Will Kohler shared thisWe hosted Coach K with 20+ founders. 5 NCAA championships. 3 Olympic golds. 42 seasons at Duke - ranked #1 in 21. Here are 4 lessons that stood out … 1. Standards > Rules Coach K never had rules. Not at Duke. Not with the Redeem Team. His logic: "You never own a rule. You obey it or disobey it." Standards are different - your team owns and enforces them, and holds each other accountable. When he coached LeBron, Kobe, and Wade at the 2008 Olympics, the first meeting was a standards meeting. The players built 15 standards together. In the 11 years Coach K led USA Basketball, no one was ever late, and they never had a bad practice. They won 77 straight games. The standards your team builds together (and enforces without you in the room) define culture. If accountability only flows down from the leader, it doesn't scale. 2. The will to prepare > the will to win Everyone wants to win; that's table stakes. Coach K's mentor Bob Knight drilled this into him: "The will to prepare to win is more important than the will to win." Someone asked if he prepared differently for championship games. His answer: "No. Every game is a championship." If you only turn it on for the big moments, you're not building a culture. You're gambling. For founders: your board meeting prep shouldn't look different from your Monday standup. If the intensity only shows up when investors are watching, your team knows. 3. "Bring your egos in." Coach K disagreed with "leave your egos at the door." He told them: "Bring your egos in - and put them under one umbrella. If we do that, we'll rule the world." His logic was simple. Kobe, LeBron, and Wade weren't going to leave their egos behind. Instead of fighting that, he gave them a goal big enough to absorb all of it: win gold for the United States. It worked. Kobe - the leading scorer in the NBA - volunteered to be the team's defensive stopper because he wanted to win gold more than anything. Hire elite talent and give them a goal that is ambitious enough that their egos work for the team. 4. Speed to trust is the only speed that matters Most entrepreneurs are thinking about AI, automation, velocity. Coach K thinks about a different kind of speed: "The speed to trust. When you say something to me, will I trust you immediately?" He learned this at West Point through the honor code: you don't lie, cheat, or steal. Every cadet's word was believed instantly. He spent his entire career trying to recreate that environment where trust is the default. His two non-negotiables since age 28: - When we talk, we look each other in the eye. - We always tell each other the truth. That's it. Everything else, the championships, the culture, the 77-game win streak were downstream of those two things. Grateful to Coach K for spending time with our founders and being a guidepost on leadership. cc Anoushka Vaswani, Galym Imanbayev, MD, Josh Machiz, Sachin Patel, Sebastian Duesterhoeft, Lightspeed

