The Nellie & Fred Chasin Screenwriting Award

Michael Chasin is a South Florida based award-winning screenwriter and screenplay consultant. He honors the art of storytelling through the Nellie & Fred Chasin Screenwriting Award, named in memory of his late parents. This award celebrates writers who craft unforgettable characters, engaging dialogue, and compelling narratives that linger long after the credits roll.
Open to Florida High School and Florida College Students
$1,000 Award
Funds are awarded in the student's name.
Please Review All Criteria Prior To Developing Your Script
SCREENPLAYS MUST BE IN INDUSTRY STANDARD FORMATTING
All work must be original; adaptations are not allowed.
Submissions are to be written in the English language and in the
U.S. Motion Picture industry standard screenplay format and be between 5 and 20 pages in length.
Screenplays may be written in any of the industry standard software.
Screenplays will be judged on the following set of criteria:
Story: Original/Creative
Hero: Defined/Unique/Goals
Characters: Original/Fully Realized
Structure: Setup/Conflict/Resolution
Dialogue: Consistent/Unique/Economical
The Page: Formatting/Readability/Descriptions
Emotion: Thought-Provoking/Engaging/Satisfying
SUBMISSION PROCESS:
1. Register as an applicant by clicking the Submit Your Project button below, which will direct you to the FilmFreeway platform for the SSOF. If you don't already have an account with FilmFreeway, you must create a free account to upload and submit your project.
2. Once on the FilmFreeway, click the Green SUBMIT NOW Button select your category to complete the submission process including uploading your screenplay.
