this past June. I shared the hard parts with other Fractionals. Turns out a lot of us needed this. When you focus on impact, stop hiding the hard parts, and reach out, that’s when people actually show up for you. September 2026. Chuck Dushman, my Managing Partner, called saying he’d nominated me for Partner. Unanimous acceptance from the Leadership Team. I was literally on my knees thanking God and everyone who’d believed in me… If you’re in a career transition right now and wondering if the leap is worth it, I’d love to hear where you are. #ChiefOutsiders #FractionalCMO #PartnerAnnouncement #CareerPivot #CareerTransition #WomenInBusiness #Entrepreneurship

Tony Jacobs liked thisTony Jacobs liked thisA fun situation this week... a few of my kids’ friends told me they want to dress up as Fansville characters for Halloween. After nine seasons of Fansville, that one struck me. I’ve been incredibly fortunate to help shape and build Fansville alongside some talented creative minds from the very beginning. And seeing it show up in places like Halloween costumes and tailgates is a nice reminder of what we’ve always hoped to do: not advertise at college football fans, but understand them, celebrate them and build alongside the culture they create. Over time, Fansville has helped Dr Pepper earn a place in the irrational culture of college football fandom. That’s a pretty special thing to have been part of. It also makes me grateful for all the people who built it along the way. Our amazing partners at Deutsch, Publicis Groupe, Keurig Dr Pepper Inc. and an amazing brand team led by Brad Rakes. But I want to give special recognition to some of the best and brightest folks I've had the pleasure of working with who helped lay the foundation in those early years, including Ryan Lehr, Rob Sender, Mitch Polatin, Adam Graves, and Morgan Aceino. I'll always remember the early lock-ins, discussions, and two-chardonnay meetings. Season 9... quite the ride!

I lead North American sales at Hirsh Industries, a national manufacturer of office and industrial storage products. Before Hirsh I spent seven years as President & CEO of International Enviroguard, so I look at sales the way an owner does: through pricing, margin, and cash.

At Hirsh I own revenue across retail, e-commerce, wholesale distribution, industrial/MRO, education, government, and OEM. Most of my time goes to pricing, forecast discipline, channel economics, and the handoffs between sales, operations, and supply chain.

I also build much of the account and margin reporting we run on, increasingly with AI. The goal is simple: get clear visibility into customer buying history, product gaps, freight cost, and where volume is moving, so we make better calls before buying another system.

Enviroguard makes disposable protective apparel sold through industrial distribution. We grew by getting narrower: simplifying the portfolio, rebuilding the independent rep model, diversifying contract manufacturing across five countries, and getting honest about what the company was actually good at. Then COVID hit. Demand for protective clothing went vertical and global supply chains broke in the same quarter. I stepped away in 2024 leaving a stronger, more profitable business than the one I took over.

Between Enviroguard and Hirsh, our family moved back to Iowa after eleven years in Texas, and I spent 18 months advising owners and CEOs of manufacturing and distribution companies.

What running a company taught me: strategy fails without pricing discipline and forecast accuracy, and leadership teams perform when people hear the truth early and own a number.

Always glad to connect with owners, operators, and investors in manufacturing and distribution.

The premium cigar landscape is evolving, and cigar lounges across the country are feeling the impact. Once dominated by legacy brands and large distributors, the market is now being reshaped by boutique cigar companies that bring authenticity, exclusivity, and stronger profit potential to retail partners. For lounge owners focused on growth and retention, boutique cigars are no longer optional. They are essential. Today’s cigar consumer is more informed and adventurous than ever. Aficionados seek unique blends, compelling brand stories, and limited production cigars that offer an experience beyond the ordinary. Boutique brands meet this demand through small batch craftsmanship, innovative flavor profiles, and a sense of discovery that keeps customers engaged. Unlike mass produced cigars, boutique offerings create conversation. Customers ask for them by name, return to purchase again, and bring friends to try them. This behavior increases foot traffic and repeat visits, the lifeblood of a successful lounge. Higher Margins and Faster Turnover Boutique cigars often provide stronger margins than large corporate brands. Without heavy marketing overhead, boutique companies can offer competitive wholesale pricing while maintaining premium retail value. This creates a powerful revenue dynamic. Lounges earn more per stick while benefiting from faster turnover. When customers perceive a cigar as exclusive or hard to find, they are more likely to purchase immediately, improving sales velocity and humidor performance. The Power of Brand Story One of the greatest advantages boutique brands bring to lounges is story driven marketing. Customers do not just buy cigars. They buy into the narrative behind them. Drunk Chicken Cigars exemplifies this advantage. As a woman owned boutique brand founded by Desiree Sylver, the company stands out in a traditionally male dominated industry. Its bold identity, memorable name, and commitment to quality create a strong emotional connection with consumers. Lounge owners benefit from this built in conversation starter, encouraging engagement and loyalty. Demand That Starts Before the Lounge Boutique brands like Drunk Chicken Cigars generate consumer demand before customers enter the lounge. Through social media, influencer partnerships, and owner led messaging, the brand encourages smokers to request Drunk Chicken Cigars at their local lounges. The lounges that thrive today are those that embrace change. Boutique cigars represent a shift toward experiential retail, higher margins, and customer driven demand. By partnering with brands like Drunk Chicken Cigars, lounge owners gain access to products customers seek, stories that spark engagement, and revenue opportunities that extend beyond the humidor. In a competitive market, differentiation is everything. Boutique cigars deliver that differentiation and are proving to be the key to sustained growth and profitability.

