Last week at the #BROInnovatingForAgriculture event in Warsaw, I had the opportunity to present the work of Climate KIC and how we support climate innovation across agriculture and rural areas. As Europe’s leading climate innovation agency and community, Climate KIC works at the intersection of innovation, finance and place-based transformation — and this is exactly the perspective we aimed to bring to the discussion. During my presentation, I highlighted: 🌿 ClimAccelerator programmes – supporting start-ups with the knowledge, networks and funding they need to launch and scale climate solutions. 🌿 Place Finance Lab – a coalition designing innovative finance instruments to accelerate landscape regeneration and resilient local food and fibre economies, including the COMHAR-BIA cooperative biorefinery pilot in Ireland. 🌿I also emphasised the importance of collaboration and systemic approaches through initiatives such as the Green Horizons Farmers Network, the Soil Innovation Partnership (SIP), and research & innovation projects including HarvRESt project and Climate Farm Demo — all contributing to healthier soils, climate adaptation and resilient farming systems. The brokerage format created valuable space for meaningful exchanges, partnership building and even exploring funding pathways beyond Horizon Europe Cluster 6. A sincere thank you to the EU CAP Network team for the excellent organisation and for fostering a platform where innovation, finance and practice can truly connect. Looking forward to continuing the conversations and translating them into impactful collaborations across Europe. #BROInnovatingForAgriculture # ClimateInnovation #SustainableAgriculture #RuralDevelopment

Karen Chelangat, Chief Innovation Officer at Jacob's Ladder Africa (JLA), delivered a brief overview of the greenlabs Powering Food Systems Innovation Challenge and the journey of Cohort 2. She walked the audience through the vision behind greenlabs, a platform designed to identify and support early-stage, pre-seed innovators developing renewable energy solutions. The overview reinforced the partnership between Consumer Advocacy and Empowerment Foundation (CADEF) and Jacob's Ladder Africa (JLA) in driving youth-led solutions that respond to real challenges. The greenlabs Powering Food Systems Innovation Challenge Demo Day marks the culmination of weeks of refinement, mentorship, and growth, and today, these innovators step forward ready to demonstrate solutions that could shape the future of powered food systems. 🌊 From Intention to Access: A Founder’s Moment at the Blue Economy Summit. When I received the invitation from Sote Hub to attend the Blue Economy Summit, I approached it with one objective: strategic positioning. Before the summit began, I reviewed the speakers and stakeholders carefully. One person I was determined to connect with was Brenda Kibiku. My interest was clear — to explore how the Blue Economy can unlock scalable, decent jobs for youth through aquaculture, value addition, and climate-resilient enterprise models. Day 2 presented an unexpected opportunity. The SPARK Connect Cocktail was an invite-only session — a curated room of funders, ecosystem builders, and high-growth founders. Access was limited. Brenda Kibiku held a founder’s pass. She asked a question. I was the first to respond. That response became my entry into the room. Inside, the conversations were different. Less theory. More capital strategy. More scalability. More technology integration. More structured ecosystem building. For me, this was more than networking — it was market validation. It confirmed that the future of aquaculture in Africa will be built on: ✔ Climate resilience. ✔ Technology-enabled production. ✔ Structured value chains. ✔ Scalable financing mechanisms. At G-FARM AQUA-SOLUTIONS., we are building exactly at that intersection — aquaculture production, youth employment, clean water integration, and value-added market systems through Samaki Soko Hub. The Blue Economy is not just an environmental conversation. It is a capital opportunity. And the founders who prepare, position, and execute will define the next decade of sustainable growth in Africa. Grateful for access. Over the past six months, as part of the Digital and Green Innovation (DGI) Action team, I had the opportunity to work closely with innovators across #Africa and the #Asia-Pacific who are developing practical solutions to address climate challenges. What stands out is how local, community-driven #innovation can create meaningful impact far beyond its immediate context. Small, targeted actions on the ground are contributing to broader global change. Over the coming weeks, we will be launching a series of videos featuring these innovators and their work. Stay tuned as these stories unfold.