Will Kohler shared thisHey Arif, it’s been an absolute blast working side by side with you all these years. Congratulations on an unbelievable run and so excited for your next journey! Will Kohler shared this18 years ago, I left Cisco to learn the art and craft of venture capital at an emerging firm called Lightspeed. The years go slowly, and then they go fast. Looking back on my tenure at Lightspeed, it’s humbling and inspiring to see what the team here has achieved and how much we have grown. Now, I’m embarking on a new adventure of my own. I’m excited to start and build a new, early-stage venture firm. I will remain a Venture Partner at Lightspeed, serve on a number of my existing boards and continue to collaborate with my partners here. I’m incredibly grateful to Lightspeed’s Founders - Ravi Mhatre, Barry Eggers, Chris Schaepe and Peter Nieh - for taking a shot on me back when I had black hair. Thank you for the mentorship, for the opportunity to come and do my best work, and for the trust and responsibility you gave me over the years. And thank you to Bejul Somaia for the guidance, partnership and advice. I’m appreciative of my partners and teammates at Lightspeed who over the years have become friends and family. And I’m very thankful to the Founders who I’ve been fortunate to partner with over the past two decades, many from the earliest stages of their company journeys. Will Kohler shared thisWe at Lightspeed just led Ramp's $300M fundraising. The simplest vision statements are often the most powerful. They have clarity and purpose, and serve as a rallying cry and organizational principles. Eric Glyman and Karim Atiyeh's vision at Ramp is so clear. Make every business more profitable, helping them save time and money. They are building toward “autonomous finance”, unifying multiple systems into a single platform, re-orienting the system of record toward an agentic system of action that finance teams live in. And they’re doing this at an incredible velocity. Ramp ships faster than many early-stage startups and AI businesses. AI is a core part of not just the product but every part of how the company runs, from HR to marketing to engineering and more. They are a magnet for exceptional talent, from leading researchers to math champions to IOI medalists. And the coolest part … they are one of a few application companies in our portfolio where the team is working tirelessly to build a product that they ultimately want their customers never to log into. Bringing us closer to the future, namely finance work that does itself. This round is the culmination and testament to what their entire team has built and worked toward, not just this year but over the past six. As we've gotten to spend more time with the team, it has become clear that Ramp is one of the uniquely special companies we look for in our ecosystem, a combination of: massive market, customer obsession, relentless execution and velocity, generational team, and multi-product story with accelerating growth at scale. That is why we're making Ramp one of our highest conviction investments. We're thrilled and humbled to partner with them for many years to come. Thank you, Eric Glyman, Karim Atiyeh, Zach Frankel, Colin Kennedy, William Petrie, Fax Herbert, and the entire Ramp team for letting Sachin Patel, Justin Shen, Bejul Somaia, Lisa Han, Justin Overdorff, Ravi Mhatre, Sebastian Duesterhoeft, and the rest of Team LSVP be part of the journey. Will Kohler shared thisToday Ramp raised $300 million at a $32 billion valuation. We're growing 10x faster than the median publicly traded SaaS company. Revenue, customers, and feature velocity doubling in the past year. Why? We're in a new era. One where money can think. Money now has intelligence -- before a dollar leaves it checks for fraud and if you have permission to spend it. It has memory. So as it moves it leaves a complete audit trail and updates budgets. And it can reason. So once it's spent it tells you if it was well used, underused, or wasted. All this is why the median Ramp customer saves 5% while growing revenue 12% year over year. The most disciplined and fastest-growing teams choose Ramp because it helps them scale more efficiently. We're working hard to bring that advantage to every business. We hope to have the opportunity to work hard for you and your company soon. Will Kohler shared thisCongratulations to the awesome team at Assort Health on their Series B! They’re tackling one of the most complex challenges in healthcare, improving patient access. Lightspeed is truly proud to lead this round and support this team during such a vital time in their journey. Thank you for the trust, Jon Wang and Jeffery L.! Onward! Will Kohler shared thisA patient’s journey shouldn’t start with “please hold.” Today, we’re announcing $102M to ensure it never happens again. Ten years ago, Galym and I shook hands on our first venture—a small nonprofit with a big ambition to make healthcare investing more impactful. Today, we’re partnering again in a new way: a $76M Series B featured in Fortune and led by Lightspeed, which brings Assort Health's total funding to $102M. Galym is joining our board, and we’re thrilled to welcome Paul Ricci (founding CEO of Nuance Communications) as a board advisor. I left UCSF med school and Stanford AI research because I couldn’t accept that patients spend more time waiting on hold than with their doctors. Assort Health is making sure they never have to again. The funding will be used to scale Assort OS: an all-in-one patient experience platform powered by agentic AI via voice, text, web, and email. It handles the most complex aspects of access, including scheduling, care navigation, lab coordination, prescription renewals, referrals, and more. Before: endless hold times, wrong doctors, missed care. After: seamless scheduling, faster care, happier patients. What this means in practice: 89% shorter wait times, 98% resolution rates, and patient ratings > 4.6/5 across hundreds of organizations—driven by tens of millions of patient interactions at thousands of providers. To every practice and health system tired of hold music: we’d love to show you a better way. And if you’re excited to help us build the future of patient access, we’re hiring across growth, ops, and engineering. With Assort, we’re ending the dreaded hold music—once and for all! Huge appreciation to all of our investors for this round: Lightspeed, Felicis, First Round Capital, Chemistry, Quiet Capital, A*, Liquid 2 Ventures, Apolo Ohno, Joe Montana. Thank you to Allie Garfinkle for telling our story so thoughtfully. You can find it in the comments. —and finally, to the Assort team, who are in the arena and shipping product for patients every day! ------------------------------------- Thankful to our many supporters Brenton Fargnoli, M.D., Sebastian Duesterhoeft, Will Kohler, Bill Trenchard, Kristina Shen, Matt Humphrey, Mark Goldberg, Ethan Kurzweil, Amit Garg, Ian Feeney, Ali Javid, Bobby Green, M.D., Cameron Woodward, Aditya Khosla, Allison Pickens, Jay Desai, Andrew Tan, Jenny Friedman, Immad Akhund, Umesh Khanna, Kemuel Carey, Parinita Amin, Titus Abraham, Mandy McClellan, Roy Rosin, Emery Rosansky, and many more. Will Kohler reposted thisWill Kohler reposted thisBuilding an iconic, enduring company isn’t easy. Ringing the Nasdaq bell to celebrate an IPO is just as hard and rare. Today we are proud to celebrate Netskope’s first day as a public company - an important and exciting milestone in a journey that is still only just beginning. Congratulations to the Netskope team, and co-founders Sanjay Beri, Krishna Narayanaswamy, Ravi Ithal and Lebin Cheng on today’s IPO! Lightspeed first invested in Netskope’s Series B in 2013 (6 months after their Series A) and continued to reinvest over the last 12 years. What we saw then and continue to see now is a team that’s not afraid to tackle hard challenges, build for the long term, and put customers first. Their early vision to build an iconic, independent security platform focused on networking and security for the cloud and AI era was as exciting in 2013 as it is now. It’s been an incredible privilege to serve on the Netskope board since almost the very beginning, and an honor to ring the bell today with Sanjay, the Netskope team, and our friends on the Netskope board - Eric Wolford (Accel), Will Griffith (ICONIQ), Enrique Salem and Kimberly Alexy. Congratulations to the entire Netskope team on building an iconic, independent secure platform. We are excited for this next phase in their company’s journey and to celebrate with them today. Will Kohler shared thisI remember when @Eric Glyman first talked about his vision for Lightspeed-backed Ramp: software that didn’t just track spend, but made finance teams faster, smarter, and more strategic. That vision has become reality. Ramp is now helping over 40,000 companies automate some of the most painful parts of finance, and their AI agents are just getting started. Proud to back this $500M Series E-2 and an amazing team that’s redefining the future of finance. Read more on @The Wall Street Journal: https://lnkd.in/gFVWwtu3 Sachin Patel Lisa Han Justin Overdorff Justin ShenWill Kohler shared thisToday, Ramp raised $500M at a $22.5B valuation. Finance is at an inflection point. How does an industry change? Gradually, then suddenly. Decades where nothing happens; months where decades happen. Now, we’re teaching software to think like people. If you’re reading this, you're probably trusting us to run your finances – we’re saving millions of you billions of dollars and hours a year – and we’re deeply grateful for your trust. But here's the reality: we still serve just 1.5% of businesses in the US. 98.5% to go. Long road ahead, excited to build towards something very impactful over the coming years.

