Hello and welcome to the 138th edition of the Screenshot of the Week!

To start with, congratulations to the winner of the previous contest! Tobias F.'s screenshot from won with 16 upvotes!

Last week's winning screenshot one

To submit a screenshot, simply post it as an answer to this question, but please take note of the following:

  • One screenshot per post, and one post per person, please!
  • Limited picture modifications are allowed, such as cropping, simple filters, and blurring of identifying info such as names, but not adding other images or text.
  • To ensure a fair playing field, please post screenshots you've taken yourself rather than ones you found online.
  • Stack Exchange’s Code of Conduct still applies - so if it would be unacceptable to post normally, it’s unacceptable here.

Also, try to avoid pictures that include spoilers. We want everyone to be able to enjoy this contest, so the less spoilers the better.

How long will the contest run?

We will accept submissions for a week, until April 1, 2025, then have a week-long period where only voting will be accepted. This is to give every submission, even those posted at the end of the first week, a chance to be voted on by everyone.

After the end of the second week, at April 8, 2025, we will count upvotes only to determine the winning screenshot, which will be featured for a week on the main site's photo widget.

As a reminder, we're always accepting suggestions for themed weeks, and have compiled that suggestion process into a question of its own. Additionally, there is the hall of fame you can check out that contains all the previous contest winners.

@Alex I tried editing the post, but then I was reminded I don't have enough rep to edit Meta posts 👀 Commented Apr 2, 2025 at 18:29
  • @Clockwork Oh right. I forgot about that restriction. Commented Apr 2, 2025 at 20:07

I perfectly (accidentally) put my soup on the ground, and the cutscene put me in it.

Not sure anyone else minds, but I don't particularly like the black bars, especially on our main page, so I added an alternative version of the screenshot. In case more users agree, perhaps the main page version could be replaced (but I would also completely understand if people see these bars as an integral part of the gameplay, since they signify a cutscene). @Joachim Good idea. I think the black bars are cinematic, but they can get annoying sometimes. 👍 Commented Apr 10, 2025 at 16:54

screenshot taken in the The Silent Swan demo, showing a foggy townscape in the game's typical viridian hue

Not sure why but this screenshot brings back so many memories even though I never played it. I think the atmosphere reminds me of World of Warcraft's Wrath of the Lich King, along with possibly some other games (Silent Hill? Lords of Shadow?) Commented Apr 6, 2025 at 19:01

@Clockwork I can imagine it having an archetypal gamey atmosphere, now that you mention it. With Fallout 3 as its pinnacle, wasn't there a period in video gaming when "green [was] the new real"? Or was it grey, perhaps? I can't remember, but suddenly a lot of games had this monochrome filter to make it look gritty and, I suppose by psychological extension, realistic. It worked for me, though. And fog always works well in games, anyway, and has an intrinsic link with memory. Commented Apr 6, 2025 at 21:18

Yeah, there's something about fog and danger/mystery/etc. A bit like how Ridley Scott added lots of rain in Blade Runner to hide some details and it just worked along with the cyberpunk genre. Commented Apr 7, 2025 at 5:25

I tend to forget where I put myself sometimes, so I write myself a letter to remind me. Luigi talking to a mail toad giving him a letter from Luigi

This gives me some Mr. Bean vibe. There's an episode in which he gives himself letters. I think it was a Christmas episode. Commented Mar 27, 2025 at 11:55

That's how it goes living in the shadow of a more famous brother - gotta get your fan mails some other way. Commented Mar 27, 2025 at 16:43
  • @Amarth Of course. Mario gets the princess, Luigi gets the haunted house full of ghosts. It's only fair to get more fan mail than his brother. :J Commented Mar 28, 2025 at 20:37

Why are you starring at me? Do I have something in my face?

Yes.

  • All that muscle would make him look really intimidating, if he didn't have that thing on. I play too many video games to be intimidated by masks like that. :D Commented Mar 28, 2025 at 20:40
  • I never played Dragon Quest, and yet I feel it's a very Toriyama moment. Commented Mar 29, 2025 at 0:15
  • Dragon Quest looks like one of those games I've played and loved, then suddenly stopped playing it due to life being busy, and have always wanted to go back to it as soon as possible. I might have to give it a go someday. Commented Mar 29, 2025 at 23:18

Usually, the submission period is 1 week, then the voting period continues on for 1 week, for a total of 2 weeks. This one should end on 8th April so next one in theory should start either some time around 8th or 9th. Not sure. Commented Apr 5, 2025 at 18:32

Also keep in mind next week’s theme (revealed once the next SotW comes out). Your screenshot might not match up with next week’s theme. Commented Apr 6, 2025 at 0:11
