Andrew McCarthy reposted thisAndrew McCarthy reposted thisHave we lost confidence in AI, or are we becoming more thoughtful about what it takes to make AI work? Recent Notion research reveals a striking confidence gap in Australian workplaces. While 61% of decision-makers feel highly confident in their company’s AI capabilities, only 26% of employees feel the same. We’re also in a world where 52% of organisations say they are investing in AI faster than employees can adopt it. The organisations seeing the most value from AI are focusing on how they provide context from their legacy software tools first. They are thinking carefully about how they support people in a team environment, where AI can be most impactful in the business, and which tools and models are best suited to each task. An open ecosystem gives teams that flexibility where an organisation is not relying on a single model. It lets people choose the right model and workflow for the work at hand, AI has become a practical part of how teams solve problems and make progress together. However, governance must be a priority as we go on this exciting journey. I enjoyed discussing this with Anna Napoli. Thank you for the conversation to share my thoughts on what we need. Andrew McCarthy shared thisWe’ve changed our hiring profile recently. Counter to the mainstream narrative, we are hiring lots of early-career people and pairing them with industry veterans. We opened 1️⃣ 6️⃣ new BDR roles this week! I’ve found that early-career team members are AI-native (often using Notion and AI to finish school and ace university 🎓 ). They are hungry and ambitious. They are humble and creative. They also enjoy a Viking Splash Tour 😄

Andrew McCarthy shared thisWhen launching a new office, relocating top talent from an existing office is one of the best things you can do. They not only bring product and company know-how; they also install confidence in new team members, which is harder to quantify but arguably more important.

Andrew McCarthy shared thisThe traditional "golden rules" of SaaS sales (e.g. don't demo too early, don't discuss price too soon) are being disrupted by AI-era expectations (e.g. show, build, and deploy… today). The bottleneck to overcome is now less about the adoption of seats six months from now and more about the deployment of new workflows. There are still many sales managers coaching to a 2015 playbook.

Andrew McCarthy shared thisGreat early sales leaders: 1. Attract the best people (they’ve often already worked with them) 2. Open doors to new customers (they’ve often sold to them before) 3. Live the standards others want to follow Kieran is a great example of this. He joined us last month, after 13 years at HubSpot. Amazing run!! He’s only been here one month, but is making a huge impact!

Andrew McCarthy reposted thisAndrew McCarthy reposted thisFor most small businesses, figuring out where AI can be useful is just one more job alongside everything else they’re juggling. Last week, I partnered with Notion to make space for that conversation. We hosted a coffee cupping with a small group of owners + operators from San Francisco’s coffee industry. The spectrum was pretty wide -- a couple roasters had already built complex workflows for their businesses, while other operators were just getting started. We spent time discussing real workflows + challenges around inventory, taxes, logistics and quality control. We built one of these workflows live with Mitchell from Coffee Movement, using Notion AI to turn their inventory data into a weekly delivery list. This is the first in a series of conversations we’re hoping to have with small-business owners about how technology can support their work. If you run a small business and there’s a workflow you wish took less time, we’d love to hear about it!

Andrew McCarthy reposted thisAndrew McCarthy reposted thisNon-technical sleep deprived parents, 150 wedding guests and a tight timeline. Built a guest database in our wedding planning hub in Notion and used Lovable to generate personalised invite for our guests. Done on a Sunday afternoon with only one argument 🤪 Something useful we built for our own life using AI tools both from a non technical background. Thought I’d share 🤷♂️

Andrew McCarthy liked thisAndrew McCarthy liked this…and breathe 😮💨 My Bits & Pretzels marathon-week is coming to a close and was filled with great conversations and learnings! A few highlights: An enlightening take from Simon Morris in his CIO Summit keynote: “Sovereignty is not about the flag flying on the headquarters of your supplier, it’s about who has control of the chokepoints in your supply chain.” Identify these & mitigate accordingly. An insightful peek into AI applied in the manufacturing world with Moussab Orabi and the importance of deploying fast/integrating well and focusing on very precise use cases and workflows to unlock the most value (vs. giving access to generic AI without defined purpose) A great table conversation led by Juliane Kappel about how AI is transforming our roles, company structures & timelines, and the importance of hiring talent that displays “taste + agency” as a differentiator in a world where AI levels all capabilities. Also: the liberating power of walking meetings, and the bold idea of using digital twins as passive income sources! Finally, spending so much quality time with the Notion user community & our mighty DACH crew! 🚀 Leaving with a head full of ideas, plenty of conversations to continue, and excited about "what things will look like in 12 months' time" … Until then: Prost, Ihr Lieben! 🍻

Andrew McCarthy reacted on thisAndrew McCarthy reacted on thisLots of building last week in Amsterdam! 🛠️🚀 The highlight was meeting with several Notion customers in person and exchanging ideas around AI, workflows, and best practices. It was great to see how different teams are using Notion to bring knowledge, processes and collaboration together. A special thank you to Jimena Cancela Trelles , Louise Chevalier and Tom Heyerick for the warm welcome! 🙌 Another highlight was hosting an executive dinner with a select group of inspiring technology and product leaders. We had some great conversations about AI, how the way we work is changing, and what it takes to build more AI-native organizations. HumanX at RAI Amsterdam offered a great perspective on how quickly businesses need to adapt to an increasingly AI-native world. Excited to keep building the future of work together! 🛠️🚀

Andrew McCarthy liked thisContext is core. This integration is a game changer.Andrew McCarthy liked thisToday, Muse from Meta is launching a new set of integrations for small-business owners, including Notion! With Notion connected, Muse can pull in your to-dos, project plans, and latest thinking and help turn that context into action. Can't wait to see what you build with it.