Will Kohler liked thisWill Kohler liked thisToday, I’m starting my next chapter as a Partner at Lightspeed. The day after GSB graduation, I met Ravi Mhatre for the 1st time after a casual meet with Bejul Somaia. After that, the conversation never really stopped. It became obvious pretty quickly that this was a once in a lifetime opportunity: the chance to learn from one of the best to ever do it, on a team at the frontier of AI. Bejul and Ravi, thank you for your conviction. Sebastian, Will, Faraz, Sachin, Guru, Raviraj, and the whole Lightspeed team: I can't wait. Shared values, different spikes. Lightspeed embodies ultra-competitive with a heart a gold. I'll be investing across stages in AI, from specialized models to AI apps to defense and reindustrialization to robotics. My goal is simple: help make Lightspeed the first call for the best founders in the world, when they're raising and when they have a problem. Then, doing everything in my power to help them fulfill their life’s mission. If you're building, or not even building yet, I'd love to meet you. Investors who want to collaborate too. Will Kohler liked thisWill Kohler liked thisPayhawk just hit $100M ARR to reach Centaur status, joining the roughly 250 private software companies worldwide to hit the milestone, a club that Bessemer Venture Partners estimates is around 7 times more rare than the $1B unicorn. By Q4, every 1 in 500 commercial card payments in Europe will be made with a Payhawk card. And what I am most proud of is the journey it took us to get here. We burnt $120M to generate $100M ARR giving us a burn multiple of 1.2x while companies from the 2020-2021 cohort often go public with 2-3x burn multiple at the time of their IPO. Over the past 24 months, we have not only rebuilt our product to be AI-native fully served by agents, but we have also reinvented our internal operations. Today, we are adding 159% more net new business with 10% less people in sales than a year ago, growing our payments volumes by 95% YoY, and our employee efficiency in the past year has increased by 75% measured by ARR per FTE. 76% of our support is fully managed by AI, we are shipping 57% more features to our customers with 22% less regressions. We are just getting started, and we have 499 more payments to cover to get to $1B of revenue. And none of that would have been possible without the stellar team we have. 🚀🚀🚀

