Stone fruit production can be complex, with a huge range of cultivars and different markets preferring unique taste profiles, ripeness and even fruit size. The full range of stone fruit is grown successfully in the Western Cape due to its Mediterranean climate of cool, wet winters and warm dry summers. The region also benefits from its number of microclimates that allow the industry to supply customers from early to late season. Farmers are constantly innovating to develop new cultivars and ensure they are adapting at the same time as the markets are. #southafrica #southafricanfruit #stonefruit #peaches #nectarines #southernhemisphere #exports #fruit #freshproduce #beautifulcountrybeautifulfruit #cultivars #markets #microclimates #innovation

From sidestreams to value streams. Source; Intrafish As quotas tighten and pressure on fish stocks increases, Royal Greenland is accelerating its focus on full utilization across cod, shrimp, and crab. New initiatives launching this year include cod liver oil, 100% shrimp utilization (in partnership with the Iceland Ocean Cluster), and the upcycling of crab boil water into flavor solutions for the food industry. Long‑standing products like shrimp meal are also being re‑evaluated, with new applications emerging in pharmaceuticals and nutraceuticals. Operating 37 sites in western Greenland and one in the east, all without road connections, makes sidestream utilization far more complex than in Iceland or the Faroes. Logistics rely entirely on boats, limiting centralized processing and demanding smarter, locally adapted solutions. Despite these challenges, Royal Greenland expects side stream projects to generate DKK 50 million in additional revenue, with further upside through the right partnerships and value chains. The message is clear: 🔹 Maximize value from every part of the catch 🔹 Build practical systems, not over‑diversification 🔹 Turn geographic constraints into innovation drivers Sustainability, resilience, and profitability go hand in hand.
