CATS (CATS Attack The Spam) is a custom global user group across all language versions of the Minecraft Wiki. Members of this group are trusted community members specializing in removing spam and vandalism across all language wikis. Notably, those rights can only be used to assist in the removal of spam and vandalism. This group came into effect on November 24, 2023, after internal discussions prompted by spam and vandalism occurring on some language wikis.

Some CATS members, known as check users, have the ability to check the IP address used by a logged-in user for the purpose of vandalism-fighting.

Obtaining the group

CATS

Nominations for CATS take place on the Forum.

A candidate is promoted if the community forms consensus in favor. Any community member may voice concerns about a candidate to the board in private. The board will then evaluate whether they are grounded and if so, decide to veto the candidate. Per article 15 of the Articles of Association, board members who are also CATS members cannot take part in this decision since it would constitute a conflict of interest.

Check users

Only Weird Gloop staff can grant check user rights. It is only given to CATS members who demonstrate a need for the tool and meet the conditions outlined in the global policy. CheckUser right is only granted globally.

Trivia

The group name is a reference to the fact that creepers are scared of cats in Minecraft, with vandals destroying the wikis being similar to creeper explosions.
