Baby Girl Names That Start With 'R': 115 Cute, Classy and Cool Options

From timeless classics like Rebecca to modern favorites such as Riley, R names for girls continue to blend tradition and trend.

From classic choices like Rachel and Rebecca to trending favorites such as Remi and River, R names for girls balance tradition with modern appeal. They are also among the most charming and versatile.

In 2025, the most popular baby girl names beginning with the letter “R” in the United States were Riley, Ruby, Rose and Raelynn.

But don’t worry — “R” names aren’t especially common. Riley, the most used baby girl name from 2025, isn’t in the top 20 names on the Social Security Administration’s list. In fact, Riley doesn’t appear until number 48.

Name expert Laura Wattenberg describes “R” names as “one of the steadiest initials for girls,” and tells TODAY.com that they have remained consistently popular over time without dramatic swings in trends.

For the first time since the 1800s, “R” is no longer primarily associated with Biblical names for girls, according to Wattenberg. Historically, names like Ruth, Rebecca, and Rachel dominated the landscape.

“Now, the top ‘R’ name is Riley, which is more popular than anyone would think,” Wattenberg says. She explains that Riley, in particular, has been bolstered by the sheer number of spelling variations — Riley, Rylee, Rylie, and more — allowing parents to give a familiar name a personalized twist.

With the exception of Riley, the most popular “R” names lean heavily toward nature-inspired choices, says Wattenberg, who points to names like Rosemary, Rose and Ruby.

Another popular style is what Wattenberg calls “miniature names,” which are short, melodic name choices such as Rhea, Roma and Rena.

If you're looking to the stars (as in celebrities) for inspiration, there are plenty of famous faces with great “R” monikers.

Female personalities with “R” names include: Rosa Parks, Rosalind Franklin, Rachel McAdams, Rihanna, Reese Witherspoon, Rebel Wilson, Rosamund Pike, Rita Hayworth, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Rashida Jones, Rosalia, Rosé of Blackpink and Renee Elise Goldsberry.

Movie stars and celebrities are also fond of picking "R" names for their daughters, some of whom include: Raddix (Cameron Diaz), Ramona (Maggie Gyllenhaal), Rani (Kate Hudson), Rumi (Beyoncé), Reign (Kourtney Kardashian), Remy (Billy Joel) and Romy (Sofia Coppola).

And of course all three of Rihanna and A$AP Rocky’s kids have unique “R” names: RZA, Riot and Rocki.
