Races in Final Fantasy

Besides the Miqo’te, the popular MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV has eight other playable races to build your character. If you want to know more about these races and what they are like, then continue reading for a brief overview!

  • Au Ra: The Au Ra are humanoid figures marked by their horns, scales, and lizard-like tails. There are two distinct types of Au Ra: the peaceful, settled light-scaled Raen and the wandering, warring dark-scaled Xaela.
  • Viera: The Viera are humanoid figures marked by their rabbit traits, including long ears and hare-like feet. They live a very long time and most do not ever leave the place in which they were born. Most Viera are women, and their society is matriarchal.
  • Miqo’te: The Miqo’te are humanoid figures with cat ears and tails, as well as distinct skin colors ranging from orange to blue. The Miqo’te are split between the patriarchal Seekers of the Sun who operate during the day and the matriarchal Keepers of the Moon who are nocturnal.
  • Grothgar: The Grothgar are another race with cat-like attributes, but in contrast to the Miqo’te they have far more animalistic features, including feline faces and fur-covered bodies. They are divided into the Helion, who serve the Grothgar queen, and the Lost, who are independent nomadic wanderers.
  • Lalafell: The Lalafell are short humanoid figures with pointy ears and various shades of skin and hair colors. They are split between the Plainsfolk and the Dunesfolk, with the former living in thatched huts in the grasslands and the latter living in built structures on the backs of their desert herds.
  • Roegadyn: The Roegadyn are tall, muscled humanoid figures with various bright skin tones. Roegadyn who are Sea Wolves are fishermen by trade and continue to be employed in naval affairs, while the Hellsguard are volcanic dwellers shaped by the harsh conditions they live in.
  • Elezen: The Elezen are humanoid figures with pointed ears and varied skin tones, including silver. The Wildwood Elezen are forest dwellers and excellent archers, and the Duskwight Elezen reside in caves, with ultra-sensitive hearing.
  • Hyur: The Hyur are basically humans. Hyur are extremely populous and display a huge diversity of cultures, languages, beliefs, and more. As such, many do not tend to form very distinct and tight clans.