Will Kohler liked thisWill Kohler liked thisQuick announcement: I’m back at it with 3 board meetings this week! After stepping away last summer to deal with cancer, I’m so grateful to be returning to the work — and the people — I love at Permira. Brain tumors are a very scary business, and mine forced me to think hard about my priorities. To be cliché for a second: loving WHAT you do matters. But I found that the WHO, really motivated me the most to come back. I feel so energized to be part of a great investing team backing ambitious management teams led by the likes of Tony Bates,Tom Eggemeier, Paul Segre, Rob Tarkoff and Amit Walia. Over the last nine months, the support, love and care I’ve received through radiation, chemo and surgeries has been overwhelming —and much needed. And a special thank you to my family and Stanford Health Care. A lot happens in nine months, and I’ve got a long list of celebration and thank you posts to make. I look forward to catching up with many of you in the coming months, please reach out! Very excited to get my head back in the game for one the most dynamic periods of tech investing!

Will Kohler liked thisWill Kohler liked thisSome of the most important founder conversations happen outside of boardrooms. Last week, we welcomed founders and leaders to reconnect with nature in beautiful Park City, Utah, for the Ideas Move at Lightspeed Retreat. This was an intimate two-day experience designed to bring innovative minds together to share insights, build relationships, and accelerate ideas. Against the backdrop of the Wasatch Mountains at The Lodge at Blue Sky, the retreat created space for thoughtful conversations and new perspectives. A highlight of the event was a special conversation with legendary Duke Basketball coach Mike "Coach K" Krzyzewski, who shared powerful lessons on leadership, trust, teamwork, and building enduring cultures. Knowing how to build and lead a winning team is a skill that transcends industry. Thank you to the founders and leaders who joined us for an inspiring few days of collaboration.

Will Kohler liked thisWill Kohler liked thisI’m very excited to announce a new Handshake campaign with OpenAI. This is another step forward in our mission to enable anyone to earn, learn, and grow their skills in the AI economy. I hear it all the time from our customers. AI skills have moved very rapidly from a cute line on your resume (“Skilled in ChatGPT research”) to a requirement for employees to SHOW (not just tell) how they can leverage AI to drive value. Employers need team members who can use AI to more effectively solve problems and scale their work across every industry and job role, from engineering to marketing, sales to finance, teaching to strategy. The good news: Gen Z are AI natives. Our data shows 80% of college seniors are using generative AI tools, with 24% using them daily. The opportunity now is to turn that usage into real capability. To help everyone unleash their inner builder. Through this campaign, students will get access to Codex, OpenAI’s coding agent, so they can build projects, experiment with real tools, and develop skills that translate directly to the workplace. We’re proud to be working with employers like GEICO, L'Oréal, KPFF Consulting Engineers, and ZS who are helping give everyone the tools to build their AI skills.

The “Wiz effect” isn’t just hype - it’s impacting valuations across 30% of our deal flow at StageOne. Wiz was built by operators who had already scaled inside a Fortune 500 company. That context matters more than most investors admit. The $32B Wiz exit was a milestone for Israeli tech (and a masterclass in clarity, execution, and scale). But what fascinates me more is what happened next. From where I sit, the “Wiz effect” is no longer just a headline, it’s become a pricing mechanism. We’re now seeing cybersecurity startups raise $15-20M seed rounds - sometimes pre-product, often pre-revenue - based on the hope of replicating an outlier. But what made Wiz extraordinary wasn’t just the outcome. It was the inputs: a second-time founding team with deep domain credibility, a bold platform vision, and a network that allowed them to raise fast and execute faster. That kind of playbook can’t be copied. It was earned - through hard-won experience and flawless timing. What concerns me now is how distorted the early-stage cybersecurity market has become. Great founders are being benchmarked against a company that was, in every sense, the exception - not the rule. At StageOne Ventures, cybersecurity makes up nearly 30% of our pipeline. We’re not pulling back, but we are raising the bar. Founders: If you’re building in cyber, we want to meet you. But let’s align on ambition and execution, because the market is watching, and timing alone won’t build you a Wiz.

