Troy Bader liked thisTroy Bader liked thisToday, I had the opportunity to attend and help work the UND Nistler College of Business & Public Administration Morrison Leadership Summit. I was able to meet and make many meaningful connections with leaders from a variety of industries. Leading up to the event, my role as a Marketing Intern for Nistler gave me the opportunity to have a behind-the-scenes look at what goes into an event of this nature. I learned about the planning process, speaker selection, and even had the opportunity to create materials used for the event. I am incredibly grateful to have been a part of an event that brings UND students together with alumni and leaders from across different industries. The keynote speaker, Troy Bader, CEO of International Dairy Queen, was definitely a highlight of the event for me. Hearing his humble story, from his upbringing to how he became the leader he is today, was incredibly inspiring. I feel very honored to be among the students who had the opportunity to meet him and hear him speak. Overall, this experience has inspired me to be someone who isn’t afraid to try new things and to become more comfortable with being uncomfortable. Seeing the behind-the-scenes process come together and then watching the event play out made me even more grateful for the opportunities UND has given me. A special thank you to Sarah Barry Nupdal, Lynn Barnhart, and Jonathan Warrey for taking the time to talk with me and share their experiences and advice. I am so grateful for the connections I was able to make throughout this experience and excited to continue growing as a student, leader, and future marketer.

Troy Bader liked thisTroy Bader liked thisToday, I had the opportunity to attend the Morrison Leadership Summit at the University of North Dakota, and I left with a lot to reflect on. One of the highlights of the day was getting to meet my Pancratz Career Development Center Mentor Program mentor, Lynn Barnhart, in person. I’m so grateful for the opportunity to learn from her and build a relationship that I know will continue to shape my time at UND. Our keynote speaker, Troy Bader, CEO of International Dairy Queen, shared several lessons that really stuck with me: the importance of being a lifelong learner, playing in the middle of the court, being comfortable with the uncomfortable, and remembering that there are no shortcuts to leadership. I also had the opportunity to participate in roundtable conversations with successful business professionals and UND graduates. Hearing their experiences and learning from people who once sat in the same classrooms I do was such a valuable reminder of the impact that UND can have long after graduation. Barbara Morrison also spoke about the importance and purpose of the summit being held in honor of Dale Morrison, and one message in particular stayed with me: the importance of upholding your university and being proud of where you come from. That message made me reflect on just how proud I am to be a student of the UND Nistler College of Business & Public Administration at the University of North Dakota. Days like today remind me that being a UND student is about more than just earning a degree. It’s about the people you meet, the relationships you build, the lessons you carry with you, and the community you become a part of. Grateful for a day full of learning, connection, and a few reminders of the kind of leader I want to become. 💚

Troy Bader liked thisTroy Bader liked thisOver the past six weeks of my internship with the Dean’s Office of UND Nistler College of Business & Public Administration, I have been helping to plan the annual Morrison Leadership Summit. From graphics and posts to seating charts and planning for contingencies, I was able to learn invaluable skills about Event Marketing and Coordination. Today, not only was I able to see all of the behind the scenes work come to life, but I was also nominated by Nistler faculty to participate. The event consisted of round table discussions with many successful UND alumni and an amazing Keynote Speaker, Troy Bader, the CEO and president of Dairy Queen. Not only was I able to network with these leaders, but I was also able to learn what employers are looking for in their new hires, how to work your way up the ranks, and once you get here, how to lead with confidence. I’m so grateful for these opportunities and I am excited to see where they take me next!

