As a chemist, I’m pretty selective about the products I bring into our home. I love a fresh-smelling house just as much as anyone, but I also like knowing exactly what I’m spraying around my family, pets, bedding, and furniture. Today, I want to tell you all the ways to use a non-toxic room spray around your home.
I’ve been using this brand for years. And when I find a product I love, you will hear me talk about it all the time including all the unique ways I use it. This isn’t sponsored either, it is just something I love and want to share with you. They have no idea I am writing this post or sharing these tips with you 🙂
As we move from summer into fall, this is one product I find myself reaching for almost every day. Whether I’m freshening up bedding, tackling musty drawers, or giving the car a quick refresh before school pickup, it’s one of those simple little habits that makes a home feel cleaner and more inviting.

Why This Non-Toxic Spray Is Different Than Traditional Air Fresheners
Most traditional air fresheners rely on synthetic fragrance ingredients and petroleum-based chemicals. This one uses 100% plant-based ingredients with complete ingredient transparency, meaning you can actually see what’s inside each scent. Their sprays are also free from phthalates, parabens, and synthetic petrochemicals.
A Little Science Behind Fabric Sprays
One reason fabric sprays work so well is that soft materials like bedding, couches, rugs, and curtains tend to hold onto odor molecules much longer than hard surfaces.
When you lightly mist fabrics, the fragrance ingredients attach to those fibers and help refresh the space while masking lingering odors. Because fabrics naturally retain scent longer, they often provide a more lasting freshness than simply spraying the air alone.
That’s why I almost always spray fabrics first rather than spraying the center of a room.

My Favorite Ways To Use It Around The House
Freshening Bedding and Pillows
A quick mist over sheets, comforters, pillowcases, and decorative pillows instantly makes the bedroom feel cleaner. During the summer, I especially love using fresh scents after washing sheets or before guests arrive. The cabana and coastal tide have been my favorite summer scents.
It’s one of those little luxuries that makes climbing into bed at night feel extra relaxing.
Refreshing Couches and Upholstered Furniture
Between kids, snacks, and everyday life, couches can start feeling a little stale.
A light spray over cushions and fabric furniture helps freshen things up between deep cleanings. I especially like doing this before company comes over.
Reviving Carpets and Rugs
After vacuuming, I’ll lightly mist area rugs and carpeted spaces.
It leaves the room smelling fresh and gives everything that “just cleaned” feeling without any extra work.
Inside the Car
Summer road trips, sports practices, spilled snacks, and fast-food runs can leave a vehicle smelling less than ideal.
I keep a bottle in the car and spray fabric seats, floor mats, and the trunk area when things need a refresh. It makes a huge difference during the hottest months of the year. They even have a car freshener you can hang up! Check out more of our car cleaning hacks here.
Bathrooms
The bathroom is probably the room where I use these sprays most often.
A few sprays after showers or throughout the day keep the space smelling clean and inviting. I also like spraying bath mats and fabric shower curtains occasionally.
Musty Closets and Drawers
Have a drawer, linen closet, or storage area that smells a little stale?
A few sprays on linens, fabric bins, or closet contents can help freshen those forgotten spaces. I particularly like doing this when rotating seasonal clothing from summer to fall.
Guest Rooms
Before overnight guests arrive, I’ll freshen bedding, curtains, and decorative pillows.
It’s a simple touch that makes the room feel welcoming and well cared for.

My Favorite Summer Scents
Summer is when I gravitate toward lighter, brighter fragrances.
Some of my favorite summer scents from this brand include:
- Coastal Tide
- Cabana
- Coconut-inspired seasonal scents
- Linen
These scents make the house feel clean, airy, and perfect for warm weather. Many of their seasonal collections are only available for a limited time, so I always keep an eye out when new releases arrive! The summer ones are still available, I just restocked my coastal tide and cabana to use throughout August and save for next year 🙂
Looking Ahead To Fall
As soon as the end of August rolls around, I’m ready for cozy scents.
One thing I love about Grow Fragrance is that their seasonal collections feel sophisticated rather than overly sweet. Their fall fragrances tend to bring in warm woods, spices, and earthy notes that make your home feel cozy without smelling like a candle store exploded.
I always keep a summer scent and a fall scent on hand during the transition season.
Why It’s My Favorite Home Fragrance Product
I’ve tested a lot of home products over the years, but this is one I consistently repurchase. It has been over three years now since I purchased my first spray (spring wildflower rain).
It’s simple to use, works on both air and fabrics, comes in beautiful seasonal scents, and aligns with the ingredient standards I personally look for as a chemist.
The best part? It takes less than 30 seconds to freshen an entire room. That’s exactly the kind of home shortcut I love!

Dear Alexis, Thank you for your article. Is this fabric freshener safe to use around cats? My neighbor sells essential oils to use in diffusers. I was ready to purchase some of the oils only to find they are harmful, even deadly, for cats. I was appalled because there was no warning on the label.
I look forward to hearing your reply.
Beth
I have used this around my cat and dog for many years. It is formulated for safety for both kids and pets which is why I love it. On their FAQ list, they said they worked with vets to test for safety around household pets 🙂 Their ingredients are listed on each product, if you wanted to check with your personal veterinarian as well
Thank you so much for this damn good information
I am glad you liked it!
This is a very expensive product!!
I was truly hoping you were posting a recipe for a non toxic room spray.
I have many DIY options 🙂 they don’t work like a store-bought formulation, but they are still great to use. We have a diy autumn room spray that you can switch out the scent for. And many others! You can search room spray in the search bar and find other recipes like citrus room spray, rose spray etc. we have something for everything! If you are more interested in odor removal, you will need to choose more of a formulated spray. Feel free to email me with questions and I can help you figure out which is best for your needs. Thanks!