DealWire.TECH Deal of the Week Ridgeline $250m Series E Ridgeline has raised $250 million in Series E funding at a $1.425 billion valuation to expand its AI-native investment management platform. The round was led by founder and chairman Dave Duffield, co-founder of PeopleSoft and Workday. Participants included Motley Fool Ventures, associates of Smead Capital Management, and Patrick O’Shaughnessy. What makes this deal interesting is the ambition: bringing portfolio accounting, trading, compliance, reporting, and client servicing onto a unified platform with a shared data foundation and embedded AI. For asset and wealth managers, fragmented systems create significant operational costs. Teams reconcile data, transfer information between applications, and maintain complex integrations. A unified platform could reduce that workload and give AI access to the context needed to support more complete workflows. Three points stand out: • Customer participation in the financing is a meaningful endorsement, although it does not by itself establish broad market adoption. • The capital will support AI development, managed services, product expansion, and growth in Canada and Europe. • Implementation remains the critical test. Replacing core investment systems requires reliable migrations, strong controls, and measurable operational benefits. My view: some of the most valuable enterprise AI businesses will emerge where trusted data and essential workflows come together. Investment management is a compelling market for that approach—but execution will determine who wins. #DealWire #FinTech #ArtificialIntelligence #InvestmentManagement #VentureCapital

Big milestone for Firmable. We’ve raised $14m Series A led by Airtree. Sales has moved through a few big waves: intuition-led, CRM-led, data-led. We’re now entering the next one – intelligence-led sales. The opportunity isn’t just better data. It’s turning that data into clear direction and action, without adding more work for sales teams. That’s what we’re building at Firmable: a foundation of trusted external data, layered with intelligence that helps sellers know who to focus on and when. Led by Airtree, this round supports our expansion across Asia and into the US – and accelerates the build-out of AI agents that take the admin work off sales teams so they can focus on what they do best. Proud of the team, grateful to our customers and investors. We’re just getting started. Yesterday, two DCVC-backed companies raised about a half billion dollars. In today's funding environment, that's not that exceptional... Together, the two companies just happen to enable gigawatt-scale AI compute, except in the unprecedentedly small space of only about 40 shipping containers, no exotic cooling required. You have to wonder what the US military might do with a gigawatt-equivalent of compute they could fit in a few C5 flights... or a 100MW-compute platform that fits in a single rocket launch... Even that, in DCVC's world, isn't that exceptional. We like to say we help make the impossible and essential, profitable and available. But what is exceptional, and this is a theme with us folks, is that they are each only two of many of our companies delivering robustly on outcomes considered impossible on VC dollars or in reasonable time, at the point when we backed each company from very early on: - a safe, cost-effective, meltdown-proof, truck-portable 1 megawatt nuclear reactor (Radiant, see https://lnkd.in/gF3JAHwS) for American energy dominance - American-made AI semiconductor chips that match or outperform everything else at 100x the energy efficiency, on off-the-shelf models (Mythic, see https://lnkd.in/gWFdvZFT) We were able to make the calls on these, and how they could work together, along with similar calls on all of their brother and sister impossible companies, because of a very deep bench of unified scientific, engineering, operational, and business building experience considered passé by a lot of other folks. It's how we make the exceptional routine.

🚨NEW EPISODE: Recorded live at FUTURE TITANS 2026 - Jeff Perry of Carta sat down with the iconic Seth Levine, co-founder of Foundry. Seth has been in venture for 25 years, built Foundry from scratch as an emerging manager himself, and has backed about 50 emerging manager funds through his fund of funds. He has genuinely seen every side of this table. They went deep on building Foundry, why VCs are in the influence business, not the decision business, and why the concentration problem in venture is not only bad for LPs, but also for the innovation ecosystem overall. And why Seth's new book, Capital Evolution, is so important for the future of America. 🎧 Links to listen... Apple: https://lnkd.in/ehQUQ2EM Spotify: https://lnkd.in/eU4FExpg