GLP-1 is undoubtedly the greatest revolution the Food industry has seen in years. Tate & Lyle has been actively contributing in several discussions on the topic based on great proprietary research into users, former users and non users of GLP-1 (follow Tate & Lyle and Emma Cahill to stay on top of the topic!). In this article on FoodBev Media I had the opportunity to bring the lens of 'Mouthfeel' and the role of the sensorial experience of foods for consumers on and off GLP-1 drugs, a key considerations in formulation besides the nutritional content. "GLP-1s are reshaping the conversation around food and drink. Whether consumers are navigating medication-linked reduced appetites, adjusting to changes post-medication use, or boosting their fibre and protein intake, their needs converge around a clear expectation: food and drink must work harder to satisfy their physical, nutritional, and emotional needs. This goes beyond macros. It's about how products feel to eat and drink." https://lnkd.in/ezaV--cu

THE 2026 ALCOHOL “TRENDS” LIST IS OUT — HERE’S WHAT ACTUALLY MATTERS Forbes’ annual look at U.S. alcohol trends for 2026 outlines familiar but important forces shaping the market: moderation continuing to normalize, premium spirits holding relevance but facing more scrutiny, ongoing growth in RTDs and spirits-adjacent formats, and increasing overlap across beer, wine, spirits, NA, and adjacent categories. The article also notes a more price-conscious consumer, fewer impulse purchases, and a broader shift toward value and intentional choice as shelves and menus continue to converge into a wider “adult beverage” set. Those signals matter — but not for the reasons trend lists usually suggest. Every year, the headlines focus on what’s new: new formats, new categories, new buzzwords. What tends to get lost is what actually drives decisions once someone is standing at a shelf, a bar, or scrolling on their phone. Most drinkers don’t follow trends. They follow occasions. What keeps showing up beneath all the predictions: People want clarity, not complexity They want drinks that fit a moment, not a manifesto They’re choosing with context and convenience, not tasting notes And they’re still gathering — just differently than before Yes, moderation is real. Yes, RTDs and adjacencies keep evolving. Yes, price sensitivity matters more than it did five years ago. But none of that replaces the core truth of this industry: The drink is the handshake. The moment is the reason. As categories blur, competition shifts. Bottles aren’t just competing within their segment anymore — they’re competing against anything else that promises a similar feeling, pace, or experience. That’s why 2026 looks less like a breakout year and more like a sorting year. The brands and venues that win won’t be the ones chasing every trend. They’ll be the ones that help people answer a simple question faster: What should I drink right now, for this moment — and why will I enjoy it? When discovery gets easier. When flavor feels intuitive. When the experience fits real life. People don’t drink more. They drink better. People remember how it fit the moment.

Searching for growth? General Mills has announced plans to boldly go after the over 55s in their quest to increase volumes. While much of CPG chases 18-45s or the latest wellness fad, General Mills is placing its bets on three under-the-radar, high-leverage consumer groups: - Adults aged 55 +, who account for nearly half of U.S. households and have enormous spending power. - Consumers using GLP-1 medications (up to 12%+ of U.S. adults), who’re eating less but seeking more protein, more functional nutrients, smaller portions. - Hispanic shoppers, where General Mills plans to ramp up innovation and engagement by ~40% in FY26. This move takes product renovation in new directions - redesigning products and formats to match how people now live, eat and feel. They’re innovating for smaller households (smaller pack sizes), higher-protein need states, functional nutrition and not just indulgence. And this isn’t an isolated move. It’s part of a broader CPG reboot as the absence of growth looms.