Troy Bader liked thisTroy Bader liked thisToday I had the chance to attend the Morrison Leadership Summit hosted by the UND Nistler College of Business & Public Administration! It was an interesting event where students were able to participate in roundtable discussions with leaders from various industries. The discussion was followed by a keynote speech by Troy Bader current President and CEO of International Dairy Queen. I enjoyed all of my roundtable discussions, but a few of the pieces of advice from current Grand Forks City Administrator, Todd Feland, stuck out to me. He noted the importance of embracing imperfection because perfection is hard and often unattainable. He advised each of us to be leaders who make others better and to have high aspirations but low expectations. I appreciated his words of motivation while he also emphasized the importance of being realistic and not letting challenges discourage us. The keynote speech touched on several leadership strategies including: 1. There are no shortcuts to leadership 2. Get comfortable being uncomfortable 3. Be a life-long learner 4. Play in the middle of the court Each point had an interesting explanation, but the second point was the one that struck me the most while listening. During this section, Mr. Bader shared his work experience and his journey to becoming the CEO of Dairy Queen. He highlighted that we often try to get to a point in our careers where we are comfortable, experts, and know what we are doing. However, he argued that none of those things should cause us to overlook opportunities. I found this perspective to be interesting because it contrasts the idea I have had in my mind over the past few years thinking about my future. To my surprise, I think this new perspective is instead what I want to strive for. I do not want to go into my future with a predetermined limit on what I can achieve, but instead to always be ready for unexpected opportunities. I want to thank all of the leaders who came to UND today to share their expertise with us and to Troy Bader for giving a fantastic speech. A special thank you to Barbara Morrison for her encouragement to "remember your university." Of course, thank you to UND Nistler College of Business & Public Administration for hosting this amazing event! 💚 🤍

Troy Bader liked thisTroy Bader liked thisToday I went to UND’s Morrison Leadership Summit. The morning was spent in roundtable conversations with UND alumni and business leaders about careers, sales, AI, leadership, and running a business. Later, Troy Bader, President and CEO of Dairy Queen, gave the keynote. During the Q&A, I asked him, "When you are leading a team, how do you make people care?" He said the heart has to come from within, but a leader can help bring it out. People need to understand what they’re working toward, believe in it, know how their own goals fit, and feel included and valued. Next season, I’ll be hiring a team for NorthLine Curbing, and one of my biggest challenges will be keeping the same level of care and quality as more people become involved. I learned a lot from Troy and the other leaders I talked with today, and I know a lot of it will help as I figure out how to lead a team of my own. Thanks to the UND Nistler College of Business & Public Administration and everyone who came back to the University of North Dakota to spend time with students today.

Troy Bader liked thisTroy Bader liked this10 years, and he's just getting started! 🎉 This month, we're celebrating Shane Hersch, CFRE, CGPA, FCEP's 10-year work anniversary with the UND Alumni Association & Foundation. Over the past decade, Shane has consistently gone above and beyond in everything he does. Whether he's helping donors find the philanthropic opportunities that align with their goals or supporting and encouraging his colleagues, Shane brings dedication, thoughtfulness, and a team-first mindset to every interaction. What stands out most is how deeply he cares about the work he does. His commitment to our mission, our donors, and our team makes a lasting impact every day. Outside of work, you'll often find Shane cheering on UND Basketball, especially when Rivalry Day rolls around each year, or spending time with family and friends. Despite being born and raised in North Dakota, he's somehow never laced up a pair of skates. Maybe it's time to add that to the 2027 goals list! 🏒 Thank you, Shane, for your hard work, leadership, and countless contributions over the past 10 years. We're grateful to have you on our team and look forward to the years ahead.👏

But a career fair might be the first time they discover the jobs and roles behind it. That’s one of the big reasons our team makes it a priority to spend time on college campuses throughout the year. Career fairs give us the chance to meet the next generation of talent, learn what they’re looking for in an employer and introduce them to the many different career paths with the DQ brand. Earlier this month, one of our recruiters, Brooke M., along with our packaging manager, Krishna M., had the chance to do just that as they spoke to students interested in the packaging field about co-op opportunities.

Steakhouse sales are growing, despite record-high beef prices. Recent data shows U.S. steak restaurant sales increased by more than 5% last year, outpacing many other full-service dining segments. That kind of growth points to sustained demand for premium protein, even in a higher-cost environment. What’s interesting is how this highlights evolving consumer behaviour—some diners are still prioritizing quality and experience, while others are shifting toward value and convenience. It’s a reminder that even as prices rise, certain categories continue to show resilience when demand is strong. 🎧 Listen to the full episode: https://lnkd.in/efQAQ8zs #FoodIndustry #Retail #RestaurantIndustry #ConsumerBehavior #FoodTrends #Beef #CPG #Hospitality #Dining #BusinessInsights #Economy #FoodService #Leadership #FutureOfFood #Podcast

Jessica Dunker of Iowa Restaurant Association urges operators to balance passion and profit. The most successful restaurant owners understand they're running a BUSINESS first. Even if it's Grandma's famous recipe, successful operators have the discipline to remove menu items that aren't making money and can recognize best-selling from most-profitable options.
